The Swamp

by James Kimberly

Today,Sen. Barack Obama became the first Democratic presidential candidate to weigh in on the battle over a Planned Parenthood clinic in Aurora.

Not surprisingly, the abortion rights supporter from Illinois said he would like to see the clinic open soon.

"I fully support Planned Parenthood's desire to open a new facility in Aurora," he said in a statement released this afternoon. "The proposed center will serve the growing population in a part of the state where access to a full range of reproductive health care services is lacking."

The statement went on to list some of the services the Planned Parenthood clinic would offer such as pap tests, contraceptive care, cancer screening and breast exams. It did not mention abortion procedures, which have drawn thousands of anti-abortion protesters to demonstrate outside the clinic.

Planned Parenthood built the $7.5 million, 22,000-square-foot clinic near New York Street and Oakhurst Drive on Aurora's east side this year and intended to open it Sept. 18. The City of Aurora has refused to grant Planned Parenthood an occupancy permit for the building until the city completes and independent investigation of how Planned Parenthood obtained building permits.

Planned Parenthood applied for the permits under the name Gemini Office Development, LLC, a subsidiary. Planned Parenthood said it applied under the Gemini name so as not to tip of anti-abortion protesters to the project. Some Aurora officials have accused Planned Parenthood of committing fraud.

"I hope the investigation by city officials into the permit process can be concluded as quickly and fairly as possible, so that this important facility can begin its operations," Obama said.

City spokeswoman Carie Anne Ergo said the independent investigations into the permitting process should be completed early next week.

Obama has a relationship with Aurora. When Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner ran for office in 2005, Obama came to town and campaigned on his behalf.

Obama also has a relationship with Planned Parenthood. In July, Obama, Sen. Hillary Clinton, and Elizabeth Edwards, wife of John Edwards, address the political arm of Planned Parenthood, according to the political Web site, TheHill.com.

Obama doesn't have the courage, or the honesty, to mention the word "abortion" in his statement.

Why does that come as no surprise?

Of course he backs it.

IT'S LEGAL!!!!!
Not only is it legal, it's favorable among the majority of Americans.

I do have to LOL at the blind sheep that vote for Republicans by default simply because of the abortion issue - even if they personally don't stand to gain from electing a Republican.

Funny how it's been 30 years and the law remains...

Bruce,

B-but he's a breath of fresh air...

I do not understand abortion. A mother's instinct is to protect her unborn. How evil have we become that we are no longer willing to protect the unborn?

It is sad to say that the most dangerous place for a child to be in the USA is isnide it's mother's womb.

Barack 'Hussein' Obama has the same view of an un-born living fetus as the other'Hussein'once did.

And he claims he's a Christian? Nope...he only kneels, panders and says prayers to the Liberal Agenda.
Sick...Sick...Sick...

Senator Obama wants to provide health care and choice to the people of Aurora.

Why does RNC Bruce hate women?

Bruce...its because 95% of what they do is NOT abortion. It is the family planning, pre-natal care, and women's health services that make up the rest. If you want to make a difference, be quiet and let them reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies.

Obama is a stand up guy. No one else comes close to his moral fiber.

Allardice,
The top FOUR Republicant Party Presidential candidates (Giuliani, Romney, Thompson, McCain) don't have the courage to stand up and "debate" in front of American minorities (Black, Hispanic etc.)

That's pathetic especially when they all claim that they want to be the President of ALL of America.

Bruce

He didn't did he?

Why should he?
His ideas differ from yours! He likes women to make their own decision.
So like: IF you don't want an abortion don't have one!
Deal with it!

God loves LIFE!

No one and I mean No one should deny a woman's right to decide about her reproductive options.

All republican candidates for their party combined can't come-up with enough courage to total half of what Obama has.

His statement would be laughable if it didnt concern the life of so many innocent unborn babies!
"The proposed center will serve the growing population in a part of the state where access to a full range of reproductive health care services is lacking."
Does he not even realize, being from Illinois, that this is the 5th planned parenthood facility in the same county?
Some are now calling DuPage county the abortion capital, not only of Illinois but of the U.S.!

Obama's advisers should have tackled him before he entered the abortion clinic fray. He can only lose on this issue, he can't win without alienating a lot of Democrat and Republican voters. For example, a Zogby poll showed, "Some 68 percent of Republicans agreed with the statement that abortion 'destroys a human life and is manslaughter' while 43 percent of Democrats in the U.S. also agreed." Obama's inexperience in dealing with critical issues shows itself over and over. And it's too bad, because he definitely is the ABC (anyone but Clinton) candidate.

