Home at last

Well, after a wild 2 weeks of politics, politics and more politics, I am finally back home in New York.
It's an amazing and exhausting experience getting up each day and frantically drawing and debating and blogging and videoing and drawing and debating and blogging some more.
Everywhere I turned I seemed to run into someone interesting from the political world. From Sam Donaldson almost knocking me over in Denver to Henry Kissinger walking past me in a bathroom in the Excel Center. I had a chance to chat with Spike Lee and Tom Brokaw, Wolf Blitzer, David Gregory and Allan Combs. I bumped into Jeb Bush and even met a Republican delegate in a bar who whispered that he was actually voting for Obama.
Weird, wild and fun.
I will certainly miss the adrenaline rush of the conventions but It is awesome to not have a deadline tonight and to be able to go out for sushi with my wife.
I hope you've all enjoyed the posts. I'm going to start working on a new animation over the weekend so stay posted.

Gone Fishing

Hi everyone ... I'll be away from the the drawing board until August 26th.

It's time for our family's annual summer vacation. Boating, camping and fishing in the Adirondack mountains. Largemouth bass, beautiful scenery, refreshingly cold water and big smiles all around. There's no better way to spend family time together.

I will resurface at The Democratic National Convention in Denver for some
on-the-spot cartooning and blogging.

I'll have a chance to see to some of my fellow editorial cartoonists, get a close look some of the politicians I doodle, and hang out with my brother Steve. Steve is a national corespondent for NBC News based in D.C. You may know him from Channel 4 in NY. Every four years we get a chance to cover the conventions together in our own separate ways. It's a real treat.

From Denver, it's directly on to The Republican National Convention in Minneapolis for another week of convention antics.

I'll be posting cartoons, rough sketches, daily musings and some videos from both conventions.

Goodbye 2007

Hi everyone,

I'll be away from my drawing board until January 2nd. Time to recharge the creative batteries and spend some sweet quality time with my amazing wife and children.

Next year will be dominated by the presidential campaigns...I can't wait!

Along with my regular daily editorial cartoons, I will be creating 12 more animations in 2008 starting with a new one in mid January after Iowa and New Hampshire.

For now, I'd like to close out 2007 by thanking all of you for visiting my blog. Since it started in the middle of November, over 9 million people have stopped in for a look and to leave some thought-provoking and often hillarious comments. Thank you so much!!!

For the next 10 days I'll be posting some of my favorites from 2007.

Enjoy and Best Wishes to all-----Walt

The Saturday Sneak Peek

My good friend, Nick Anderson, the Pulitzer prize-winning editorial cartoonist for The Houston Chronicle, has an amazing blog where he posts his daily toons and some very cool animations. When I told him I had started a blog, he graciously allowed me to glom an idea he has used for some time -- posting a piece of a cartoon as a teaser before the full toon runs.

I'll call it: "The Saturday Sneak Peek."

So here's a piece of Sunday's toon. See if you can guess what the full toon will be.

Have fun...Walt

Hello everyone and welcome to my blog.

In the first 6 days you have made this the number one blog on newsday.com.

I really appreciate the support!

I will post my daily editorial cartoons and my monthly animations here, as well as some rough sketches of cartoons and maybe a short video of an animation being created. I'm also looking into the possibility of reader cartoons and maybe even a cartoon contest in the future.

So come back often...Tell a friend...and stay tooned.
