Gotay (rhymes with Bow Tie)

Ruben Gotay is starting at second base again. Willie Randolph said, basically, that he's not crazy, that since Gotay is hitting and the team is struggling, he's going to keep playing Gotay. Plus, Jose Valentin has that hurt pinkie (or is in pinky?) from his All-Star break "altercation."
So what do you all think of Gotay? Legit second baseman of the present and future or flash in the pan?

Watching Gotay, I think he's got a chance to be an above-average hitter for a second baseman. His defense is probably below average, but if he can keep from being a liability out there, I think you have to go with him for the rest of the season. It's pretty clear that Valentin's knee injury is going to keep him from being the player he had been.

If Gotay hits anything close to what he's doing now, I'd seriously consider going into '08 with him, and perhaps even signing Valentin at a reduced rate (assuming surgery is successful) as his back-up. This still leaves Anderson Hernandez (who seems to have discovered his stroke at AAA this year) as your emergency guy.

If Omar goes that way, and if he takes the plunge and goes into '08 with Gomez and Milledge - both cheap options - at the corner OF spots (I think you just about have to do this) that leaves a fair amount of money to fill limited holes - catcher and one big arm each in the 'pen and the rotation.

HELLO JIM???????ARE YOU THAT IGNORANT?? HOW ARE THE METS RACIST? ARE YOU THINKING OF THE YANKEES JUST CAUSE THEY BOTH PLAY IN NY. DO YOUR HOMEWORK JERKY!

Willie has to keep playing Gotay while he's hot. He's not terrible defensively and should get better with more playing time. I like having him in there.....someone on this team has to hit. Right now Reyes, Gotay and Milledge are carrying the team.

Wow, Reyes is so gay:
