Castillo to be activated

Jerry Manuel just announced that Luis Castillo will be activated tomorrow and will get his second base job back.

Candidates to go down: Argenis Reyes, Nick Evans, Brian Stokes. With Ryan Church back, Fernando Tatis could eat up Evans' at-bats.

Manuel called it "kind of touchy and dicey."

Mets fans can't be happy Castillo is getting his job back. But the Mets have 25 million reasons to see him do well.

Mike, can you please clarify. What does "will get second base job yet" mean.

Its like a combo of "will get the second base job back" and "will not get the second base job yet"...which of course are the two opposite ends of the spectrum and evoke very different emotions.

Which one is it? And is the Evans comment your personal interpretation, or what Jerry said?

Why is nobody upset about the constant lies than we keep getting from Manuel. First it was set roles for the bullpen, then it was Kunz who was gonna get the job when others struggled in the closer's role, and most recently it was that Castillo will have to fight for playing time when he returns. I do not believe anything this guy says because he never holds true to his word. Why mess up the momentum and camaraderie that this team has built without Castillo? These young guys are the reason that the team is fighting for the post season, and if they aren't on the roster on 8/31, they are ineligible for it. What a joke that would be.

you do realize that jerry isn't the one in charge of the roster, right?

it's hard to have set bullpen roles when everyone sucks.

in short, stop whining.

Well like I said, still waiting for the owners to wake up and realize that Minaya and his staff are still a problem for this team.

FOUR YEARS for Castillo.....what a joke....

And Manual only does what his boss tells him...you can't blame Jerry b/c he has a fool for a boss.

Who is whining big baby? I am simply stating a fact that the things that Manuel has said haven't happened and it was a choice of his. He may not have control of who is on the roster, but he DOES have control of who is on the field. He is the one who fills out the lineup card every night and he is the one that makes the pitching changes.

If Castillo doesn't hit he better be benched! A. Reyes has been a spark plug. Cut your losses Omar, Luis can barely walk.

Oh shut up people. It was a joint decision by all parties involved. Yes of course his contract has something to do with it but were ANY OF YOU at his private personal workout today. I know I wasn't. Kind of the definition of private. He must have shown them that he is healthy and ready or he wouldn't be playing. Reyes will get sent down but only until the rosters expand. You know this is a win win situation for the Castillo haters and the Mets. 2 things are going to happen. 1) He plays, does well, solidifies that 2 hole in the line up and along with Reyes sets the table for the big guys behind him or,
2) He tanks plays again, stinks up the joint, and since A. Reyes has already been called up he is eligible for the post season roster so they can call him back up and then place Luis on the DL again and you'll never see him this year again. Its August 22. He has 9 days to show he is healthy and ready to contribute or he is back to St. Lucie for extended spring training. Its only fair he gets the chance. He is a better player than A. Reyes at the plate. Lets see what the man's got left.

Who cares if Castillo is " healthy and ready" he is completely useless even when healthy. Did I have to be at his workout to know he can not hit and can not field. He is useless....NO USELESS!!!! It is no coincidence when he took over at second last year almost to the day the Mets began the biggest collapse in major league history. Who cares about the $25 million, yes it was a collassal mistake to sign him to that kind of money. It's an even bigger and more costly mistake to play this inept secoond basemen because of his salary!!

Cut Castillo loose....or trade him for a ferret to be named later.

Castillo is the $25 million automatic out. If playing Castillo cost us even one game which heurely will, that will cost the Mets
much more than $25 million when they miss the playoffs by one game. If the Mets had Easley or Argenis Reyes at second during the great collapse it would have never taken place. Castillo's non-existant bat and mediocre glove more than contributed to the Mets
collapse. His lackadasical play also sucked the life out of this team!!

I don't like Castillo but you guys are vastly overrating A. Reyes and Easley. Easley has really come back down to earth lately. And A. Reyes has still only had very limited experience. As far as their bats, they're all hitting in the .260s and Castillo is around a .300 career hitter. A. Reyes may be the best fielder of the three but I think Castillo will come back playing better since he doesn't have a solid hold on the position anymore. I say let Castillo get some games in and see how it goes. I'd prefer to have Easley as more of a bench/occasional fill in player for multiple positions and have A. Reyes back up Castillo at 2nd.

He is a .260 slap hitter with absolutely no pop. He is in the middle of every fizzled rally usually with a weak popout to short.
His defense is barely adequate. Easley and Reyes are both have extra base power and are a lot more exciting to watch. I reiterate
if Easley wasn't injured last year and finished the season at second the Mets make the playoffs easy. Castillo killed the Mets last year and someone mentioned the 1 - 2 punch of Catillo and Jose Reyes. What a joke that is. Reyes was never less effective than last August and September with Castillo hitting behind him and certainly Castillo offered no punch. Their was nothing exciting at all about the Mets 1-2 slot with Castillo occupying space in the 2 slot. Reyes has come back to life since Castillo has been injured. The Mets have to wake up and cut their losses!!
