In response to rampant media speculation, the U.S. attorney in Manhattan, Michael Garcia, has just released a statement regarding the resignation of Eliot Spitzer.

"There is no agreement between this Office and Governor Eliot Spitzer, relating to his resignation or any other matter," Garcia said.

There had been reports that Spitzer was in talks with prosecutors from the Southern District of New York about whether he might resign as part of a plea deal. But if that's true, there is no deal yet in place. And since Spitzer has just tossed in perhaps his greatest bargaining chip, there may be no deal in the offing, at least for now.

As noted below, Spitzer entered the room where he announced his resignation accompanied not only by his wife, Silda, but his lawyers, including the high-powered criminal defense attorney Ted Wells. Sometimes the most value a skilled defense lawyer can have is in warding off an indictment before one ever comes.

Wells will be working overtime.

Spitzer is fortunate he is independently wealthy.

Be careful who you step on on your way up, because you might need those people on the way down. Do they teach that lesson at Hahvuhd?

hmmm another high official that will get a 'pass' for breaking a law he wrote or upheld.

Just like ex-Congressman who WROTE the Child Welfare Laws, Foley who sent illicit emails to an underage teen, his home computer was never seized and he has gotten off scott free.

I am assuming this man, who was so righteous in our face with his pious fighting against prostitution got his hand caught in the proverbial cookie jar, will go free and clear.

No Sex Registry for Spiter...

"BREATHTAKING ABUSE OF THE CONSTITUTION"

OKAY NO DEAL! UNSEAL THE GRAND JURY TESTIMONIES AND THE GRAND JURY SUBPOENAS AND WHAT THE SUBPOENAS WERE FOR, WHO THEY WERE FOR. UNSEAL THE "WIRETAPS" IN A FEDERAL BUILDING. WHO, WHAT AND WHEN.

OKAY NO DEAL! LETS HEAR FROM #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8 AND #10 IN THE FEDERAL INDICTMENTS.

LETS DO THIS AT "VITTER PARK" OR "CRAIG STALL" YOU PICK THE STATE. HECK FOLEY CAN OPEN THE "GRAND JURY SEAL" AND DO THE TIME FOR UNSEALING GRAND JURY TESTIMONY.

"BREATHTAKING ABUSE OF THE CONSTITUTION" NEW TIMES ACROSS AMERICA! DEFINITELY A MUST READ.

Now if Spizer had merely done a little foot tapping in the men's room he's still be in office.

This is a proud day for America.

Back in the old days a guy spending big bucks on a prostitute in the Mayflower...say Jack Kennedy...wouldn't have even been reported.

These days the rich pol with his high priced escort gets busted and the foot tapping Senator goes free.

That's progress.

We don't want budget busters to stay in office!

How come Sen. Vitter (R-LA) hasn't resigned yet, but Republic Party losers scream for the resignation for Spitzer?

Speaking of power hungry gov't officials caught with their pants down:
