Stress Reactions, the Carolina Blues and..Z-Bo is in Town

lee.jpgRight away I thought of David Lee when I saw the words "stress reaction" on the press release that announced Renaldo Balkman's injury. Remember, Lee's mysterious leg injury -- "days, not weeks" he was told regarding a recovery time -- was diagnosed several different ways. One of them was to term is a "stress reaction," which suggests it was a bone injury. Eventually, we learned it was a muscle injury.

Balkman's situation should be a little more definable. But to get a better understanding of what exactly they're talking about, I checked Dr. Stephen M. Pribut's Sports Pages website and what he says about stress fracture and stress reaction injuries.

[Shameless cut-and-paste]

Chronic Repetitive Stress Injuries to Bone (stress fractures and stress reactions) often result from dramatic changes in training. Training errors of a variety of types are a major contributing factor to this type of injury. The use of the word “fracture” in many cases is a misnomer. There is in most grades of this injury no actual fracture line, although in the most significant and severe cases a fracture line is visible and seen on X-ray or more readily on an MRI scan. In a large number of these injuries it is actually a stress related injury or an over stress syndrome of a particular bone. This type of injury in the absence of x-ray signs (and sometimes in the absence of a positive bone scan or MRI scan) has, some years ago termed a pre-stress fracture, then a stress reaction of bone, all of which leads to much confusion within the terminology and among clinicians and patients.

The higher grades of stress injury are similar to fatigue fractures of other materials. Bone is noted to fail more readily in tension than in compression. This means that the forces which tend to “pull” are more dangerous to bone failure and injury than compressive forces.

It is an over use injury. First described by Breithaupt in 1855. Long noticed in military recruits and called ‘march fractures” it is still a major problem today in recruits.

Thank you, Doctor.

balkmansc.jpgThe Balkman injury isn't devastating to the Knicks -- he'll miss preseason, which is never good for a young player, but he's not expected to miss a great deal of the regular season -- but it might have a greater impact on folks at Balkman's alma mater, the University of South Carolina. They were promoting his return to the 18,000-seat Colonial Center for the Knicks preseason opener against the Sixers on Oct. 8 in Columbia, S.C. "Balkman's Buddies" were expected to be out in full-force. Now, he may have to join them in the crowd and make the rounds while hobbling on that protective boot.

“The people eat that up probably more than if he were playing,” said Kim Curnutt, the university's marketing director, who did her best to spin the bad news for the event.

They already sold a great deal of tickets to the game and there is some concern that the absence of Balkman (one of the heroes from the 2006 NIT championship team) will hurt attendance. The arena almost sold out a Sixers-Spurs exhibition game from a few years ago, but had a weaker crowd for a Bobcats-Pacers game last season. The college had hoped Balkman's return would draw a big crowd. He was down there earlier this month to promote the game and drew a loud reaction from the football crowd when he was introduced at a game.

“Obviously we’re disappointed," Curnutt said, "but we have to move on and we have to sell tickets.”

zbo.jpgWe have visual confirmation from a very reliable source (sarcasm): Zach Randolph is finally in town. He's been on the court and working out with the entire roster of Knicks players who are all working out at the MSG Training Center.

We don't get a glimpse of him in blue-and-orange until Monday's media day, when the players do photo shoots. I only care about Tuesday morning, when the balls start bouncing for real.

Monday is when I put away my saws and impact drills -- kitchen is almost done, house...not so much -- and get back to typing on a regular basis. This weekend I'll put together a preview for the blog (and, likely, for the paper). On Monday I'll try to put up a blog with some loose change from the media day before I hop a flight to Charleston.

Game on, baby. You ready?

AT LEAST TAZ WILL BE READY FOR THE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON AGAINST CLEVELAND!

Thank you Alan Hahn...
Your objectivity and refusal to get into knick bashing that we all know our team deserves ALOT OF TIMES.

You give a good mix of knick bashing when they deserve it and you give them credit when they deserve it.

