No word on Cliff

After today's workout, Cliff Floyd personally auditioned for manager Willie Randolph, chasing down fungoes from bench coach Jerry Manuel. Floyd definitely favored his left leg, but he's not too quick to begin with, so it was tough to gauge just how much he is hurting.

The bottom line is that Mets will wait until tomorrow morning to decide -- NLCS rosters are due at 10 a.m. -- and it seems like they are leaning toward including Floyd.

Oh, and there's t this: Carlos Beltran is nursing a small abdominal tear that he suffered during BP before Game 3 of the NLDS in Los Angeles. He insists it's nothing major, though. "The doctors said it's not going to get worse," Beltran said.

Randolph also announced his rotation for the series:
Game 1 -- Tom Glavine
Game 2 -- John Maine
Game 3 -- Steve Trachsel
Game 4 -- Oliver Perez

What's this love affair with Oliver Perez all about? I can see using him in game 4 of a 3-game series. Williams was solid in every start but one. More often than not, Perez came up small.

Why doesn't Randolph go with a 3-man rotation of Maine, Glavine, and Trachsel and put them on a tighter pitch-count. The bullpen is a major strength of the team; why not play to it instead of going with the 'conventional' 4-man rotation?

Matt -- historically 3 man rotations and short rest just don't work. Most blatant example was '73 series when they didn't go to George Stone
and it thre the rest of the series off.

As for a tighter pitch count,
can't get much shorter.
