Steph En Route to LA?

There is a media stakeout at the Marbury home -- K-Berg is among them, so check his blog later for the details of that exciting assignment -- but before and after my flight from Phoenix to LA, it was suggested to me that Stephon might actually be on his way here to re-join the team.

The Knicks won't confirm. A team spokesman told me he hasn't been able to contact Marbury, who was quoted in The Post today as saying -- make that texting -- that he wouldn't be in LA.

As Berger wrote today, according to the collective bargaining agreement that the Knicks have the right to dock Marbury 1/110th of his salary for his absence in Phoenix, which comes out to about $180,000. It'll likely cost him another buck-eighty K if he misses tonight in LA.

Pretty soon you're talking about real money.

Stay tuned . . .

**

* - Just an update on Renaldo Balkman: his status remains uncertain -- team is calling it a "game-time decision" -- for tonight's game against the Clippers. They're calling it a sprained ankle, but it is not related to the stress reaction injury that had him out for the entire preseason. X-rays were negative, but it would be a surprise to see him on the court tonight. He left U.S. Airways arena in Phoenix on crutches.

* - Mardy Collins (sprained foot) said he expects to play tonight. Q-Rich might have to play through the hyper-extended elbow injury, just so the Knicks have enough bodies. Q said on Tuesday that he wanted to play, he just couldn't shoot.

Are you trying to set one up with that "just couldn't shoot" comment.

That's good news on Collins. Thanks Alan.

Is there anything more sorry than the old media stakeout at someone's home?
And believe me, I am not in a mood to feel sorry for Steph. Im just talking in general. Also Thinking about Joe Torre.
I know these guys are paid a rediculous amount of money and they know it comes with the territory these days but, that is one of the lowest ways a human being can behave without physically affecting someone. The definition of a parasite. Just sitting around waiting to benefit from someonelse's troubles.

I wonder if Micheal Kay will apoligise to Isiah for bashing him yesterday. he was outraged that the Knicks would give Marbury permission to leave and not tell the media about it and said if he was wrong in that assumption he would say he was sorry.

I'm confident that the fine proves he wasn't given permission and almost as confident Kay will still somehow blame it on Isiah. I think Kay is the clown who started the theory that Maybury was benched to help us forget the trial.

The Knicks play 80 games. Shouldn't he be fined 1/80 not 1/110?

30 days of practice?

emac2,

Yeah, Kay was speculating his a$$ off yesterday. Nothing the NY media likes better than a chance to wail on MSG.

He speculated that Zeke did this to distract from the trial, he speculated that he did it to distract from other players' bad play. I'm guessing he was wearing a tin foil hat and wanted to blame MSG for the Kennedy assassination, but he ran out of time.

And Isola really made hay out of his 'scoop' - he was on Stephen A.'s show, then Kay's. I didn't stick around to see if he showed up on BT's show, but I wouldn't doubt it.

I was lucky enough to have a meeting when Isola was on.

The biggest loser in a really big town

I think he was on Mike and the Mad Dog too.
Superstar!

I hope Marbury flies back to LA and then is benched for the balance of the roadtrip. And if the Knicks were smart (which they are not), they would be working on either a trade to get rid of Marbury, or a buy out.

And that is just step one.

Step two is firing Thomas.

Step three is Jim Dolan being removed by the Cablevision board from his position with MSG.

Until all three of these things happen, this fish will stink from the head down.

So you identified a stink and continue to stick your nose as close as possible.

What does that say about you?

The Knicks deserve everything that is coming to them! Isiah is a jerk, Marbury a punk, Dolan a clown!

Celtics 60-22
Knicks 23-59 again, peace.

yea, why doesnt Joe Dumars give Isiah all of his good players.....

Stephon MEbury What a real professional. Azzhole that is.

I can’t take this crap. I don’t watch soap operas for a reason. What happened to NY bball ?

Someone needs to show him that “all will NOT be well” and suspend him indefinitely away from the club so he can be “all alone”

I read an article tday ( I forget where ) saying that if Marbury is welcomed back without penalty that IT’s credibility w/ his team will disappear. I’m inclined to agree.