Your bigger named colleagues could learn the value of decency in writing from you. You have officially become the number 1 choice for true knick fans to read. We can easily tell, you don't let personal feelings get in the way of objectivity.

We know the other guys hate basketball and hopefully they get their wish someday and cover baseball, hockey or the war in iraq.

So thank you for being a basketball fan and 1 day your passion , intellect and thirst to find facts will put you at the top of your feild...YOUR LEGEND IS GROWING.

So it was written...

Nice

That sucks for Balkman's Buddies. Wish I had a trip in the area. Any of you MD boys getting out to SC for a peak? (I suck at geography so don't kill me if its dumb far) If you do get out there, don't forget your cameras. Get some movies or something of the play. I'm a fiend for some Knick action and the same 3 or 4 games on MSG's Fan Faves ain't cutting it no more, although I do like the interviews in between play.

A Toronto Newspaper's review of the teams in the Eastern Conference. The read I get from some of these previews you'd think that the people involved in the wreck that is the ABS trial would actually be playing for the Knicks this year.

Alan

2 Posts in 1 day......You must have Knick fever. I think it's going around.

ALOTS GOIN' ON I UNDERSTAND BUT NOBODY ANSWERED MY QUESTION SO IM POSTING IN CAPS....GET BACK TO ME FIXERS.

I've got a question for all of the Fixers cuz u guys are some of the most knowledgable cats I've run across when it cames to BBall. I've heard many times that LBJ has an incentive through NIKE to play in NY. Does this also apply to other players under the NIKE umbrella that play in smaller markets ?

What ya'll fenna ("fixing to" depending on where ya from) read here is not for the regular mind. It's for that NY state of mind--the one that questions 911 and all those NYC employees going away for fraud/economic type crimes. Peaceman, HOZ, Willis, BARF, MDs--ya'll know what's good.

Balkman's injury means that IT et al. have determined that he's RTG for the season and WILL NOT include him in any deal. He's burning w/ our side 4 sure. It could have been plantar fasciitis but that injury is reserved for "Snacks". So now if Sac or Suns wanna get down, they can talk about the other cats because no player has ever been traded with a published/ known/declared injury.

JohnQ--It was me who pointed out the trade kicker LBJ has with Nike. Kobe had it too before the Colorado "set-out" (back door forced entry). The kicker says that if the player goes to a market like NY, Chicago, LA, then the shoe company throws in $100 million. It explains why LBJ could come to NY when he's up even if we're over the cap. The difference would be paid (tacitly) by Nike. Drunk Dude Peter Vexation leaked that scenario and it had the lil' general fuming (at lil' Anthony, and the rest of the NY media for blabermouthing). That's why I often suggest Fixers keep their intel on da DL until it is done. Not sure if there are other players with those kickers. I would imagine that Agent 0 is covetous of this kicker.

By my comment, I'm not pining for LBJ or covet OTPs; I'm just bloggin'.

Sure we will miss out on the chemistry that will evolve between Balk and the rest of the fellows. The unknowns right now are: James, N8 @ 1; Q's back; Lee/Crawford recovery; DNice vs. Houston resolution. With plantar, stress, bunions, turf toe, etc. the NYK will be able to manage the roster w/o having to do any precipitous move/trade ransoming the future of the empire IT is building in NYC.

KFL

2 entries in one day, I love it.

The Balkman injury scares me; I haven't had faith in the Knicks medical staff going back to Dr. Scott and B. King. (Gee, BK didn't have any game left in him after the injury, did he?).

Maybe Alan will have something to report on Allan (Houston). While durability will be an issue, I would welcome 15-20 minutes of sharp shooting, to help discourage the double team.

I am so looking forward to some action ON the court, as opposed to IN court. Got to focus on the positive.

Morning all:

Here's a little follow up from the local press on the Rolando Balkman injury.

Also, rumor has it, yet again, that as a result of the Balkman injury H20 might be appearing at Knicks practice. Whether you believe that might depend on Spermy Bermy's credibility.

Nice Day fellas

Tim Hardaway learns the hard way that teasing gays can weigh you down hard.

