I'll be very curious to see if Mr. Bendavid discusses Rahm's taking credit for the 2006 election, despite overwhelming evidence that it was Howard Dean's 50 state strategy that delivered.
Good luck Mr. Bendavid. Here's hoping it's a good read. You've got some interesting characters to work with.

I do talk in the book about the relative credit due Rahm Emanuel and Howard Dean.

Dean supporters argue that it was his 50-state strategy that was responsible for the Democrats' victory. By placing activists and putting money into states the Democrats did not traditionally win, the argument goes, they enabled the party to pick up seats in places like Indiana and Kentucky.

Emanuel's supporters counter that it was his aggressive recruitment of moderate candidates, like Heath Shuler in North Carolina and Brad Ellsworth in Indiana, that led the Democrats to victory. For too long the party insisted on an ideological orthodoxy that resulted in purist nominees who got clobbered, according to this way of thinking.

I do think it's not entirely reasonable to have someone in charge of an election and then, when the election turns out well, argue that he had nothing to do with it. Emanuel was in essence the campaign manager, and saying he does not deserve the credit doesn't make that much sense to me.

But more broadly, as I say in the book, I think it's clear that both Emanuel and Dean deserve some credit.

In truth, the Republicans had more to do with their own loss than anything the Democrats did. The war in Iraq, the response to Hurricane Katrina, Tom DeLay's ethics problems, the Mark Foley scandal--those things created the climate that led to the Democratic takeover.

But the Democrats for once did a good job of positioning themselves to take advantage of the political winds, and both Emanuel and Dean helped with that. Emanuel recruited successful candidates in tough districts, raised record amounts of money, and shaped a resonant message. Dean and his operation prepared the ground in key areas, and his supporters created excitement and enthusiasm, including for some candidates Emanuel overlooked.

Is that why Rahm's "human sheild" Tammy Duckworth won?

Oh wait, she didn't.

Great strategy Rahm, hide behind Tammy's war experience to avoid debate.

"They call Tammy Duckworth a cut-and-runner when she left two legs in Iraq?" he shouts, jabbing a finger in the air, drawing stares from around the deli. "How dare they! I'm going to give them the medicine that they've been giving out. That's what shocks them."

Rahm Emanual interview.

Its a shame that Tammy was USED in that respect. The funny yet sad thing is that Rahm all but admitted it in the "finger waving" interview but doesn't realize it.

"I think it's clear that both Emanuel and Dean deserve some credit."

No quarrels with that statement. I agree completely. Rahm's fundraising prowess was critical. It should be noted that the Dems historical weakness in raising cash has been recently turned upside down. I'll give credit where it's due. Good job by Rahm in shaking the money tree.

JD, it's kind of like when you "cut and run" from your other name(John D), huh?

Just because john d. and I both think you have mental issues John E., doesn't mean we are the same poster.

There are lots of posters on both sides which share that view of you John E.

Have you figured that out yet?

Didn't think so.

OK, resume throwing up all over yourself about Karl Rove or some other generic left wing outrage.

Go NIU Huskies!

JD,
You think a smart, tough woman would allow her COMBAT injury to be used as a political prop? Why do you have such a low opinion of women?

Hey "JD", what was that you were saying about Ethanol the other day?..chirp,chirp...

OK, Jethro, so based on my post bashing Rahm Emanual you came to the conclusion that I have a low opinion of women.

Kind of explains a lot with you Jethro.

Reading and comprehending what you read is a skill Jethro.

No wonder you're so easily lead by left wing spin and folklore.

John E. I think the birds in the basement of Huskie stadium are starting to get to you.

Get some fresh air.
