Not that the Mets needed any additional motivation today, but some covert operative deployed more fighting words in the runway leading to the home dugout. Saturday's framed picture was there, too, but this one had more inflammatory bulletin-board material from Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez with a photo from yesterday's benches-clearing incident.
"I don't care if it's broke I'm going to play tomorrow," Ramirez is quoted as saying about his hand. "---- everybody on the Mets. We're going to kick their -----."
Right below, in bold letters, the sign reads, "It's never a good idea to wake a sleeping mutt. Someone Pays Today."
Stay tuned. First pitch at 1:05.
Just in case, Pedro Martinez gave Jose Reyes the boxing gloves he usually keeps in his locker.

What the heck happened to Glavine?
Well Glavine just cemented his place as the all time most overated "Big Time, Big Game" pitcher in the history of baseball
Lol , The Mutts won't be takling over NY this season as soooooooooo many retards told us Yank fans , when The Yanks were slumping! What a complete meltdown!!!!!!!!!!!
As a person who loves mentally handicapped people, please don't use bigoted statements to try to insult the Mets faithful. That's just wrong. I hate that that word has become a mainstream way of insulting someone in our society. C'mon. It doesn't have to be ugly like that.
Do you love mentally handicapped people because they aren't bright enough to disagree with you? Or maybe get away from you...yeah that's it! King of nothing and master of none...thats you!
Well, Big game, Big time pitcher and what happens... Well our pitcher never made it out of the first inning and there goes the Mets season right down the drain... Much can be said about randolph, and he has made mistakes ever since he arrived, but this time the whole team has to blame themselves. Reyes took the whole month off and as we Mets fans have always said as reyes goes, the Mets goes. Well he left to go south and the pitching staff went right with him. Thanks guys, Can you return our $100 mil that we Mets fans put out to see you fall on your faces????
On each individual day, the Mets had their pitching woes. But, I do agree that Reyes' lack of production hurt the most. He's supposed to drive teams crazy, and he didn't do much of that in the final month of the season. I'm not the kind of person who likes to talk smack about managers and general managers. To me, it's the players' performance that matters most.
Anyway, it was a fun ride. I love baseball. I love the Mets. But, for me, baseball season is over.
I have a couple of friends who are Phillies fans; and, hey, this has been a great thrill-ride for them the past month. I'm going Biblical with this one: "Rejoice with those who rejoice. Weep with those who weep."
Congratulations Phillie fans. As much as I hate the team, I know there's a million guys out there just like me who love that team just as much as I love my Mets.
It will be interesting to see what moves are made this offseason. It would be a nice bit of revenge if the Giants could beat the Eagles tonight. He he he...
Glavine has cemented his place in Mets history as the Atlanta double agent he always was percived to be. FIRE WILLIE! DISMEMBER THE BULLPEN!
Another 1st for us Met fans We blew a 71/2 game lead and didn't even make the playoffs great job minaya evaluateing your pitchers, Glavin 7 runs in 1st inning in a big game and than the no hit wonders prevailed 120 million for Beltless, and the Mut at 1st Delnothing all year. Here we go again no Mets and Da Jets suck too
When do the Islanders start....
Thank you, Mets, for the biggest choke in baseball history. GO PHILS!
Maybe the Mut fans will think twice next year, come April and May.
You get what you deserve, Mut fans.
Don't talk trash to a team filled with pride, magic, tradition, mystique, especially in April and May.
Dont blame Willy either. Blame Los Locos....reyes, del-dont-godo, wright, glav, etc.
"Introducing your 2007-2008 National East Division Champs, the Philadlphia Phillies!"
Maybe we can put "For Sale" signs on everyone except Wright. It is probably just overreacting because I am emotionally charged, but you @#$@#$%^ Mets, you all played like @#$#$ #$%$^%$* !@#!@#!!! I'm not a hockey guy so I am leaving the Islanders and Rangers out of this, but the NY swagger only exist in the Bronx. Every @#@$ day I have to hear about the Phillies, Sixers or Eagles ( I really don't have a problem with the Sixers). All of a sudden Jimmy Rollins (he did say they were the team to beat) stepped up to the plate, pointed to the left field stands, and knocked one out. There is not enough blame to go around here. And Minaya, stop screwin around and go over the top the following season. Delgado denied the Mets 2 years ago, then signs with them with little in the tank. The Phillies surrendered Wagner and had to be laughing when he signed with New York. Got Castillo at 32 ??? Stop trading prospects, cause guess what ? IT AIN'T WORTH IT. Build for the future. And stopped trying to force 4th and 5th starters into middle relief. IT DOESN'T WORK. They need to do a complete facelift. Just because your moving to a new park in a couple of years doesn't mean anything!!! Ask Baltimore!! I'm not gonna bash Glavine because first, he unfortunately decided today was going to be his 2nd worst career start. Second, he has been a relatively dependable starter. I think you can yell at Willie, but not kill him. Willie can't execute for the players. They had nothing left after yesterday. No replacement for Pedro. Alou did what was expected....sat on the DL, came off then decided to play. In the end, forget the offense Minaya. Don't outsmart yourself and the rest of New York. Get your pitching strait. Easier said than done I know, but start with middle relief, the closer and finally back to the starting rotation. PLEASE!!!!! I tip my cap to Philly. A Giant loss tonight could make life miserable for a long time.
