This is not a shocker.
As I wrote yesterday, I thought scorekeeper Bob Webb made the wrong decision here, and that MLB should overturn it. But not eveyone in the yakosphere _ that goes for many of the regular commenters here, too _ has agreed with me. There really hasn't been a clamoring for CC to get his no-hitter.
The Scoring Review Committee is supposed to make these evaluations in a vacuum, and to not worry about the ramifications. But they're human like the rest of us. It would be understandable if they raised the bar on this one, realizing what overturning the call would mean.
In any case, this will be all the more incentive for Sabathia to stay in the National League this winter. He's far more likely to get his no-no in the NL than if he returns to the American League.
(And yes, that last paragraph was just a trap laid for Dennis. Let's see if Dennis bites.)

Outside of Tom Seaver's near-perfect game against the Cubs in '69, is there a more celebrated one-hitter in folks' memories? The extra attention that this one-hitter received will only enhance CC's value.
Again, an official scorer screw-up never hurts a team, only the stats of a player. Compare with an umpire's blown call, which can -- and has -- cost many a team a win, even a World Series. Accordingly, let's get instant replay right first.
The way the instant replay is set-up if they could overrule calls on close on-field plays games would never end. Better they just do it for disputed HR's. These things are gonna take at least five minutes to review and call as is.
But I bet TV wants it, imagine how many more Budweiser commercials that they could fit into a game with timeouts for replay/reviews?
We could sponsor the replays - brought to you by some Alzheiner drug? The offical drug of official scorers?
Sandy, I don't disagree, although how much time did the Delgado HR/foul-ball screw-up take, considering that there was no replay in place?
Speaking of premier southpaws, I watched Cole Hamels pitch a great game last night, albeit against the hapless Nats. Now I understand that he will pitch on four days' rest and go head-to-head with Johan on Sunday night. Apparently, he's 8-2 with a 2.47 ERA this season on four days' rest this season.
No surprise that baseball did not overturn the official scorer's call. So no no-hitter for Sabathia, just a one-hitter. As I said before, If the Yanks offer the most money to Sabathia, it would be interesting to see if Sabathia turns it down or not. Were know for sure if Sabathia cares about pitching on the west coast or for the most money.
Dennis - maybe Sabathia will go to Denver like Hampton...you know, for the schools.
MLB made the right call....
Back from driving in the car with the game on the radio. Is there a worst trip in the Big Leagues then going from Tampa to Seattle....?
BTW has anyone realized that the NFL has evolved their replay period into a commercial timeout and usually when we come back from it the referee is already on the field waiting for the signal from the booth to make his call? This is from a group who wanted their replay decisions done in 90 seconds or less. And hw many get done in that time?
Maybe this committee can also review HOF selections? (Just kidding!).
Sandy, I have notice that when I'm watching a NFL game. At the start, the TV networks would stay for the entired review of replay. I would say when they sign their new TV contract with CBS, FOX, NBC and ESPN, they started to go to a commerical timeout during the replay review. In college, the referee doesn't have the final say and its up the replay official upstairs to determined the call on the field. College football doesn't take as long with replay and the referee doesn't have a motional to look at.
Guys, guys, guys! How often is there going to be a review on a home-run call? Once every 20 games? 25? 30? Comparing MLB's instant replay regimen, as it is being rolled out, with the NFL helps demonstrate why football has no soul and seems completely contrived. If we start seeing two or three replays every MLB game, then it's time to abandon ship. Not until then!
Now can the Brewers go back to winning the wild card and/or making the playoffs before the Phillies pass them?
Gerry, the only worse possible trip, I believe, is Miami to Seattle. I believe the Expos might have had San Juan to Seattle (or the other way around), back in the day...
I agree with JE. The doomsday scenarios on replay are the products of your imaginations gone wild.
No, the worst trip is coming BACK from Seattle to the East Coast or even the Midwest..
Not that I love Seattle, but the time change when added to the charter flight that leaves around 1 am and arrives in the late morning - and to then play a game the next day...aaargh
We know replay was going to be used at some point. And whoever thunk it that it was A-Rod who is the player that is involve in the first used of replay in Major League Baseball history. Go figure.
Dennis, tonight was only the first-ever league-SANCTIONED replay! Didn't umpire Brian (or was it Phil?) Runge use an unauthorized use of replay in Dolphins Stadium a few years ago, for which he subsequently apologized and, if I am not mistaken, was fined?
It was Frank Pulli, JE.

Ah, thanks for the correction. That event happened nine years ago?!? Wow, even more evidence that time just flies by....
JE, you are dead on with everything you said. Calls that are debatable were always debated by the manager anyways. So how much extra time are they really adding? In some cases, they can actually save time. (I hope Bob didn't just read that bc if he did he's going to say something snarky to me!) Also, like you said, its not going to come into play all that often.
Sandy, I'll probably say this in Kens next blog since you may not read this, but sorry for misinterpiting you. I'd say its pathetic that they only get 9,000 viewers. Really pathetic. But its a new team that has only lost.
Dennis, I think CC will go where the biggest bidder is as well. And Ken (I may ask you this in another blog in case you dont see this) but is it possible CC wants the media to put the West Coast bias out there to drive up the price from Boston and the Yankees?? Like, guys if you really want him, you're going to have to show us the money because CC will play in LA for less??
That is definitely possible. Richie. It certainly can't hurt CC's bargaining power. But I'm confident that the people who told me this, did not tell me just to make CC money. They told me, I think, because they were just trying to help me get the story right.
