Glav or Glav not?

glavine.jpgIs there a bigger start for Tom Glavine this season than tomorrow night against the A's? I don't think so. Personally, the frustrated Glavine badly needs a victory to inch a little closer to No. 300 and prove to himself that he can still be a reliable front-end starter. And from a team standpoint, the Mets are desperate. Or as desperate as a first-place team can be.

After a week of self-reflection, and a little fine-tuning, expect Glavine to rebound from his last two flops. It's no coincidence that he was pounded by two AL teams -- the Tigers and Yankees -- but the A's lineup isn't quite as powerful as those two. But if Glavine stumbles again, GM Omar Minaya will have no choice but to deal a few prospects for a top-flight starter like the White Sox' Mark Buehrle by next month's July 31 trade deadline.

Unless they're prepared to dump Glavine, getting another starter isn't exactly the tonic the team needs. I wasn't in favor of re-signing him, but I don't know how they undo it now.

who cares about singers canceling tours or writers dying? I thought this was a Mets blog. If you have nothing to say about the Mets at least keep the topic on baseball!!!!

frank...nasty, nasty?
Has Carlos Delado got you that bitter?

I said it before and I will say it again. For all the negative critiques being leveled at the Mets (ahem, David Lennon) I would rather find out what is needed now ---a month and a half before the nonwaiver trade deadline---than find out you have a need in September. Am I right?
I don't want to know about a weakness just before the playoffs. Mets are in first place. They can make a deal or two. They can adjust the staff or the bench. They can get a corner outfielder. They may even land one of the big name first basemen. Either way, it is a blessing to not be fooling yourself and this is a golden opportunity for Omar. The pressure is on the Phillies, Marlins, and Braves. Omar is in the drivers seat. So lets be real people.

Kevin Davidoff plastering the mets...wow...I wonder if Kevin has seen any met games this year. Not being snotty, just wondering.
He says that the Mets should be "thankful" that the Braves and Phillies have been awful. Yeah, Kevin. Great observation. So basically you agree that there is no urgency for Omar to hastily rush into a deal (Kazmir) right? The other teams are not applying pressure to unseat the mets.
Mets are in first place.
In fact Omar has all the cards, right? And also Kevin---we are not even at the ALL STAR BREAK YET? How are you able to project complete gloom? I didn't know they gave out trophies in June? Do they?
They don't Kevin.
Oh, and then here comes the "inside info" that we crave. He says that the mets are looking at "Mark Sweeney" and "Jeff Conine"!!! Ha!!! The Giants can"t GIVE Mark Sweeney away. And Conine? Let me tell you, he is one Giambi deposition away from the front page news.
Anyway, I think that the Mets will make a couple of changes and pull away like a racecar---just like last year. Just as dominant as they were last year and the beginning of this year. You'll see.
Oh, and Buehrle ? White sox would be moronic to trade him. Simply moronic--they should sign him. You say he's going to the Cardinals?
They don't pay that kind of bread. Otherwise they would be in first place right now and wouldn't have penny pinched this offseason. I guess I just expected more Kevin.

OK, Glavine has had some bad starts but would the Mets cut him before he reaches 300 victories. Hard call.....but who on the starter staff is getting replaced? Obviously, Sosa, though he has pitched as well as Maine and Perez and El Duque this season. Who can forget how he pitched in Detroit...or was he lucky and they were just tired out from their trip home? It would be nice to have the luxury of making one of those guys a long relief man.

I am looking to buy Rusty Staub's children's book for my daughter? Anyone have any feedback? It's about Mr. Met. Please let me know.
Thanks.
Lets go Mets.

Long Suffering, I don't think cutting Tom Glavine is near reality. Remember he honestly could be leading the league in wins right now if he had any run support. He has had a few rough starts in a row. But I never expected him to win twenty. I think Bill James in association with cnn or espn predicted 10 wins for glavine and 4 foe El Duque.
I predicted 14 for Glavine and 11 for El Duque. Sosa going back to relief leaves me confused when I consider that Pelfry was 0-5 as a fifth starter and basically
was pitching batting practice. If the Mets can get another starter however and split up the soft-tossers with hard throwers, that would be really awesome.

Uh, Omar Fan:
It's KEN Davidoff, not Kevin.

Hey idiot....If it's ken or kevin,
nobody cares you moron.
Nobody cares.
In fact I don't even care about you either.
GO METS.

Ken Davidoff? I thought it was Biff?

You don't care? Why should anyone care about you? You can't even get the guy's name right and you want to criticize him? At least he puts his name on his opinions, unlike you, you sniveling little worm.

How about Mookie Davidoff?
Because he was a traitor too. Where's LaRussa?

I don't care because I don't give credence to people who spew idiotic rhetoric....like you jerk.
As far as "What's the Frequency Kenneth" is concerned. I will use his article to LINE MY PETS BIRDCAGE.
And also you a**, who here or on any blog puts their name? You don't.
Also I hope that you should be more concerned with "Omar Minaya" and the reality of the 2007 Met season, rather than a hack who doesn't care about the mets, or watches the mets ,but who writes about the mets.
But if you happen to be his boyfriend, I apologize. And I hope that he doesn't withhold tonight.

Yeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaah !

Ken Davidoff is just a psuedonym....his real name is Mike Francessa.

Hey idiots...there is a game tonight.
Beat oakland now, and be morons later. Lets go mets.

Wouldn't it be funny if his name was David?
David Davidoff?

Carlberg, Mets get another starter and place Sosa in the pen I think you have something special there. He can be a swing man like he did for the Braves two years ago. If you need a start there is a good chance he can make something happen in a pinch.
Also I am worried about Smith gettin fatigued in July, not unlike Tim Lincecum as a rookie has suddenly hit a wall. Both players really have great upside and were rushed to the show. As a swing man Sosa was 13-3 for the Braves one season.