This is one more reason for the black community to support the Republican Party, or even Green party, or Socialist party. Because Senator Barrack Obama is a "white man covered in milk chocalate." Too many Negro women have committed abortions, so why would a "sell-out Negro, milk chocolate covered, conservative white man,"like the muslim Senator Barrack Obama, who Arabics state that he is a cousin of Osama bin Laden, pretend to be for Black Americans?

A Truth Seeker | September 28, 2007 11:56 PM

...are two excellent example of why Obama very carefully avoided specifically mentioning abortion. He wants "me" to rest assured that he'll do nothing curtail legal abortion; but he doesn't want to scare "A Truth Seeker" (who's vote he has been actively courting). So he skipped around the word like it is dogpoop on the sidewalk.

That's called "a fresh approach to politics".

Truth seeker - "Some are calling Dupage county the abortion capitol of ...the US."

Could you please let us know who the "some" are that are making this ridiculous statement? Or are the "some" just you making things up?

Please post the Metra bus schedule showing how poor women in Aurora can take buses to Schaumburg, Downers Grove, or downtown Chicago to obtain health services.

St. Edwards hospital in Naperville won't see them because there's no money in providing health services to poor women.

Planned Parenthood does NOT provide prenatal services.

The religioso as usual think they are the only ones having the correct opinion and use a book of fairy tales to prove it. The pro-lifers want to make their Dogma my Karma

If you don't want an abortion don't have it. No one is forcing anybody.

If you think that an abortion is killing a human being why do most of you support a war where largely innocent people, get killed by the hunderd thousands.
You can't be pro life and pro war.

Slime the agony of water

see http://www.openlineblog.com for a full review of what is going on at Aurora's Ground Zero and more on the Obama connection with the City of Aurora.

It seems there is likely more to why Obama is doing this than simply about abortion. It has to do with his advisor who got a lobbyist deal with the City of Aurora.

FYI, the most dangerous place for a child in the US is NOT the womb. The infant mortality in the US is nearly 40% higher than the abortion rate [as of 2000, the most recent year with data] see www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/ss5212a1.htm and
mchb.hrsa.gov/whusa02/Page_54.htm) and the abortion rate in the US is less half the abortion rate worldwide.

Reproductive options for women should not include killing the baby that is already growing within her body. And that is what exactly what happens during an abortion. I realize that we as a society have legalized abortion, but it is because society has believed the lie that until the baby is born it is not alive, is of no value. Reproductive options should be something that have been considered before a baby has been conceived. There are many options available to men and women who do not want to get pregnant. And in the case of rape and incest. A baby has the same right to life just like the mother does. Choice should include the baby's right to choose life over death. And pro-life people are choosing to speak for the life of the unborn because no one else is. In fact being pro-abortion you have already made that choice for the baby, death....because it is unwanted by the mother, conceived in an unwanted manner, inconvenient to have at this time in the mother's life. Many choices for the mother, but only for the baby, life or death.
To link abortion to the war by saying you can't be pro-life and in favor of the war is a long shot. I don't know any pro-life person who thinks the killing of soldiers is okay either. But,men and women choose to enter the service with the knowledge that war is possible, and along with that possiblity may come death. They do not choose to enter the service to protect our country without knowing that. These men and women have the choice not to enter the service if they do not want to risk that. The key word being choice. I am thankfull to my family members and those through out the history of the United States who have bravely done so, so that you and I can voice our opinion on whatever issue we choose. A baby however, has no voice, no out if it's mother chooses to end it's life before birth. Murder is murder anyway you look at it pre-born or after birth. If you are pro-choice, why don't you consider the life of the baby in your choice? Why don't you choose to let someone else raise it, love it? A baby may be an inconvenience in the life of the mother or maybe even not wanted because of the circumstances in which it was conceived, but why should the baby be murdered for the choice it's mother and father make? If you think it is okay for the mother to murder her baby one minute before it enters the world through the birth process, what if she decides one minute after the baby enters the world to murder it? Because she is scared or tired or just doesn't want to be a mother anymore. There are mothers in prison right now because they killed their children when they were one, two, te, 12 years old. What a differnce on minute makes, one is legal and the other is not. And by the way, I live in Aurora and work in health care, Planned Parenthood is entering an area where there are already options for un-insured and under-insured people of every ethnic background and financial status. Don't believe the lies, a facility that has installed 13 recovery rooms, is not just interested in providing mammograms and pap smears, and birth control, they are planning to assist women in using abortion as their form of birth control. There are many poor, un-insured, under-insured minority women in this area and Planned Parenthood plans on preying on them during their time of need. Pro-life people will be there to help them, love them and care for them, even if they choose abortion.

