What a week it's been for Paul Lo Duca. Turns out the news of his pending divorce, which first broke on Monday, was only the tip of the iceberg. From there, it's degenerated to become a sordid tale involving a 19-year-old girlfriend, alleged gambling debts and one very angry soon-to-be ex-wife back in San Antonio. Oh, and there's been plenty of pictures, too. The former Mrs. Lo Duca is a Playboy alum and the girlfriend, well, she apparently has a few fun photos lying around as well.
Anyway, here's what happened today. The Mets' latest attempt to shield their All-Star catcher is two-sentence statement that claims Lo Duca is in the clear as far as the commissioner's office is concerned. Here it is:
"We have talked to Major League Baseball and they have expressed no concern of any violation of any Major League Baseball rule regarding Paul Lo Duca. Right now we urge Paul to focus on baseball and we support him through this difficult period in his life."
There you have it.

Newsday, surely there is something better that your sports columnists can cover than Paul Lo Duca's marital problems? First you have that hack Bob Herzog make moronic comments that he hides from and refuses to back up, and now you zero in on Lo Duca's personal life. Perhaps it's jealpousy; after all, none of your hack rporters and columnists are going to have anywhere near the life of Lo Duca, a guy that has a hot 34-year old Playboy model of a wife and a 19-year old hottie on the side. Why you gotta be hatin'?
Maybe the Mets should ask Lo Duca's wife Sonia to play Mrs. Claus at this year's Christmas party !

After all the recent news stories about the current and previous Mets catchers, the bottom line is that it's good to see Lo Duca behind the plate for us and that Piazza is part of our past.
The Mets should watch who's near the on deck circle in the stands as LoDuca get ready to hit.
If they're beefy guys with sunglasses, they may be telling him their vigorish is past due.
If he has a lousy at bat he might be nervous.

Let LoDuca and LoDuca have their privacy in FAMILY COURT.....THOSE THINGS ARE PAINFUL. I believe that the additions of BOTH Preston Wilson AND Shawn Green will have a "more" significant impact on the Mets than any DIVORCE COURT "he said" "she said" baloney going on. Remember, it don't matter how much a couple loves each other....there are no pleasant divorces. A stupid example,see: Davey Johnson avoiding the 1986 Met anniversary celebrations. Maybe Davey should learn to let that go......