Marion's not expected to go anywhere.

@ BARF..

"Just a stress related injury. Nothing to jump off a bridge about.."

Okayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy......

Now there's talk of possible ligament damage....that he may be out the first two weeks of the season.

Damn!

My point here is that it's ALWAYS worse then initially reported with regards to injuries with the Knicks.

Knowing how hard he goes, you would think they would MAKE him shut it down for awhile...shyt, put him in a straight jacket if need be for Chrisake...lol.

Let's just hope things don't get any worse. I'm not very optimistic.

Bronxboy:
Correction. Rondo is a true point. That's the only position he's ever palyed. The only knock on him is his shooting. As pure a point as they come.

This article asks if Marion is under-rated because he's paid more than anyone else on the team.

I hear you. But like DLee, this is the type of injury you expect from Balkman. I prefer these types of injuries (because ARE going to happen) over anything involving backs or knees.

You almost expect him to get injured because you know how hard he brings it every second of the game. The one worry I have is that he doesn't get discouraged or depressed and let that negative energy ruin the psyche that makes him play like a madman.

But I doubt that will happen. He looks like a strong dude and someone who knows what they are all about as a young player in the league.

Put him on a month-long upper body strength training program so that he can push people around and absorb more punishment next season. Keep him off his feet and do not bring him back too early like they did with DLee.

Bronxboy
You would be right if it were last year. Considering the flack the Knicks Medical staff took last year, I believe they are being Over protective with Taz. I don't believe his injury is close to what Crawfoed/Lees were! It's good to see them over react then what they did last year! Balkman will be fine.

African:

He may be a pg, but I think we agree to disagree on him being "as pure as they come".

They'll need more than him at that position if they have any serious thoughts of competing.

Thx for the response Steady.
If that is an incentive for all NIKE athletes, why don't more of them try to steer their way to the major markets ? (Mello, LBJ, Wade, etc,). I know nobody really has an answer to that one, I'm just thinking aloud.

Jared Jordan of the Clippers may be ,a href="http://www.latimes.com/sports/basketball/nba/clippers/la-sp-clippers27sep27,1,2923058.story?track=rss">had for free if he does not survive training camp. Stranger things have happened.

Here's a couple of words with the early R.O.Y. favorite, Kevin Durant. He's got that young Chris Webber look to him. My girl just loved CW's smile.

Balkman's her favorite Knick. That's why I love her so. Says he got sleepy ganja eyes when he's called off the bench. Like he just done with one. Ha

Very nice and redemptive article on Tim. Thanks BARF.

Also sweet were those BARDS by BARF and Post-up Prince. Very creative guys. Nice rhythm and poetic structure.

I wish that I could give you a strong prediction on what the jury will decide today, but I can't without knowing what the jury charge was and a bit more about the testimony.

Based on the variety of reports, I would suggest that Browne loses all they way around based on the evidence which leans heavily in favor of Dolan and Thomas. Still the evidence is one thing, what the jury sees in terms of demeanor and assumes regarding veracity is another.

I suggest based on the limited info that the jury makes a connection between Anucha bringing people into her office to discuss the investigation; her attempts to force others to support her case and testimony about her own foulness and arrogance makes her seem like one of the guys and not a nice person and a good reason for DOlan ot fire her, even without using commonsense and going through his attorneys and some form of disciplinary steps.

If I were on the jury I would not like how she treated the intern. I would also think that her failure to document Thomas' curses except to tell her sister would not create a "preponderance of the evidence" situation.

Based on that alone, I would expect MSG to be found not liable and for all parties to issue a short statement and move on like Bill Bellichek, the cheater, did.

Then get to the playoffs and all would be forgotten by the fans, if not the media.

We'll see.

Balkman now gets time for shooting drills - just sit him in a chair at angles around the court so his follow through and arc have to be perfect, and let the hoof rest.

Jeffries get's a little breathing room to prove himself and reap the rewards of his hard work over the summer

I just read the following article. If it is accurate regarding the only way Dolan coud have known about the tampering, then the retaliation claim may have some legs. However, if the jury believes he knew about all that Anucha did before he fired her, forget about it.