Who can disagree with "bikerchick?" She's spot on. Abortion is nothing more nor less than the birth control of last resort. Would a woman who espouses the right of a woman to have an abortion have agreed that her own mother would have had the same right to have aborted her? When are the pro-abortion women going to stand up and admit that they and their "sisters" are just not willing to stand up to the responsibilities which all adult humans must accept?

I don't even know where to begin. In some ways it's easy to argue with someone like bikerchick (despite what Dum Dum says) because so many of the things she said are either untrue or incorrect or a quite a stretch.. On the other hand, it's very difficult to argue with someone who has such a disregard for facts.

"I realize that we as a society have legalized abortion, but it is because society has believed the lie that until the baby is born it is not alive, is of no value."
Okay, first, society did not legalize abortion, the Supreme Court did, and not for the reason you suggest. And actually, if you look at the countries with the lowest abortion rates (Sweden and the Netherlands), abortion is legal there. In Sweden, it's even free of charge. And abortion rates today are the same as they were in the 1920's, before Roe. The major difference is that more women died from abortions when they were illegal.

"Reproductive options should be something that have been considered before a baby has been conceived. There are many options available to men and women who do not want to get pregnant."
We are definitely in agreement on this point. What you might not realize is that many in the prolife movement disagree with you. There is not a single prolife group in the US that supports the use of contraception. National Right to Life has no position on contraception; others openly oppose it. And while it would be nice to think that the rest of the country who don't feel this way are able to make informed decisions about their fertility control, unfortunately not everyone knows about the range of options, or how effective they are. Why not? Two words: Abstinence Only. The distortions in these (federally funded) programs are mind-boggling. Go to siecus.org for more information on them.

"Choice should include the baby's right to choose life over death."
This is like saying that a miscarriage is the result of a suicidal fetus. Absolutely ridiculous. Babies don't start making 'choices' of any kind until a long time after they're born, and when they do, it's not about life and death. Until then they are wholly instinctual, entirely ruled by their physical needs - food, changing, sleep, warmth, etc. I'm not saying that makes a baby a less valuable life, but the idea that the 'choice' made by a mass of cells is equal to that of a full grown woman faced with a difficult decision is extremely insulting.

"In fact being pro-abortion you have already made that choice for the baby, death...."
No one is "pro-abortion". This is a total BS term. I'm refraining from using the term 'forced-pregnancy advocate' to describe you, and that's way more accurate than suggesting that someone who respects women enough to say 'your pregnancy is none of my business and I trust you to make the best decision' is actually saying 'you really should just abort, it's the best decision for you'.

"Many choices for the mother, but only for the baby, life or death."
I count 3: Motherhood, Adoption, Abortion. Am I missing some? And by the way, the leading cause of death for pregnant women is homicide. So let's not pretend that women who choose pregnancy will all live happily ever after;

"If you think it is okay for the mother to murder her baby one minute before it enters the world through the birth process, what if she decides one minute after the baby enters the world to murder it? . . .What a differnce on minute makes, one is legal and the other is not."
WOW. I'm almost speechless. Where do people get these ideas? What woman goes through 9 months of a pregnancy, several hours of labor and then decides to abort? And what doctor would participate? Most states have restrictions on when you can have an abortion - the earliest is NC, where it is illegal after 20 weeks. In IL an abortion must take place before viability unless the mother's health or life are endangered. The situation you describe is nothing but a nonsense hypothetical created by the radical right to paint a picture of women who choose abortions as heartless sociopaths. And I agree with the IL restrictions, by the way.

"Because she is scared or tired or just doesn't want to be a mother anymore."
61% of women who have abortions are mothers already.

"Don't believe the lies, a facility that has installed 13 recovery rooms, is not just interested in providing mammograms and pap smears, and birth control, they are planning to assist women in using abortion as their form of birth control."
PP also performs tubal ligations and vasectomies, which sometimes involve general anesthesia, and will therefore require some amount of recovery time before the patient can leave the facility.

"Pro-life people will be there to help them, love them and care for them, even if they choose abortion."
Aww, how warm and fuzzy. Will that be before or after they harrass and intimidate her on her way into the clinic for a pregnancy test? How does yelling BABY KILLER at a woman translate into help, love and care? And don't get me started on "Crisis Pregnancy Centers". Pro-choice activists stand with these women, walk them through throngs of screaming, potentially violent people, and help them choose a better form of birth control, work to make sure it's affordable and ensure they get access to it so they don't have to have another abortion. Stop pretending that your side has a monopoly on help, love and care - it's just not true.

oh, and Dum Dum? About this:
"Would a woman who espouses the right of a woman to have an abortion have agreed that her own mother would have had the same right to have aborted her?"
YES I WOULD. I love and respect my Mom, and I would trust her completely to make the best decision. She chose to have me - and knowing that makes me feel incredibly loved and wanted.

