9 a.m. NURSING HOMES-REPORT — Consumer Reports holds news conference on its Nursing Home Quality Monitor, a national database of facilities to choose -- or avoid.

1 p.m. WORKING WOMEN SURVEY — AFL-CIO teleconference to release preliminary results of biannual ``Ask a Working Woman’’ survey of 20,000 women. Participants include Linda Chavez-Thompson, exec-vice president of AFL-CIO, and Meagan Jeronimo, a working mother from Houston.



Aug. 7 - 10. CATHOLICS-ADL-HOLOCAUST — Catholic school educators from the mid-Atlantic region gather for four-day program on ``Bearing Witness: Anti-Semitism, The Holocaust and Contemporary Issues.’’

9:30 a.m. KATRINA-HEALTH CARE LESSONS — Medical professionals with experience in the storm-ravaged Gulf Coast speak at National Association of Community Health Centers news conference. They’ll also discuss new report ``Legacy of a Disaster: Health Centers and Hurricane Katrina, One Year Later,’’ on the role of health care immediately following such multi-state disasters.

10 a.m. SUDAN-TRADE-LAWSUIT — National Foreign Trade Council (NFTC) and five boards of Illinois public employee pension funds announce lawsuit against the state of Illinois. They’re challenging the constitutionality of the Illinois ``Act to End Terrorism and Atrocities in the Sudan.

2 p.m. ELIOT SPITZER-BOOK — American Enterprise Institute holds forum on a Washington Post reporter’s book, ``Spoiling for a Fight: The Rise of Eliot Spitzer.’’ Participants include book author Brooke A. Masters and US Court of Appeals Judge William H. Pryor Jr.

4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. LEBANON-ISRAEL-VIGIL — Amnesty International holds vigil calling for immediate ceasefire in the Lebanon/Israel Conflict.

I would love to know how many women have given their lives and energy to their children with no regard from the father who then walks away with a huge salary and pension while the women has almost nothing