Closing Arguments

Wow, has anyone visited the blogs that all the fixers originally came from ? I was just lookin' at Bermans blog and a tumbleweed blew through. It's a friggin ghost town man. I guess thats what you get for not being objective and disappearing for extended periods of time.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all the Fixers (too many to list) and of course our gracious host Alan Hahn for this summer. I usually spend the off season scouring the net for any little snippets of news. You guys are a godsend. Glad to find people as fanatical as I am. You all make this blog the best on the net. Once again TY all.

I concur with JohnQ

My sentiments exaclty JohnQ. With the season just around the corner, thanks to you all for making this off season fly by.

I don't follow any other sports like I do basketball so this is it for me. Gracias much.

DITTO on the previous 2 posts.

Lives:
I read that. I believe the jury would toss the sexual harassment, but give ABS some money. Maybe $125,00 half a year's pay to go find another job.
You know they didn't present a strong case when you read some of the writers that believed Anucha even before the defense presented their case. They're backthreading speaking of the menbers of the jury being not sophisticated enough to see what the defense is trying to do.
Dolan is not too bright, but he has balls. I love him for that.
Bronxboy:
Did you see him at KY? He's going to suprise a lot of you guys this year.
You said he's not a true point. If you're talking true points, he's more of a true point than Steph.
Of course he needs a back-up like anyone else, but Rondo is pretty good.

Can somebody please splain to me how Balkman being out implies that the Knicks would sign Houston? Knicks lose a young athletic defender rebounder above the rim fast break finisher for a negligable period of time and naturally the player you need to replace what he does is an arthritic, non-defending, old, jumpshooter?

errrrrrrrrr, huh?

Yeah, I don't understand the logic there either Willis. Probably cuz there is none.

African,

Yeah, I followed him at Kentucky. He's got a nice game..good handles, cat-quick, good insticts. He actually became a better pro than I thought he'd be....but he's not experienced nor crafty enough to steer that 8 cylinder, 450 hp engine the Celts currently possess.

I'd rather have steph. So would Boston.

BXBoy:
Don't know if Boston would prefer Steph. Not hating on Steph, but with that team, Rondo is better for them. He's a pass first point.
Steph's biggest problem is the entry pass. He kills the shot clock trying to make that entry pass. Look at the way a true point like Mark Jackson makes it easy. That's Rondo. The kid is nice.
One love.

African,

I noticed the same thing about Stephs inability (or reluctance) to make the post pass. It seems as if it's a struggle for him sometimes.

True, a pure pg makes that pass seem simple.

Instincts.....Rondo does possess those.

Lives – your follow-up beat me to it. Totally agree on the intern. (Although I would LOVE to know what kind of deal she might have cut for herself in a back room before testifying.) And I can certainly see the harassment suit getting thrown out. But her getting fired is another matter. Too many holes in the defense, it seems to me . . . starting with Mills and all those glowing job performance reports. Tampering? Could scuttle her case, we’ll have to see. I don’t think it will.

I actually respect the support Dolan’s shown for “his team.” Problem is, he should have taken one of the lawyers out to lunch first. He probably could have done a better job of it.

Let me throw out a thought here, especially in light of the stress injuries our young guys are getting:

The NBA season is too damn long! Too many games, too many teams in the playoffs, too many playoff games (7 game 1st round series??????) Too many Teams!!! We are chewing these young men up and diluting the talent and rapidly approaching NFL style attrition (OK, exagerrating a little bit, but there does seem to be a trend) Now there is a statistical study that would really be useful:

1. Number of games lost to injury per year over the years the NBA has been in operation.
2. Number of players per year, who lost time due to injury (methodological question: 1 game loss? 2-4 game loss?)
3. Types of injury and frequency.

This must have been done - is anyone aware of a study along these lines? Is there really a trend or does it just seem that way? Does the NBA keep track? Teams? Interesting question. Perhaps difficult to find the stats

Hey Alan, dust off that PhD in epidemiology and dig in!

