Willie Randolph would be a lock for Manager of the Year if not for his former Yankee colleague, Joe Girardi. Randolph's Mets may have the best record in baseball, but Girardi has the Marlins on the brink of a playoff berth with a payroll the size of Carlos Beltran's annual salary. Getting more bang for the buck goes a long way when it comes to voting for this award, and if the Marlins make the playoffs, Girardi should be a slam dunk. When asked about the Mets' sizable payroll hurting his chances, Randolph took exception to that being a factor in the debate.
"Sometimes it’s tougher to manage a club like that, when you have egos, talent, and injuries come into play," Randolph said. "A lot of intangibles come into play that you don’t even know about."
So what do you think? Who's the better manager this season?

When Willie Randolph refers to Egos perhaps he is referring to Dave Winfield.
He single handedly held the Yankees under water for a decade. But yet he is in the hall of fame. I have a good choice for MANAGER OF THE YEAR, it is Girardi. Another former Yankee. He will win the award then turn to Jeffrey Luria and tell the freako art collector to screw himself!
Nobody likes a pimp.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA !!!!!
Met got schooled by the fish. Lets all hope they don't take the same taxi cab that Duaner Sanchez used to go back to their hotel and the nightclubs. What a bunch of ego manaiacs.
Marlins will pan fry them like a trout in the playoffs.
I think that the job Willie has done is remarkable. He is doing it in NY under the microscope of the press and the demanding fans while learning on the job. The whole time it was with great expectations because of the cast Omar assembled. Joe Torre failed here miserably with the Mets and had to go low pressure towns to learn to manange before coming back to succeed the with Yanks. This Met team goes about business with a professionalism that is a clear reflection of Willie. No one saw this kind of success this early. Sure he makes in game errors, but on the whole he has done a great job because there is a lot more to managing then game management. Girardi has done a great job as well, but he has been in a can't lose situation, no one expected anything from the Marlins. Maybe it should be a tie!
hey his name is willie the dumb need i say more. he is a third rate manager with talent.he will be exposed in the post season
Bob: No exposure last night.
Willie flat out-managed our latest genius Joe Girardi.
With his season on the line,
Girardi leaves in the lefty who had nothing left rather than have Borowski get a six out save. He then brings in Borowski when the team is behing and that blows up, and jeopardizes their pen for this evening.
Bad, bad game management by Girardi.
In contrast, Willie keeps it simple and let Oliver Perez stay in and then turn it over to the superior bull pen.
Man... you guys are a bunch of whiney Yankee fans huh? Get over it, Randolph has done a great job. Great talent doesn't lead to success all the time, it takes good management. Randolph will win. Oh yeah Frank d. your pobably the only Red Sox fan left so give up for another 80 years.
I was listening to the MLBTV broadcast of last night game. The Marlins announcers kept complaining that Girardi did not pinch hit Jacobs for Olivo in the 8th. Their comment was if you don't use him here you certainly can't bring him use him in the 9th against Wagner. They were also surprised that he used a guy with only 2 ML AB in the 9th against Wags. The repeatedly gave praise to Willie's moves. I contend that there is more than in game mgmt to see a managers success. The Mets could have given up last night, 15+ game lead who cares? They did that is why they came back. And that is a reflection of how Willie played, manages and expects his players to play. I think he is Mgr of the Yr
Bob, are you posting as Ben Franklin now ? How pathetic, are you running out of fake names ? Why don't you try- bingo brain bob.
Oh and FYI the Red Sox blow, Bob.
Mets will celebrate a World Series this year, not Yankless.
Sane Met Fan: I agree with you and you are right on the money as usual. Willie has kept a great locker room in addition to your good points. He also has set up the bullpen. What team has better than this:
6th inning: Bradford
7th inning: Hernandez, Mota
8th inning: Heilman
9th inning: Wagner
willie is a good manager this season but joe torie is the best and the yankees are the better team and the best team in the world and universe i hope the mets make it to the world series this year but who is gonig to be right behind them oh yea its the yankees and the yankees are going to kick the mets ass in the subway world series this year no fur questions
well, I can see that max doesn't know the English language in addition to his all-out scare of playing the Mets in the post season. Anybody who rages on the way he does is advertising his scare.
Joe T. has done a good job, but Willie brought the Mets PAST their expectations for this year. He gets manger of the year. John and Sane Mets Fan know what they are talking about.
Yankee fans - go to your own blog to spread your bad karma.
JOE TORRE AND WILLIE BOTH SUCK. WILLIE MANAGES IN A WEAK LEAGUE AND TORRE HAS AN ALL-STAR TEAM AND THE NY MEDIA TO HYPE HIM.JOE WILL LAST BECAUSE OF THE TALENT-WILLIE WILL BE GONE AFTER NEXT YEAR BECAUSE AFTER REYES AND WRIGHT AND TO A LESSER EXTENT BELTRAN THE METS ARE OLD AND HAVE NO PITCHING. WILLIE INSTEAD OF OMAR WILL BE THROWN UNDER THE BUS.BUT FAST FREDDY GETS HIS NETWORK AND THE NEW STADIUM AND THE FANS SUFFER FOR THE NEXT 20 YEARS.
Yankees fans:
Joe Girardi is a Cub. He played for the Cubs for seven years. He played for the Yankees for only four years.
But Girardi deserves manager of the year just as the Phillies' Howard deserves MVP.
There this nonsense about managers having to control egos on star-studded lineups. This is about as meaningful as people who talk about the run support bad pitchers like Trascel get: utterly meaningless.