I dunno if I can stomach tonights game. Thank god I was at a concert and didn’t have to watch last nights drubbing. If SM wants any sort of forgiveness, he should get his pouting azz on a plane and get out to LA.

I have to say that this franchise has reached a new level of ridiculousness. How can anyone of you defend the individuals associated with all of this turmoil? Isn't the term "professional athlete"? There is truly nothing professional about any of this.
In any other setting a supervisor accused of, let alone found liable of sexual harassment would be relieved of his/her position. If an employee decides to walk out and shirk their responsibilities he/she is terminated. This is a fact please do not try to rebut this statement. It is a sorry state of affairs when individuals are not held to the same standards as others. It is time that all sports reevaluate the guaranteed contract. Only in the NFL do players have to live up to expectations.

Before you go calling others racist please understand that you truly belittle yourself making such a horrible accusation because a person may not share your point of view. This has nothing to do with race it has to do with right and wrong please keep that in mind.

Mark, although I believe you make a few solid points it is impossible to take you seriously as you insult your own intelligence by attempting to insult others.

Dubs,

I don't think anyone here is defending Marbury, because his actions are indefensible. Nobody is big enough to skate on their team at the beginning of a crucial road trip, no matter what the circumstances.

And don't take my comments about the media as a defense of Thomas, either. I just have a very short fuse with modern media, and I fully agree with the assessment of them all as parasites.

As for the racism tag - it's not about a different point of view. I'm assuming you're new here, so I'd suggest you watch what gets posted here and decide for yourself.

MARBURY JETTING BACK TO KNICKS

http://www.nypost.com/sports/knicks/knicks.htm

@doug:

110 = 82 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 7

In other words, the total number of possible games; the regular season, plus 7-game playoff series through the finals.

Pablo - that's fascinating. Is that really how they got to the 110 number? The total number of games a team can play? I've always wondered about that. Thanks.

Don ADO,

My apologies, the past few comments I have seen are truly racist.

nate4prez – You have every right to be irate. But remember the source. It's meaningless when it comes from a moron. I know it’s hard, but try to just ignore it. I’m convinced the best we can do is pretend it doesn’t exist. Immediately write about something else. As if it's not even there.

Eventually it will get tired of being ignored, and just go away. And even if it doesn’t . . . we still haven’t let it disrupt our dialogue. We just scroll past and pick up where he interrupted.

And at that point, effectively . . . he really doesn’t exist. It’s not a part of our conversation. All it’s doing is adding to Alan’s numbers without any impact at all.

Its not about difference of opinion Dubs. But if you are one who thinks "those damn NFL and NBA hip hop thugs are ruining our country" than you found yourself a buddy.

And the NFL doesnt have guaranteed contracts because thier union sucks.

Nate4prez,

Just looking for some accountability as far as contracts are concerned. Did the owners benefit from the exploitation of athletes for years, sure? However at some point things have to even out and individuals must be held accountable.

Do you have a guaranteed contract? I do not. Would you be let go if accused of sexual harassment? I would.

Regardless, this organization has been heading in the wrong direction for years. The only way to right the ship is for Dolan to give up control and leave the basketball up to those in the know.

Zeke was wrong to overreact so early in the season and be an instigator by benching Steph (an apparently Eddy). But that is his perogative. He is the HEAD COACH and he can do what he pleases with the lineup.

But Steph was beyond wrong to bail on the team because of it. I've already stated what I think he needs to do to be accepted back, and its a lot.

Alan – look at the last ‘graph of 16:24. Aren’t you appalled to have that on your blog? My impression is that “nate4prez” is a relatively new Fixer. I don’t agree with him a lot. But I’d hate to lose him because of something so outrageous. This is what we mean when we say Mark is a cancer on a blog. I know I'm breaking my own rule. I'm not ignoring at the moment. But I had to point this out.

Dubs

"Would you be let go if accused of sexual harassment? I would."

No you wouldn't.

After any appeal you might but not before.

Dubs, as u see i dont throw around the racist tag willy nilly.

I know man. The athletes have a great life. They get all the breaks.
But they were born with advantages and deserve the right to exploit them.
It causes some messed up situations where people get paid millions to do nothing but, you cant fault them for wanting to get as much money as possible.