I'm watching the fan faves last night and I caught it at the end of the Dencver game. I realized why I really love Clyde (besides the rings). Crawford had just hit a 3 w/ 3.7 left on the clock. Denver takes the ball out fom the corner and Clyde is discussing how they should foul as soon as the Nuggets touch the ball. So the ball gets passed in and Clyde falls out of the objective announcers seat and screams "FOUL!!!!". After all these years, you can see he's still a Knick and he sometimes forgets he's an announcer. Only a true fan would have trouble seperating the 2. You gotta love him for that.

Willis

You make a good point, would'nt I't make more sense to restart the ron artest talk rahter than the H20? What do you guys think?

Willis,

I do not believe using the Knicks or their players would support your argument. Lee,Balkman,Crawford, Step, & others have not played any additional games,(no playoffs). I believe the injuries are due to the players being better conditioned. The weight(muscle) being put on their joints causes stress and stress related injuries.

Regarding the trial: It is very tough to call, unless you were in the courtroom everyday. Something that appears insignificant to most, may resonate w/ the jury or a juror. The posture of the defendent or the victim's posture could have an effect. The one thing that is certain, is that reporters and newspapers bring their own bias to coverage of trials. The great suburban newspaper resembles the Daily News. The News will give you Isola,Lupica,Lawrence(ill), and Newsday will match it w/ Matthews, Poweel, & Howard. Their coverage was similar. If the Brown-Sanders team had a bad day, both papers attacked Isiah character and MSG'S environment. I defy any of you to find an article that was critical of ABS. If ABS-team had a good day or made a sensational statement, then it was covered as if it was true. Objec ti vity does not sell newpapers, (I won't even refer to AH's thread). Is the print media still trying to figure out why fewer people are buying their newspapers

Please let me clarify. I am not looking for the press to cheerlead for the Knicks,(I am no Starbury fan). I just want balance!!!!!!!

Peace & Blessings

Knicksome

Welcome. I think most of us here would prefer Artest in some form or fashion. Balk WILL be back in nov/dec. The problem is, who do we trade to get him? They want Lee or Balk. They may have second thoughts on Balk now. We have tried other packages with JJeferies, but they did not go for it.

D L T

Thanks for the reply dude, the ron artest will happen, he'll be a free agent soon and the kings wouldnt want to loose him for nothing.....i just dont know how we can fit H20 & ron and also keep D nichols.

Go knicks!

Knicksome

We will have to package 2-4 players in an Artest deal.probably the players with expiring contracts(Rose,FJones,Dickau) and someone like Nate(who they like) and Balk/Lee/JJ.If we do a with 4 players deal; then we would have a spot for AH20.

Note the language the Knicks doctors use to cover their own ass, "Balkman will be out AT LEAST four weeks," its not the "days, not weeks" rhetoric of last season. Some times I think sports medicine is as reliable as predicting the weather more than one week in advance, but maybe that's just me.

STATESMAN,

thanks for the free advertising. now that you mention it, nearly all of starburyfan's knick-related thoughts and opinions have been chronicled at

http://knicksdefense.com/

for your blogging enjoyment.

LGK!

I actually heard a sports radio station announce that H20 was signed to a gauranteed contract by the Knicks. I really don't find that report credible.

yo O&B

berman is saying he heard the same thing from rod thorn:

http://www.nypost.com/seven/09282007/sports/knicks/hey__hou__knicks_need_balkman_.htm

can't hurt to have more shooters, but I'd much rather they defend (Nichols) than not (H20)

O&B

I read it here too

Starburyfan:

"can't hurt to have more shooters, but I'd much rather they defend (Nichols) than not (H20)"

I wholly agree on that take. D-Nicks got youth, and is a long term prospect with an upside. H20's jumper is sweet but why commit so much to a player with a very limited shelf life along with questions regarding whether his recovery will allow him to be effective on the court.

Also heard of the airwaves taht the jury asked for 100 pages of documents and transcripts of witness testimony and in additiona emails from ABS regarding her claims of Sexual Harrassment.