...well at least the bullpen is coming around...only 1 run in 8.2 today and striking out 13...
I know, I know. Glavine took the team right out of the game but come on, in an elimination game, you have to do better than 1 run and 5 hits......
I hate to say this, but Omar brought in Rickey Henderson to mentor Jose Reyes and Jose is turning into Rickey Henderson. Trying to hit home runs, not running out ground balls - I know that Henderson was brought in to help Reyes with taking pitches and base stealing but no one bothered to consider the baggage that comes with him.
Reyes was already an immature player, and at 25 you have to wonder if he's going to ever be a mature player or are we going to be using "oh it's just Jose being Jose" like Red Sox fans say "it's Manny being Manny." I would honestly consider moving him this winter. Not giving him away, but getting some really good players back for him - especially pitchers because, lets be honest, Tom Glavine and El Duque have to go.
And I'm sick of Billy Wagner spouting off. Hey Wags, you know why Willie and Peterson can't manage the pen? Because you guys out there stink!
I hope they were cleto reyes gloves the best boxing gloves in the world.
I got a pair from www.wbcme.co.uk
Mets rule!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would love to move Delgado this winter but there are $20 million reasons I don't think he's getting traded. That said, guys I would move if I were Omar are:
Lo Duca - too much of a hot head, and he's been breaking down.
Green/El Duque/Glavine
I would look into the market for Wagner - like the Yankees did with Sheffield and Randy Johnson, I just don't think Wagner's performance is worth the distraction he provides in his comments. The Mets have almost no farm, maybe Wagner getting moved to a team like the Indians could change that.
Reyes, like I said above, I don't like the way his attitude and game have changed.
The biggest problem is that we've only got a couple of prospects and NONE who can help in the pen I think moving a Reyes, Wagner and Millidge could help restock the system and give the Mets a bunch of guys who could contribute right away.
Anyone notice when Pedro returned the Mets started losing? Yeah, Pedro brought his Red Sox bad luck loser mentality with him.
memo to Omar... blow it up everyone goes except Wright
He he!
Choke!
Remember May? Yeah you all thought you were so great. That's why they play 162 games; it seperates the contenders from the pretenders.
Where's my binky? I can't stop crying...my my my Mets blew it.
Mommy, can I stay home from school tomorrow? I'm not feeling so good and the Yankees fans are going to pull really really hard on my underwear. I knew I should have rubbed it in more back in May. Please can I stay home mommy, please!
Lot of Emotions here. First unless there is an elite manager out there who is available Randolph stays but he will be warned start thinking like a manager. There will be changes in the pitching staff. Gone will be Glavin, Heilman ( in a trade) Schonwiess ( a trade or release). El Duque that is a tough one was cruising along until the bunyon ruined it all for him,not sure if Minaya is will ing to give him up just yet. Pelfry or humber could also be traded only if the Mets recieve a true # 1 in return such as Garland from Chicago. As a Mets fan lets hope the bad off season Minaya had does not continue, for ultimatly the lack of finding good arms led to an early winter break. Sanchez should be back next year, if he listens to the medical staff this time. But, ultimatly what the Mets need more than anything else then changing players is a real ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT.......Plus a good young power hitting catcher who will be here for a long time, not sure if Castro is the one have my doubts about him.
You know maybe Omar can pry Heath Bell away from San Diego...oh yes there is this guy in the Florida bullpen...Lindstrom is his name who throws 100mph...and you know there was this young pitcher for Kansas City...Bannister maybe Omar can swing a deal...I mean we have a guy named Burgos who is quite a prospect.
If you want to blame somebody, blame me.
I traded Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano.
Sorry Met Fans.
METS_- My ENTIRE TEAM SUCKS
Direct Tv here has the New York Mets Post Season Playoff Preview on Channel 625 here @ 3:30 Pm PST.....they ran a blank screen for the half hour!!!!!!!Catch the Rising Stench!!!!!!!
