Shea matinee

who.jpgManager Willie Randolph opened this morning's press briefing with a cheery "Hello Class," before welcoming a debate on the definition of a slump. Randolph took exception to the media's tendency to refer directly to statistics, saying that a player could be swinging the bat great and still have nothing to show for it, numbers-wise. The two players he cited were Carlos Delgado and David Wright. Delgado was just 2-for-20 on the homestand, but smacking the ball with authority, so Randolph doesn't consider his first baseman to be slumping. Wright, on the other hand, had a pair of singles Tuesday night, but Randolph felt he was not yet out of his early malaise. I'd have to agree.

Endy Chavez gets the start in leftfield today with Randolph giving the 40-year-old Moises Alou a breather. Alou is not hurting from anything specific, Randoph said, but anyone who spends time in the clubhouse has noticed the leftfielder with plenty of ice hanging off different body parts, and always his two knees.

"He doesn't like to sit," Randolph said of Alou, "but we'll be better off in the long run."

Since Mike Pelfrey doesn't choose his own music before starts, the Shea DJ played The Who's "The Kids Are Alright" for him this afternoon. Definitely an upgrade from Asia's "Only Time Will Tell," which marked his season debut here on April 13.

another start or two like this and he'll be listening to the Who in New Orleans...

Might I recommend for a fifth starter.
Noah Lowry or Brad Hennesey of the Giants, or Jon Lieber or Brett Myers of the Phillies.
All of these players are currently being shopped.
Myers and Lowry have big contracts Mets would have to pay.
Pelfry is just not ready,
he needs one full year in the minors to develop his stuff.

HE MAY HAVE TOOK IT ON THE CHIN BUT, THAT WAS TWO GAMES IN A ROW OUR OFFENSE WAS UNACCEPTABLE AGAINST A TEAM WE SHOULD BE PLAYING WITH.

FEW MORE GAMES LIKE THIS, WE'LL BE IN LAST PLACE LISTENING TO YANKEE FANS!

PICK IT UP BOYS!
LETS GO!

Yo, Willie and the Mets, you need your "A" game! Right now, you're playing the "C," "D," "E," "F," and "G" games. It has shown twice against Atlanta, once with Philadelphia, and now with the Rockies. Beltran and Reyes are your hot hitters. Wright and Delgado are not. Ever since the 2006 All-Star Game HR Derby, Wright has been in a funk with his power. He may be NY's and the media's darling, that can change quick with lack of production!

Atlanta's sending you a message and the Phillies look as though they are coming around. The Mets, after the diappointment of the 2006 NLCS, are either going to be on a mission or continue talking about a missed opportunity! You can just talk about it, playing with desire helps.

Tiger one, are you a Yankee fan?
Too many losers posting over there on the Yankee Blog? Whining? Complaining?
Being annoying?
I saw over 200 entries for a thread. 200!~
200 complaining pathetic losers.
That is what happens when you are in "last" place Tiger.
But Tiger: THE METS ARE IN FIRST YOU PATHETIC YANKEE FAN.
And Tiger: THE YANKEES ARE GOING TO BE CELLAR DWELLING ALL YEAR BECAUSE THEY STINK.
JOIN US, OR SIMPLY GO AWAY.

hahahahah 20 hits!!!!!!!!

How's the cellar Yankee fans?
Don't go away mad, just go away......
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha !
Last place, but hey--don't worry when Alex Rodriguez leaves next year, and a mid-thirties Derek Jeter makes another 40 errors next year, you can always come and chat with us Met fans.
The best team in New York is in Queens.

Darth Tater? Darth Tater?? What type of name is that, Potato Head?

I have been a Mets fan since 1967! I was at the game on September 24, 1969 when they beat Steve Carlton of the Cardinals 6-0 and clinched the Eastern Division! My blue and orange roots run deep!

The Mets are now the target of every National League team because of winning the Division. If they come at you hard, the best thing to do is match their intensity! That is not a complaint but an observation. You don't want either the Braves or the Phillies to have the thought that they can beat you.

Let me give you a little history. The Mets and Cubs played a four game series at Wrigley in the Spring of 1969. The Cubs won the first two games and asserted their dominance. But the Mets swept the Sunday doubleheader. Those wins built their confidence for later series with the Cubs. Had the Mets lost all four games, 1969 may have been another story.

So, what's wrong with commenting that the Mets need to bring their "A" game to every series? Especially, when they play against the Braves and Phillies? You would expect though battles against that level of competition. Beating teams like the Rockies or Nationals is the way you build up your lead and momentum.

I am definitely not a Yankee fan! It's National League baseball all the way!

So Pelfry had a bad day at the office, combined with his previous bad day and his last start of spring training, maybe he should go back to New Orleans and get back into a groove. Speaking of The Zephyrs...their AAA team, Jorge Sosa is lighting it up with an ERA of 1.38 and he is 3-0. Chan Ho Park has an ERA in the 7's.

And lets get David Set Right....just relax, stop the marketing push and get back to having fun at baseball....did too much happen too fast for this young fellow...hope not, but he needs to take a breath and realize what it was that got him here.

Till later,
Mr. Met

Oh Tiger One, Gil Hodges has taught you well.
I called you out and
you showed your colors.
But the race for dominance is a long one Tiger One.
At this pace Tiger One,
the Mets will finish at 105-57. How many series have they won this year?
How many double plays have they turned?
How many teams have 4 legitimate MVP candidates on their team, including..the leading one.
Maine, Beltran, Alou, and Reyes.
How brilliant has the pitching been?
How many teams have a bullpen like the Mets?
How many people have Endy Chavez?
The Mets are in first place, and Delgado and Wright are not even rocking yet.
Do not give in to the Dark Side Tiger One.
Be glad you are not like the Yankees.....in last place and making excuses.
PS. The phillies are getting ready to vacate the roster. Flash Gordon is being passed around like a sock at a Chili Pepper concert....

Ahhh...I love it! The Marlins score four runs in the bottom of the ninth and chop the Braves down to size! Atlanta is not so "chipper" about that one!

P.S.: There is one caveat worth mentioning. It is, from what I have observed, not a wise thing listening to or following after anyone whose name begins with "Darth."

What the hell is going on with the Yankees?
The pitching is awful. I admit it as a met fan I want them to lose.
But, I don't want them to embarass the city!
Can we show that we are a major league caliber team in the Bronx in 2007?
And can the Yankee fans show a small amount of the class that is inherent in Met fans? Please.

Henry Owens, Fmr. met farmhand.
Tonight v Atlanta.
1 INNING PITCHED.
2 STRIKEOUTS.
Closed the 9th.
Nice, kid.

Well, the Daily News reports that

"If the Mets dipped to the minors, they have options. Sosa, earning $1.25 million at Triple-A New Orleans, is 3-0 with a 1.38ERA and has allowed only one homer in 26 innings despite a career-long propensity for surrendering longballs. Vargas, the lefty obtained from the Marlins for relievers Henry Owens and Matt Lindstrom, drew rave reviews from Randolph this spring and is 2-1 with a 3.42 ERA for New Orleans. His ERA is skewed by his most recent outing, when he surrendered sixruns in 5-2/3 innings against Albuquerque. Humber is the reigning Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week and is 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA. Only Park is unworthy despite a $600,000 contract. Park has a 7.29 ERA with New Orleans.

"'It's always a possibility," Pelfrey acknowledged about returning to the minors. "I'm not guaranteed anything.'"

No kidding! If you weren't a rookie and on the learning curve, it might be a different story.

Let's go with Vargas.
He should never have been sent down.
He is ready now.