Fixers and LNJLNY any ops here?

DLT:

So now it's three sources pointing to H20 signing with the Knicks. I really hope this H20 isn't a knee jerk reaction. No pun intended LMAO!

Whoever recommended Lupica's article is a blowhard. Thanks for nothing. I just wasted my time reading it and all it said was the same stuff that every newspaper in the country is reporting. All the people who are not Knick fans and have but a casual interest for the Knicks reported the same stuff. If you believe Isiah did not harass her and is not responsible for the hideousness that permeates the Garden, you're wrong. If you believe a woman who's already accused someone else of sexual harassment while working for IBM and has cheated on her taxes years in a row (unknowingly?), you're right.

Its the same stuff from last year. Scapegoat IT as the reason the Knicks suck. Real simple. Except of course, Lupica used prettier language...because of course, he's right.

DN's the paper for the casual fan.

NYP's the paper for the soap-opera drama hungry fan.

But Newsday for the Knicks' Fixer in You. We're not a part of the problem, but of the solution. We're Fixers.

:P

And to the person who recommended that article, poo on you.

O&B

I like AH20(no homo), he would be a real "feel good" story that would help our bad rep at this time. BUT, I am not in favor of bring him back.I don't think he can help. He will not be able to defend anyone( his "d" was bad 10 years younger)and we need better defense now.The knicks' rep needs AH, the Knicks' team does not.
If he can shoot at 90% and we fall back into a zone...maybe.With EC and Zach NOT being shot blockers,we can afford to have AH let someone dance pass him into the paint for a layup.

Berman must be on Strickland's payroll

Guaranteed money to Houston?

Mistake #1 for 2007.

Send his ass and knees to Europe and tell him its a "feeler" position. He can be the "Knicks Ambassador" for NBA basketball. And, of course, remind him that over there he'll be the star he was never able to be here.

Where's Sarge when you need him?

So if we offered a guaranteed contract to Houston, does that mean that it's a lock he will make the team?

Nah, its not a done deal. Its being reported here that Rod Thorn of the Nets believes the Knicks have offered AH20 guaranteed.

Just something Thorn said. Not exactly true. Yet.

If we know anything about this situation, it is that

A) dolan's got money to burn, literally

B) dolan likes H20 (don't know if I should still call him that unless Jeffries gives it up for some of that $100 million)

I don't think Isiah likes H20, if for any reason, simply because Isiah inherited H20--if Isiah is going to win, he'd much rather it be with the team he built from the ground up, so that we know where to give credit when credit is due.

Dolan probably just wants to give Houston another chance. He wouldn't care if he lost money over it. But the big question is, would Dolan over-ride/veto if Isiah tries to cut Houston at the end of training camp, just because he likes Houston? In my opinion, history has shown that Dolan is not necessarily a hands-off type owner.

DNM

willing to give Houston guaranteed money to report to training camp. No contract has been signed.......so the post says, is that the same thing as offering a guaranteed contract? can someone explain.

Even if Dolan loves Houston, does it necessary mean he will see daylight under Isiah? If Houston is going to be coming off the bench, how does he exactly fit the rest of our 2nd unit? There's no way he can keep up with Nate, Balk, Lee or any of the other young guys.

Not that I'm supporting this, but it would probably make more sense to me if Houston started with Curry and Zach. At least that way the pace would be slow and he would just have to hit stand still jumpers. Him on the 2nd unit would be ridiculous.

@DNM

Do you think AH20 can guard R.Allen,Pierce,Wade,Kobe or any other 2?........NOT gonna happen.

Here's some real Houston news that actually matters(even if A.Houston plays for the Knicks, it won't matter).

Adelman makes it sound like Houston is the spot.

I tend to believe him.

I dont know if you guys have read this yet, but its so stupid you got to put this kid on blast. Shawn Williams of the Indiana Pacers didn't show to court. Story here. Maybe it something in the water in Indiana.

Well, they said they found pot in his car. Maybe he just forgot?