You Yankee fans really need to get a life if you are coming to a METS blog to rub it in. Go back to your Yankees blog where you can start jumping off the A-Rod bandwagon once he goes 2-for-42 in the ALDS.
Reyes had better hope the Mets don't cut Mota, or he is in line to be the next target of the boo-birds.
As for hiring Rickey to mentor Reyes, maybe they can also hire Kingman to teach him how to hit and Greg Jefferies to mentor him on professionalism? Sorry, but I'm really bitter about this collapse.
That is bush league. SNY wants to play with the big boys (ESPN and YES) and did just like the Mets did.collapsed. They should have been on the air and the Mets should never have been in this hole they dug.
I am a Met fan since 1962 and have lived through so many bizarre, idiotic moments along with some incredibly great memories.
These past 17 days rank as perhaps the all time low point.
One can never Assume anything and these players, along with Management, assumed that they were entitled to win.
A ridiculous way for anyone to act in any profession.
They need a cleansing during the offseason and I am now painfully aware that in the future, nothing is ever secure for a Mets fan, until the fat lady sings,
How about an apology from the Wilpon's or Omar to the fans. We deserve at least that!
I am Mr. Met
and I am ticked!

I suppose this is what happens when your ace is out all season. At the end of the day, the losses just piled up. We could point to a number of losses through out the season besides the ones at the end.
I have seen a change in Met fans over the years. The following observations are generalities and do not of course apply to everybody. Met fans from 60's thru 80's were the optimistic its a beautiful day for baseball lets see what creative words are used by the sign man on banner day types. New York was a N.L.town Met fans and their predecessors were felt superior because rooting for the Yankees was like rooting for U.S. steel in the ‘50’s and in the ‘70’s the Yankees were “The Bronx is Burning” craziness. The Yanks 1996 championship changed everything. Jeter and his crew were outstanding citizens playing the game right. They symbolized a city recovering from years of crime and grime. A Met fan inferiority complex developed added and abetted by a Yankee fan superiority complex. The 2000 World Series of course made things ten times worse. The last two years it had seemingly turned around. The Yanks had the old selfish players we had smiling Jose. The press told us every day we were the new kings of New York(The truth was the Yankees still had better attendance and TV ratings but we had closed the gap by a lot). After this will a lot of Met fans become like Red Sox fans pre ‘04 or Rangers fans pre ‘94 consciously or subconsciously seeing every good happening as a sign of impending doom? I hope not but I fear this will be the lasting legacy of the collapse of ‘07’. it.
Which gets me in a very roundabout way my theory as for one of the reasons Willie was so passive. If you think about his experience as a Met fan in the late ‘60’s early 70’s and as a Yankee player and coach whenever there was a slump, crises, negative press etc if the talent was there it always worked out in the end.
All you Yankee fans here posting nasty little comments should remember one thing...it was just a few years ago you had your OWN monumental collapse..you might remember, the ALCS when you were one out away from taking it all from the Red Sox, but guess what, you imploded, lost the game and the follwoing 3 games and had to watch the Sox go on and win the World Series...have a little compassion and remember, you've won absolutely nothing yet! Don't get too excited.....what goes around comes around!
This Mutts collapse was much worse. Remember it was 4 games the Yankees lost to the eventual World Champions. You're team lost to chumps. Nationals, Marlins, Cardinals, Phillies are not in the same league as the 04 Red Sox. You can spin it any way you want. The truth is something else!!! Again so much for this being a Mets town and the Yankees rein being over. Remember the Mutts are dogs and they showed it again with the greatest collapse in the history of baseball. Deal with it!!
let me explain something, LOM.
First, Yanks lost in PLAYOFFS that year, not right before playoff season.
Second, what goes around, comes around, is exactly right. All the cocky and arrogant Muts fans were infiltrating the Yankee blogs, claiming how good the Muts were, and how bad the Yanks were. You claim all in good fun, I say its May and April.
Third, you have a team full of pretenders. Reyes, Wright, Wagner, Delgado, and the rest of the Los Locos. Yanks have Jeter (proven winner, 4 rings) Pettitte (proven winner, 4 rings), Rivera (proven winner, 4 rings), A-rod (2 MVP's in 4 years with Yanks).
So next year, when Reyes and all the Los Locos are "popping" their jerseys, running around Yankee Stadium after a Muts win in April/June, remember what it takes to be a contender, let alone a champion!
