On the Mets beat

The Orioles' spring training facility here in Fort Lauderdale is old school. Not just because it's a decrepit structure with peeling paint, faded plastic seats and weathered aluminum bleachers in the outfield. When I strolled in a few minutes ago, the sound guy here was cranking tunes from Led Zeppelin IV that blared throughout the empty stadium. You just don't hear "Misty Mountain Hop" and "Stairway to Heaven" at ballparks anymore. Thankfully, no more "Who Let the Dogs Out" either, so we'll call it a push.

The Mets plan to make their final roster decisions after tomorrow's Civil Rights Game in Memphis, but we should find out what happens to Ruben Gotay, Steven Register and yes, maybe the fifth starter's spot, by the end of today.With that showdown now less than two hours away, maybe the Mets should heed the words of the immortal Robert Plant:

"Yes there are two paths you can go by
but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on."

So long for another year, Port St. Lucie.