OK, I'll take the bait.

sorry Anonymous, don't give a rat's ass about the rockets or Rick Adleman. Perhaps you'd find more enthusiasm on a rockets blog?

Good luck with Tmac's back btw.

lol

Friday Bullets on ESPN

thought it was amusing

All those of you who think LeBron James is destined to one day leave Cleveland for New York will be interested to note that he has said that if the Cleveland Indians face the New York Yankees in the playoffs, James will be rooting for the Yankees. Also, James is in New York all week preparing to host Saturday Night Live.

DLT, you're right. I was just thinking about the offensive side. I tend to do that while I'm on the court as well lol.

starburyfan

It was me man. I didn't realize I hadn't filled out the other fields.

Didn't T-Mac have the same back operation done that Q-Rich had this offseason? So if you are sh!tting on T-Mac's back...you're sh!tting on Q's too.

I don't like the Alan Houston news. It's depressing. I thought we were done with him. Here's to looking forward and leaving old-rickety players behind.

A decent review of our beloved team on an opposing teams website! What's going here?

http://www.nba.com/nets/news/AllAccess_Online_Atlantic_Division_Preview.html?rss=true

Knicksome

I don't see LBJ ever coming here.He is from Ohio, close to Cleveland, makes the max.$$$ and his team just went to the finals. What can NY offer other then the BIG STAGE OF NY.He maybe using NY to push the Cavs keeping the big $$$ coming.

O&B

Thanks for that,someone gave us a chance....I think I'm going to cry.lol

my bad barf. thought it was a rockets fan talking smack on the knicks.

i actually did mean good luck with tmac's back. he's had chronic back problems that have limited his production in orlando and houston. when healthy, tmac and q are effective, when the back starts to hurt, well, you know...

o&b

good find. a favorable review? NO. I see it, and still dont believe it. you should find out who wrote it and try to get that person a job at the DN or Post.

starburyfan
funny how qrich played well last year even with the bad back. the problem was, he couldnt stay out on the floor for a long time. then after a good game or two, he'd mysteriously be off the roster for two or three more. i really do hope his back is back to normal. we havent seen him healthy in ny yet. wonder what thats like.

cleveland needs to do something about varejao. they cant stand to lose him for nothing come next summer. they need to find a team to take gooden and package z along with him. maybe like a jermaine o'neal or something. bird needs to do something with those pacers. troy murphy and mike dunleavy??? i still cant believe mullin pulled that deal off. a year later and you got to scratch your head wondering what bird was thinking.

stephen jackson may have been a bad influence in the lockerroom but with him on the floor, you win games. troy and mike dunleavy? what do they contribute exactly? good-guy-ness? that's not a stat-line?

NO WORD ON THE VERDICT?

Turns out that Lebron ("The Brown" for the francophone), has been a Yankee fan all along.

http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/sports/1190976083213400.xml&coll=2

"Q: You congratulated the Indians for making the playoffs during the NBC conference call, but who wins a playoff between Indians and Yankees?

A: The Yankees. I know a lot of people might not like hearing me say that, but I think everyone knows I've been a Yankee fan my whole life. They have to deal with it."

Sorry DLT and BARF, I didn't mean to get you guys so excited. I too was starting to see the world through and Orange and Blue pair of rosey colored glasses. But to get me back down to earth I run into hateraid like the following.

http://nbahoopsonline.com/Articles/2007-08/previeweast.html

BARF:

I believe that the jury sought documents relating to the testimony given at trial and during depositions. Additionally they sought copies of the emails sent to and from ABS to other parties involved in the trial. In short it appears that no verdict will be reached today.

Yet another weekend of ABS styled tabloid bs.

"Projected Finish: 4th Atlantic 29-53"

that hurts!

worse than last year? how do they explain that? is it because of KG's relocation or something?

marcus williams broke his foot. don't know the severity of it but it doesn't sound good that something is broken.

yo--we haven't even started balling yet, something is wrong with the NBA. these injuries are an epidemic over the last two years.

well, the nets were one of the teams the experts are predicting finishing above us, so anything bad for them I consider good for NYK. they like this kid williams so much they were shopping J Kidd around at points during the season...

