"So how do you like our podunk town?"
That's an actual quote from an actual Midwestern-type person uttered to me as I waited in line at the Hardee's inside Busch Stadium. Nice folks, these Cardinal fans, and I replied that I like his podunk town just fine (OK, maybe that's a little bit of a stretch. But the Sidney Street Cafe is one of the best restuarants I've been to. And I do enjoy Anheuser-Busch products. The arch is cool, too).
Anyway, back to baseball. One of the more surprising sights before tonight's Game 3 was seeing Orlando Hernandez not only jog with his teammates during warmups, but also field ground balls at shortstop. He would still need to get back on a mound at some point if the Mets want him for a possible World Series start, but his calf tear appears to be healing nicely.
Billy Wagner also seemed to be in good spirits, joking with reporters on the field less than 24 hours after serving up So Taguchi's tie-breaking homer back at Shea in Game 2.
Last but not least, Cliff Floyd looked prettty good taking batting practice, raking balls to rightfield. He even hit one into the seats.

This is off topic but someday, and I hope it's soon, the World Series will still be going on in early November because of a huge snowstorm blanketed an area and games had to be postponed for days and teams couldn't get in or out of airports. When will baseball ever wake up from greed and realize they need to shorten the regular season to 150 games and start playoffs sooner ? Paying steep prices in late October is OK for football but baseball ? Greed, greed, and more greed.
DAVID LENNON: I wonder what was it that gave your identity away to that pathetic Cardinal fan? Was it your big-city attitude? Your savvy? Was it the Newsday posse that surrounded you - all wearing ear pieces and sunglasses at night of course. Or was it your trademark fashion statement.....the gold chains and the shirt unbuttoned down to your navel?
What was it David? Tell us.
Go Mets.
Bob I was wondering if you would like to watch the mets game with me ?
So do you think David Wright is gonna be mvp?
So why didn't the mets offer more colors in the fandini giveaway?
Chocolate chip or oatmeal?
Thanks for the nice remarks about St. Louis (even the crack about "OK maybe that a little bit of a stretch). However, you were a little off on the Ravioli. It's Toasted ... not Fried ... and it's great! Regarding the "podunk" remark, midwesterners don't have any illusions about who and what we are. We just enjoy it. Try it, it's a lot less stressful than trying to meet some other guy's expectations.
I do enjoy Anheuser-Busch products.....how revealing David.
