highfive.jpgSo you'll have to settle for glowing commentary about the surging Mets, who sneaked past the Braves last night, 5-4, for a sweep of Atlanta. Lucky? Sure. It's not every day that a leftfielder loses a fly ball in the lights -- with the winning run in scoring position. But hey, after what happened to the Mets a year ago, maybe they do have a few breaks coming their way.

And speaking of luck, David Wright caught a major break because he was waaaay too far off second base when that ball was headed for Omar Infante's glove. If that's caught, which it is 99 percent of the time, Wright is doubled off second easily. But no sense worrying about that now.

How about Carlos Delgado? Team leader, clutch hitter, practically the smiling face of the first-place Mets. It's been a dramatic turnaround for him. Last September, with the Mets in a freefall, I remember getting on Delgado because he was practically invisible in the clubhouse during the final weeks, leaving Wright to shoulder the media responsibilities, every day, pretty much by himself. Now Delgado is being praised as one of the more vocal leaders on this team -- and performing -- so it's all good.

Anyway, my colleague Mark Herrmann dares to say this could be the Mets' year, and why not? Tom Seaver is not going to shed any tears over the demolition of Shea -- who is, really? -- and this week's Mets Insider talks about the dynamic duo of Daniel Murphy and Nick Evans. Also, let's not forget about the return of Ryan Church, who will be eased back into the starting lineup on a limited basis.

David, Do we know who will be sent down tonight for church? I would assume Cancel but if you could clarify that would be great.

Hey Vin .. They haven't announced anything, but it's a safe bet that Cancel will be sent down. He's the only expendable piece, really, as the third catcher.

Hey Dave any word on what the Mets will do with Mike Carp at the end of the season? They have to add him to the 40 man roster or he will be eligible for group 5 rule draft. I know him, Murphy, Evans and even Caleb Stewart were tearing it up in B land. And what about Stewart? I konw he hit only .222 or something like that in NO, but would rather have young guys there then recylcled players in the OF.