The sexual harrassment thing, in all honesty.
I wasnt there. I dont know what happened. From what I can tell Thomas didnt try to have sex with her and didnt belittle her femininity. Just my opinion. Im just not sure why she deserves all that money.....
But you definatly have a right to be upset with his perfessional preferencial treatment.

emac2,

I misspoke. I would be suspended without pay and then after a hearing and if found liable I would be terminated. However, knowing how these things tend to play out, even if I was exonerated I would eventually be let go for an altogether unrelated reason but rest assured my days would be numbered.

Trane,
This piece of garbage keeps making our point for us.....It is now overt

Adam L,

You are right it is well within the coaches rights to bench a player without thinking the player will stomp off like a little kid. But the NBA has been a players league for a long time. Still for a player to get into a shouting match with his coach and bail on his team is a bit much. If Marbury is in LA tonight it should be something that blows over but with this team you never know. I wanted to be optimistic about this season. The team is talented as hell. But with everything we've seen I wouldn't be shocked if Marbury went through with his threats to dish on Isiah and truly make a mockery of the season. It's going to very difficult to get things back together after this fiasco. Believe me, I want to win. I just don't see how Isiah will be able to hold the team together. It would be a big story if he could. So, for your fixers our there that think Isiah should go right now, who will replace him? Herb? The season will get that much more gross real quick. haha let me know who you want. Might as well speculate.

later -- El Profeta

Didn't people want Isiah to play the best 5 and not the 5 that have highest contracts? Isiah was just trying to do his job as a coach, he did say the best people are going to play this year. If Marbury didn't overreact after hearing he wasn't going to start would we be talking about this?

I'm so disappointed in Marbury. This was an opportunity to show he can be a team player, a leader, and a professional. He completely blew it. Even if he didn't start this game, don't you think he would have a chance to reclaim his spot if he did what was asked of him?

All of this nonsense is really depressing, I just hope the players can wake up and realize what they have to do to come together as a team.

new post zach and marbury are back

new post zach and marbury are back

I'm real new to the blog. Love the Knicks talk. If someone is bothering you. Just ignore it. You don't have to read it. By discussing it you just give it merit. I say lets stick to the Knicks talk and forget the corny racist. haha

So, Alan what do you really think is going on? Or is there a limit to what you can say? Guys remember Alan has to work with these guys on the daily. I still say Isiah gave Steph a black eye. haha

El Profeta

El Profeta - Herb would be the guy, at least on an interim basis. At least that's who they've called on every time they were between 'big-name' coaches.

That's not to say that Herb would be my preference. But if Zeke was shown the door, Herb would get the gig until they found someone to bump him down a seat on the bench.

I can't think of a single coach I'd want to see here, to be honest. Back when JVG quit, I was hoping they'd approach Chuck Daly, but Chuck had already hung up his coaching shoes by that time.

I'd welcome JVG back, but he's way too smart to walk into this particular hornet's nest. He was smart to leave when he did - he saw the writing on the wall long before anyone else, IMO.

Well said Ben. Its hard to get through all the BS.

El Profeta, that is the right approach. I just saw an oppertunity to engage and expose. Now I dont think there is a question what we have here.

nate4prez -- what you say makes total sense. And I was reluctant to say anything, since it wasn't about me. Didn't want you to think I was being dismissive. Now, though . . . let's move on. Ignore, and move on . . .

Whats up Knicks fans. I think Marbury should sit and ride the bench for a few games. All the guards that we have played against have kill him from the cleveland game on. He is smart enough, he is strong enough, he is fast enough to play some defense. I think he chooses not to. The other day one of the ref blew the wisel for something he did I forget what it was. The game continue and he was looking at the ref while the guard drove by for an easy 2. If I was Isiah I would have sat him for the rest of the game and provably not start him for a while. And that would be for all the players that chooses not to play defense. Do I really miss them old knicks. Remember when the knicks use to hold teams bellow 80 points and the fans would say PiZZa. Hope it all turns out good... for all the knicks fans.

Dolan, Thomas, & Marbury = Larry, Moe, & Curly

I think Mark is really Scott Layden.