Bottom line is Met fans always seem to celebrate in April & May because they anticipate (correctly it seems) Collapses like this. Please never compare a gutless coward choker like Reyes to Jeter again unless Met fans are determined to reveal themselves to be fools. The guy hid behind a 60 something year old and batted 215 in September. Gutless coward with no character. Why do you think bad teams like Washington & the Marlins loved wrecking the Mets season? Is it because the Mets play with no class and dance around like idiots after the smallest individual success? Or is it because the Met fans act like idiots with moronic chants? 2 years in a row teams have clearly delighted eliminating the Mets specifically
Will Omar get blamed? I don't think so. He's the hero of the liberal media. He should be fired for this disaster. But of course he will get a pass. Here's a question for you. Do you think if the Yankees, had a roster of a team, that was 95% filled with an ethnic group, and the GM was the same ethnicity, of that group, would they get away with it? No i don't think so. Before the season started their would be an outrage. Also,The Assistant GM, pandered to Carlos Delgado in 05, to come to the Mets based on his race. Would their be an outcry from the MEDIA? I know the answer would be yes. But in this case, Rickey Henderson, Rick Peterson and Tom Glavine will get the blame. They deserve it too. But Minaya deserves it the worst. He should be fired for setting up this climate and the collapse of 07.
Part of the problem{again}is in our scouting. Many times over the years we overate our talent{Alex Escobar+Gregg Jeffries off the top of my head}and it comes back to haunt us.Once again the Yankees get a Phil Hughes or a Joba and we get a Mike Pelfry...Fan since day one
Burge, Scouting your own organization is something that teams fail time and time again. Being a Yankees fan they didn't know what they had in Cano. You just hope that they trade the right guys and keep the stars. I thought that was part of Minaya's strenghths. But again this was proven to be incorrect.
So the Mets are 95% latin?
Let's look at the Mets 25 man roster
Delgado
Castillo
Reyes
Wright
Loduca
Alou
Beltran
Milledge
Green
Anderson
Conine
Gotay
Glavine
Martinez
Hernandez
Maine
Perez
Pelfrey
Wagner
Heilman
Mota
Schoenweis
Feliciano
Sele
Smith
By my count that's 11 of 25 or 44%. So quit with the racist bs. Mets have enough problems.
I've been saying all season that the there is a real difference between a Met fan and a Yankee fan:
A Met fan will be watching the game with the Mets ahead 9-0 in the bottom of the ninth, two outs, nobody on, the opposing team's worst hitter up and their best pitcher on the mound, and they will be thinking "How are we going to blow this game?"
A Yankee fan will be the game with the Yanks behind 9-0 in the bottom of the ninth, two outs, nobody on, the opposing team's best pitcher on the mound and their worst hitter at the plate and they will thinking "We've got them just where we want them!"
For the record, I'm a Met fan and I saw this coming back when the Mets lost 4 straight to the Phillies.
No Met fans it was not a bad dream. The Mets did indeed lose yesterday eliminating you from the playoffs in the worst collapse in the history of the game. Go back to sleep and dream of what will never be!
Go Yanks!
The real reason they are not going ot be playing..........as appeared in the news papaer here in california......they were 41-40 at home.........oh and mets fans.......WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
For the record I posted in June after the Mets lost 3 straight at home to Philly after leading coming into the 8th inning or later in all three games that the Mets were not a championship caliber team at that point(Is it possible to have that post emailed to me?). To be honest I did think the Mets would win the division by default before being swept in the first round. I did not think the Philly pitching would hold up.
Since the ugly issue of race was brought up I do believe Willie and Omar got easy treatment in the press. Many times I wondered if the team I was reading about was the same arrogant lazy team I was watching. To their credit and my surprise the owned by Mets SNY crew was much more on target the the so called neutral media(Although Keith failed to mention Archie Bell and the Drells when referencing the Mets). The reasons for this kid glove treatment are that Willie and Omar work the media well, they are native New Yorkers and Willie has won in this town. Unfortunately it is my opinion that their minority status was ONE factor also.
Meet the Muts, let me explain something to you...the Mets are not my team. I root for the Red Sox as a matter of fact. And the fact that the Mets dropped this game is no different than the playoffs. The Yankees had a historic collapse back in '04. They were laughing it up and thought they had one out to go and they'd be celebrating, but guess what, the Sox battled back and stared you down and went on to win the World Series. And I might add the Yankees have collapsed at some point during the playoffs for the last 7 years. So please don't act like the Yankees have it all together. A few short months ago your team was a shambles too. But I guess you've forgotten that, right? And it remains to be seen how far your Yankees will go this year. With a payroll of 200 million overpaid, elitist players, you ought to make it through the first round, don't you think? This year you got in on the wildcard, next year you may not even be that lucky. Wouldn't that be something.....
