That, folks, is your New York Mets lineup today. With last night's game ending at 12:53 a.m. and the Yankees series starting tomorrow, Willie Randolph decided to give Reyes, Wright, Beltran, Lo Duca and Easley the day off. Reyes said he could have played, wanted to play.
Right thing to do? How would you feel if you bought a ticket to today's game?

First, I'm ticked that they're essentially giving themselves a split of the series, rather than going for the win. I'm ticked that they put Vargas out there, give him a shot, and don't give him any support. And I'm ticked that Julio FU&%&^$% Franco can't hit his way out of a paper bag! This guy sure got old in a hurry, huh? I went to look over at the Mets statistics, and I am SHOCKED that they are only saying he struck out 6 times this year (well, 8 now) because after watching the Milwaukee series, I think I've seen him strike out 43 times in the past week! 8 strikeouts in 24 at bats! Someone send this guy to the glue factory, and quick!
Agreed about Vargas. Really sucks that he's getting the chance a lot of us were hoping for when Pelfrey was struggling, the guy is throwing a two-hitter, throwing just about every pitch for a strike, and is losing 1-0 because of those two singles wrapped around a stolen base. And I'm hoping that we can just get someone home to help support this guy.
All right!! And as I hit enter, RBI double by Gotay and we're tied up at one, with the "heart of the order" (green, delgado & franco??) coming up!
What a Disgrace!! Nice going Randope!!
F&*%&^$ING YEAH BABY!!!! Now that's a bottom of the 9th inning we can stand up and cheer about!!!
Oh, and by the way, I totally called the Nats beating the second-place Braves again, in my post at 9 this morning! Now lets kick some Yankee A$$!!!!!!
If I, in my wisdom, had not sat all my guys for today's game, they would not have been available for the 9th inning. So to you, Nostradumbus, I saw this coming, did you? :)
what a 9th!
Mets are 14-5 on the road.
Brewers (critics darling) are 9-10 on the road.
Yankees are 2 games under .500.
7 innings pitched. 2 walks.
Vargas is here to stay,
he won't go anywhere.
He is young.
Lefthanded.
Throws strikes.
At this point he has surpassed Pelfry by a mile.
Endy Chavez needs to start now. It is May 17th. He got his first stolen base.
That is a disgrace on Randolph.
If Carlos Zambrano is the next Met pitcher,
are they going to pay him by the pound ?
Or are they going to give him a million for every inch on his waistline.
Grow your own,
let the Cubs keep their problems to themselves.
I still believe Gomez is being showcased for a trade.
He is the bait for a big bat or a big starter.
Whatever happens, after a lot of so-so deals by Omar,
he is due for a big deal.
wow..wat a game!!..listened to it, as i worked. howie rose about lost his voice on the delgado call...why ppl goin nuts over the line-up today?...those guys played all year so far, wats wrong with a day off after playin till 1 am the night b4...pipe down, willie is doin wonderful job..he goes by his gut feeling. i love gomez, milledge is the one to trade. omar, im thinking, feels the same way...deal him b4 its to late...LETS KICK SOME JUNKEE BUTT THIS WEEKEND!!...todays win helps with some momentum.
And to think that I was angry at Willie for handing this game to the Cubbies......I guess they didn't want it. Good way to go into the Subway Series. The Yankees have far more to lose this weekend than the Mets but I hope that doesn't make the Mets any less hungry.
WOW the first few posts here are SO funny - what a bunch of know it all - knownothings - HAHAHAHAH
Go move to the Bronx with those attitudes.
YA GOTTA BELIEVE!!!
Do it twice,
it's extra nice.
Shut up Kay. Holier than thou attitudes are more befitting Yankmee fans. Everyone that was watching the game - which I suspect did not include you - felt the same way. Willie was not setting up a line up to "win" this game, he set up a lineup to rest before the Yankmees series. And Vargas was pitching a really good game at that point, with NO ONE on the field to support him. And the game ending rally included one regular who actually played (Delgado) a semi-regular (Chavez) and two of the rested guys (Beltran/Wright) - it's not like Julio Franco contributed a damned thing to the game yesterday.
So zip it and be happy we won.
Well, before you start drinking the Vargas kool-aid, he made some stupid pitches in that one inning, and one inning was always Pelfrey's undoing as well - usually the first. While he deserves another start at some point, 5 runs in 7 innings isn't anything to get excited about.
Ask yourself this - if we didn't come back, and had lost 5-1, would Vargas be "here to stay?"
bravess*ck, if you go around the league the major point regarding the Mets or rather the theme is their depth. Other announcers from different teams lament the fact that the Mets seemingly just keep coming at you regardless of who slumps (David Wright) or who is hurt. As we see our second baseman goes down and the next fella hits 6 jacks. Not many teams can do that. So I think Willie should do this more often to play to his strength. It can get Franco cookin' again and unleash Endy Chavez ( a future allstar).
Ted Theadore, you will salivating over Vargas by the allstar break.
That is my prediction.
And I hate Koolaid bro'.
WOW - being told to shut up - dude chill. I have watched/listened to every pitch of every inning of every game. I have been to 5 games so far. Back off - I'm not some fly by night you are "shutting up". Been watching since before you were born I'm sure. I am happy with the win how you would think otherwise.....grow up
