On the Mets beat

Hey everyone! Katie Strang here to blog for the day-night double-header. We'll split up the blogs between games to give you guys some time to catch up on NFL Sunday though :) Some good pitching matchups today....Pedro Martinez (5-3, 5.07) is on the mound for the Mets today...he'll face Jamie Moyer (12-7, 3.80). Cole Hamels v. Johan Santana tonight.

Three up, three down as Pedro retires the Phillies in order.

Bottom 1st
Moyer works a 1-2-3 of his own.

Top 2nd
Striekout king Rya Howard leads off the second by going down swinging. Pedro walks Werth, and Dobbs doubles over Tatis' head to put two in scoring position. Werth scores on Stairs' sac fly, and the Phillies are on the board first. Ruiz' line drive single scores Dobbs for another run, giving the Phillies a 2-run lead.

Tatis works a two-out walk, but Easley grounds out to end the inning.

Top 3rd
Pedro shakes that last one off and responds with a 1-2-3 inning.

Bottom 3rd
Cancel singles on a bunt. Two outs, and Cancel on second, and Moyer walks Evans. Wright flies out with RISP.

Top 4th
Howard leads off with a line drive double to center. Werth follows up with a bloop single to put runners at the corners. Greg Dobbs, who's been a thorn in the Mets' side lately blasts a three-run homer to center to give the Phillies a five-run advantage. Pedro's struggles some more as he's hit for a ground-rule double down the rightfiels line by Ruiz. . Jimmy Rollins then drops one in between Reyes and Evan in shallow left to score Ruiz and go up 6. Not sure if that was sun or miscommunication, but either way it was ugly.

Aided by a couple nice defensive plays, Moyer pitches another 1-2-3 inning. Very good day for him so far.

Brandon Knight in now to pitch, and he retires the Phillies in order.

Bottom 5th
Moyer gives up a walk to Cancel, but he's still dominating. Only one hit through 5 innings.

Top 6th
Schoeneweis replaces Knight and retires the Phillies in order.

Bottom 6th
1-2-3 for Moyer.

Top 7th
Heilman in to pitch and he leads off with a walk to Moyer. Two outs and Shane Victorino singles prompting Manuel to pull Heilman in favor of Feliciano. Two on and two outs, and Feliciano gets out of the inning by fanning, who else, Ryan Howard.

Bottom 7th
Easley hits a two-out single to keep the inning alive, but to no avail. Mets still scoreless through 7.

Top 8th
Nelson Figueroa in to pitch the eighth, and the Phillies go down in order. Give it to the bullpen at least for a solid effort.

Bottom 8th
A. Reyes strikes out swinging. Two outs, and Evans doubles off the wall at center. Wright follow suit, doubling down the left field to prevent the Mets from getting shut out. Beltran then triples, scoring Wright and igniting the crowd. Delgado goes down swinging to end the inning.

Top 9th
Ruiz lines one to left for a leadoff single off Duaner Sanchez, but Sanchez retires the next three to leave Ruiz on base.

Bottom 9th
One-out single for Easley as Feliz bobbles the catch, but a double play ends game one.