You guys think they asked for the testimony to let the sleeping juror catch up ? hahahahaha

Starburyfan:

Remember when we showed up to play the Bulls in 91-92 season to make their title defense a little rockier than expected.

What were those magical words that beckoned self respect that came from Ewings mouth?

"Give us some credit!"

"Give us some credit!"

When we turn heads this season, I'll think of that phrase.

Besides the theme song for most sportswriters should be "If I only had a Brain" from the Wizard of Oz.

Personally the should all become courtesans on the former HBO hit TV show Oz.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Marcus Williams News (of the Nets)=out 6-8 weeks.

By the way, the dude from the blog looks worse than Bermy. Dude got the 5 0'clock scruff and the half-puff afro, male-pattern style. LMAO. Alan, do any of these writer dudes get girls? HAHAHA

In case you guys didn't know, there's another Marcus Williams (from the Spurs). A wing-man or whatever supposed to be the next Manu if you believe this guy.

what I like about a healthy Q is his ability to follow his shot. the first half of last season, he was one of the best players the knicks had offensively and defensively, and if he missed, he went right in there and followed it up with a put back (good fundamentals, some guys start running the other way when they put up that first attempt).

but I agree we haven't seen everything from Q, because he has a POST GAME reputation from his Clippers days. not that we need any guys on the post but I do think a healthy Q would simplify our starting lineup questions.

looks like rain in the NYC tonight. at least I just heard some thunder outside...

have a good weekend fellas

Yo O&B

Thanks for the update. What the hell do they want with 100 pages of testimony and emails. don't they know we want this over and done with. haha

as if we matter, sheesh

BARF-

speaking of pimps, I coined a term on the other blog for the ugliest dude in the media: mitch "the grill" lawerance. some of the guys on KK were using it for a while, I know peaceman used it. cracked me up everytime this guy wrote more haterade, we'd fire back on KK.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/knicks/2007/09/12/2007-09-12_browne_sanders_gives_graphic_testimony_a.html

he's got a face for radio, or the printed word, as it were.

I remember that convo starburyfan. mitch aka the grill aka geico aka golom. its a classic KK convo i think. the guy looks like he's perpetually frightened, laughing and surprised AT THE SAME TIME.

a face only a mother could love

@ Starburyfan...

"speaking of pimps"...LMAO...

I've seen better lookin' grills on 57' Buicks....

Mr. Lawrence is definitely hard on the eyes....and his hate for the Knicks is even uglier.

I think we're gonna give him something to really hate about this season. I can feel it.

LMAO @ BARF...

"the guy looks like he's perpetually frightened, laughing and surprised AT THE SAME TIME."

We differ a little...he always appeared to me to be smiling and CRYING at the same time...CTFU....

Even his moms had to take exception to that mug....whew...lol

Fixers:

May be that the snoring at the boring trial juror may be the defenses meal ticket. Well that is according to the following article.

Also here is the story recapping today's deliberations.

That Mitch Lawrance guy reminds me of the wierd looking person from the goonies. Except Lawrence has a head of hair. Please don't compare him to the Geico Gecco, according to my nieces they think the green guys somewhat cute.

Have an excellent weekend.

This Taz injury thing is bummin' me out.

Like a lot of you, I do not trust the NYK medical staff. They couldn't treat their kids to Baskin-Robbins as far as I'm concerned.

Heal up quick, Taz.

This is our game plan! Come put the Box hard! Take no prisoners and don't agree with the Genevia convention, it has nothing to do with the NBA. Stomp on the heads of every team regardless of who's playing and who's hurt! Every team has slapped your Mother and we should play like that! No let up for any one! We should play the Bobcats equal to Jersey, no break for anybody! Fu#king roll over any and all in our path! That is the TUDE WE HAVE TO BRING NIGHT IN AND NIGHT OUT! We have the squad, talent and team! Lets go kick some ass!