I just want to point out that we shouldn't even debate abortion until we make the men and boys take responsibility for their part in this whole pregnancy thing. If we made men pay child support like they are supposed to, and be involved in their children's life then maybe they would change their mind about this whole abortion debate. Let's tell the boys who get girls pregnant that they have to drop out of school to care for thier babies too. Lets tell them that they have to keep thier children for at least half of the time. Lets tell them that they have to actually pay the child support they are supposed to pay and see what they think. Adoption you say...easy to say when you are not the one who carried the baby in your belly for 9 months!

Amen Violet!!

What of the Holocaust against Black preborn babies, Mr. Obama?

A higher percentage of black girls' womens' pregnancies are ending in the child aborted than any other ethnic racial group.

And what is Planned Parenthood's self justification? Lots of girls, women are POOR UNEDUCATED...

Nothing like killing the kid...Easier than helping retrain the mom...Much easier than educating all of us about the "death and destruction" that happens when people sleep around...and when men (boys) do NOT step in to take responsibility for their kids.

There are big billboards in NW Indiana and now this "Nations Largest" clinic in Aurora.

Planned Parenthood touts its "other" services but that's like saying the lumber sawmill "also" sells nails. The big task (and the big $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ maker) is taking advantage of desperate girls and women by getting them to kill off their kid.

This clinic is 2 blocks away from my house. Now I can go to bed every night thinking about how many babies were killed that day.

Thanks for backing that up, Obams.

I am completely disgusted.

It's amazing how Americans can disguise KILLING BABIES by calling it "women's rights". Like it's justified then.

im not n 2 this stuff im just reading it for skool.... hehe

Yes it legal. How was that achieved? Would the science of 2008 support what the science of 1970 decided.
I am pro choice. I choose life.
Can we make it a real choice? Let's get a hat, some pieces of paper, and have a drawing. Put the unborn baby's name, the doctor's name, a few nurses, the mother/father, Obabma, and last but not least, a few of the pro-death morons from above. Now the baby has a chance and it would seem to be a real choice. All in favor?
A women made her choice when she opened her legs.
Rape and incest? Kill the baby?Lets kill the rapist instead.

The big difference between the pro Life and pro choice camps: Pro Life people want others to comply with their view of what should happen. Pro choice people want the right for everyone to make up their own mind.

Fetuses are not 'pre born babies'. For the first few months they don't even have a brain woth talking about. No brain = no suffering. It would be easier to take pro-life concerns seriously if they also argued strongly in favor of contraception and so on, but the fact is that they don't. As can be seen from many of the comments here, their unspoken assumption is that sex is dirty and shameful, and they justify this view by pointing to their religious book. None of these people are willing to think for themselves or make moral decisions - true moral decisions are the ones made without reference to a book or a code of practice, but looking into your own heart and deciding what is right, rather than simply complying with someone else's decision.

The pro-choice agenda is always keep the argument about the rights of the mother, privacy of the mother, or health of the mother. Somehow those trump the rights, privacy and health of the human being that is being destroyed by abortion.

It's silly of all of you "pro-choice" believers to pretend that you don't know/believe that abortion doesn't kill the life of a human. It's an indefensible argument to claim otherwise.

Slave owners and Nazis also justified their crimes against humanity by claiming their victims weren't (fully) human.
At least be as honest as the people I know who will tell you to your face that abortion is in their mind a viable population control.

Now I am not saying that pro-choice people are to be equated with Nazis or slave owners. But when one uses the same mode of argumental defense, should it not make you question your motives and practices?

Liberals love to trumpet the evils of BIG BUSINESS. What about the billion dollar a year pro-choice BIG BUSINESS named "Planned Parenthood". Why are they so righteous? Shouldn't we be scrutinizing their business practices as tightly or even more so than other BIG BUSINESS because of the gravity of the work that they do?

"We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social-service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don't want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population. and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members."
Margaret Sanger's December 19, 1939 letter to Dr. Clarence Gamble, 255 Adams Street, Milton, Massachusetts. Original source: Sophia Smith Collection, Smith College, North Hampton, Massachusetts. Also described in Linda Gordon's Woman's Body, Woman's Right: A Social History of Birth Control in America. New York: Grossman Publishers, 1976.

They managed to sign up Dr. King by giving him the first Margaret Sanger award and now they got Obama hook line and sinker.

Remember the number 1452...that's the number of black babies that will be aborted today and every work day. Margaret Sanger's plan to eliminate the "Negro" race is working. When will it stop!?
