We're about six minutes from John Maine's opening pitch of the Division Series -- can you believe it? John Maine -- and here's the update.
Tom Glavine said earlier this afternoon that he volunteered to pitch Game 1, but believes the Mets made the right call with Maine.
"I feel physically as though I could do it," Glavine said during his news conference. "But I think they made the right decision. If you bump me up a day, now you're pitching me on a day's early rest and you're compromising Game 1 and you're compromising Game 2. By having John pitching Game 1, he stays relatively on turn, I stay on turn, and you're not having to mess anybody's schedule to pitch any game. It just keeps everybody flowing in the same spot."
As for El Duque, he arrived wearing a boot on his right calf -- just as Pedro Martinez did earlier last month -- and that means he is likely done for the postseason. Manager Willie Randolph said Steve Trachsel and Oliver Perez are his starters for Games 3 and 4, but not necessarily in that order.

Carlos had a great game. Two more w's baby, and I have a feeling that Carlos Delgado and Shawn Green will have a great series together. But real life Carlos is a great player, he really is. He deserves our respect. John Maine made his bones today. No doubt.

Notes from the street: As sad as this seems, despite a game 1 victory and John Maine doing awesome in a pinch start---I have noticed that the Met bandwagon is emtying out faster than a Yoko Ono concert at the intermission. My goodness, it is like everyone vanished. This comes from the blogs that I attend, work conversations, the radio, and listening to the buzz. It is almost like the season was an aberration. I even heard a guy on Fox say John Maine's name wrong and his producer didn't even check him on it.
Where have all the good times gone?
It is like a farce, reminds me of '84, '85, '87.
