Manuel to O's?

os.jpgIn the wake of all these losses piling up for the Mets, could they lose bench coach Jerry Manuel, too? It appears that the firing of manager Sam Perlozzo is imminent in Baltimore -- possibly today -- and Manuel could be at the top of the Orioles' list. YES analyst and 2006 Manager of the Year Joe Girardi also is being mentioned as a candidate, though it seems that the former Yankee catcher is waiting out Joe Torre for the skipper's job in the Bronx.

The Mets likely won't stand in the way of Manuel leaving. But that would be a huge blow to manager Willie Randolph, who has benefited greatly from having Manuel beside him as a trusted confidante. Stay tuned.

Update (12:01 p.m.)
-- Looks like Perlozzo got the axe.

Huge blow!

It's the bench coach. Replace "huge" with "little to no" and I'm with you.

Pete ... Trust me on this one. It would be a big loss for Willie.

Very likely...... everything else has been going wrong for Willie and the Mets lately. I'm thinking they might be able to hold off the Nationals and avoid the cellar.

hey here's an idea maybe franco could take over for manuel!

Just think, maybe Willie's Mets would have only won 20 games by now. The Mets might be under .500.

Or, simply note that from what we consider the 4 major sports, the manager (or coach) in baseball means the least. Joe Torre is the shining example, having been horrible (Mets), bad to mediocre (Braves, Cardinals), and great (Yankees), all in one life because it had so little to do with him and so much to do with the players he happened to have. Then, extapolate the importance of the "bench" coach from that. And you end up with nothing.

It used to be that the manager would blab on with the pitching and hitting coaches in the dugout before making the rather simply decisions of baseball. Now they generally hire another guy to put on a uniform, walk around (mostly sit in) the dugout, and babble about decisions that shouldn't take too long to master.

So, next time you see Manuel and Willie chatting in the dugout during the late innings, or you hear one of the other substantiate the incredible importance of Manuel's position to you, think this (after you think, "who are you kidding?"): "How'd Willie survive before Manuel brought his mediocre resume here."

Bench coach?! Maybe he's been alright. I mean, the benches seem pretty sturdy.

Lennon? A little lemon zinger directed at Willie? Oh come now.. lad.
I can only hope you and Wallace Mathews don't share a bunkbed with custom spider man sheets.

Wallace Mathews is at it again folks. Gee, he loves to bash the Mets.
But there is one little tidbit of info Wally has conveniently forgotten in his phony essay, or rather attack on Carlos Beltran ( a target, are you kidding?)
Beltran carried the team on his entire back up until two weeks ago. In fact until his collision and bruised knee, he was on his way to yet another hall of fame year. He is still on a pace to have his 7th 100 RBI, and 7 100 Runs scored year. He has done this with Carlos Delgado and David Wright batting behind him. Both players admittedly have been slumping most of the year. It has taken David Wright to be on fire like a volcano to get his numbers up. And Delgado, he is on a free fall in the batting order. And how about Beltran's defense, is there another better center fielder?
No. And please don't even mention Victorino who in my opinion is a "creation" of a little heart, and a bandbox ballpark. Beltran has a lot of assists, and he plays in a cavernous centerfield (410ft).
I will take Carlos Beltran,
and my chances for a ring anyday.
Wallace, slow day today?

Since the Mets are "Losing" Jerry Manuel....
Why don't we trade for "Charlie Manuel"?
He's a great manager, I think he would be a valuable ass(et) to the team...

What's with the negativity we are the great Mets. Didn't we win muliple world series crowns? Boy i thought this was our town and Omar the tent maker was the best GM in the history of baseball. Don't believe the hype. Just be happy that we play in the weak NL. This is pathetic. Our pitching is terrible and we are being exposed. Can the Carlos's just swim back to the Carribean? What i love, is that the Commie Delgado, is such a pleasure to deal with the media. He loved when SI wrote that glowing article about his family. Now he shows his true colors. He's a coward who won't stand up and take his medicine when he doesnt perform. Hey Carlos how many outs are there? Man this is really disgraceful!!

Amazing no more? Didn't I read your ridiculous rant before? Why don't you just admit that you would let Johnny Damon penetrate you.

Where's Waldo?
Where's Alou?
