What's funny about this? Anyone who thinks that politics are something to laugh about doesn't know what's going on in our country. Talent for laughs shouldn't be at anyone else's expense. People stop complaining about what Hillary did in college. Are you, or your views the same as they were in college? (those of us in Hillarys' age group) Mine certainly are not. I've grown, evolved, matured, and so have my views. Let's be honest. How many of us would want our future judged by our past? My dream ticket for the demos is Hillary and Obama. Say what you may about Obama, but it's my opinion there's not a better candidate out there. He's got fresh, new ideas, and not alot of political baggage, or favors owed.

Sara, I just wanted to tell you that O'bama is a member of the United Church Of Christ with are connected to the Congregational Church, the oldest Church in America. It was established by the Puritans in Mass. as soon as the Pilgrims got off the boats. By the time of the American Revolution, this separatist church was by far the most numerous and a driver of the revolt. This church has always been fussy about their members and would be unlikely to tolerate a fake.
Also, the last I heard muslims enjoy a good life too; they shouldn't be painted with a big brush. It's too bad so many people are affected by propaganda. I would like to preface that I am not a racist in any form or fashion. I am, however, American. I copied and pasted the language below directly from "Trinity United Church of Christ" website (tucc.org).

Note that in his book, Obama declared that his pastor is his mentor. How can a man running for the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA be a member of "A congregation with a non-negotiable COMMITMENT TO AFRICA. "??? Commitment? What kind of commitment? I don't see anything on the church's website welcoming anyone except blacks. Shouldn't a church's doors be wide open to share the gospel to everyone? "Make disciples of ALL nations . . ."

There's so much more about Obama that lends one to be very cautious. Thorough research on all candidates is paramount, and we are each individually responsible for forming our own conclusions. From the way things look, and from my gut wrenching, I am afraid we're all in for a terrible 5+ years as a country. If we still have our country as we know it . . .

I am a long time admirer of Obama's pastor, have taoght several miisters from his church and written about the church extensively. Dr. Wright is a brilliant and caring person who has mentored many men and women into the ministry. His church has served the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of thousands of persons on the Southside of Chicago and in the African Diaspora. To be pro-black does not mean to be anti-white, just as to be pro-Jewish is not to be anti-Muslim. This is one reason why we need to hear from diverse points of view. Perhaps one day we will take seriously the idea that a person's religion does ot disqualify him/her from opportunity in the United States. If we have trouble electing a Catholoic or Mormon will we ever elect someone who does not represent European/American Christianity? We have a long, long, long, way to go.

I have been a writer throughout my career and have participated in the construction of numerous mission statements for churches, schools, and firms. First, mission statements are usually written by committee, with words chosen as much for rhyme, attention, and memorability as for meaning. Second, they are usually negotiated more stringently than a business contract (so that everyone's ideas are included). Third, they reflect the needs of a specific group of people at a specific time in a specific place. Finally, they are generally a work in progress and rarely, if ever, are totally fulfilled.

It's classic goal setting for a group or an organization. The mission statement is often purposely ambiguous, so that a host of accomplishments can be regarded as achieving the objectives. No mission statement is meant to be held up, dissected, and scrutinized as it might relate to personal beliefs or national policy. I believe we already have an adequate mission statement, as well as a proven strategic plan, in the Constitution.

I found Sheri's assessment of the Ten-Point Vision or mission statement of United Church of Christ (key word: Christ) somewhat humorous and, yes, "scary." I'd like to respond to it point by point.

A congregation committed to ADORATION. ????? Of the Virgin Mary, of the Saints, of the Host? Certainly seems a good Catholic word, to say the least.
A congregation preaching SALVATION. I wouldn't want to be affiliated with a congregation that didn't!
A congregation actively seeking RECONCILIATION. To the word of God? To past differences? To previous hatreds?

A congregation working towards ECONOMIC PARITY. How?? On this last point I agree with Sheri. Economic parity is not only a "vision" that will never be realized, but it also has no place in the mission statement of a religious organization. You may call this radical, if you like!

SHAME ON OBAMA

There is no question Obama was cheating during last night's debate, casting endless peeks at Hillary's notes. The heart-breaker for me is that it wasn't the first time.

If you happened to have recorded the first debate between them, go back and review it. You'll see he even set her up by seating her in the middle (pulled out a chair where he wanted her to sit), knowing how often her head would be turned away from him, toward the moderators. He knew this would give him ample opportunity to peek at her notes, but even if this act wasn't premeditated, the fact that he took advantage of his opportunities to peek at her notes is abhorrent.

In the first debate he only did this a few times and then briefly, but at last night's debate, especially toward the end, the act was embarrassingly overt. He obviously believed he had developed the means for cheating without being caught. If you watch closely, he partially closes his eyelids in the process, perhaps believing that if you can't see his eyes (which you can't) it can never be "proved" that he's cheating. But some things are just evident. Even if you don't want to believe them (and I don't), they're there, right in front of you, undeniable.

The most convincing evidence occurs after he peeks each time, when he immediately turns to his own notepad and records his findings. That's even scarier than the peeking because it suggests he's unable to remember what's he read only a few moments earlier.

If you watch both debates you can see when he's about to peek. There's a lowering of his head into a strange position. This doesn't occur one time when he's looking straight forward or to his right....only when he's facing left. This is not imagined. It's there, on video, for anyone who cares enough to prove it to themselves.

Aside from how unbecoming it is of a candidate for president of the United States to cheat (we all remember the Bush debate in which he appears to have some strange square-shaped, transmitter-like object poking out from the back side of his coat), Obama's cheating is down right classless. And frightening.

Whose notes is he going to cheat from when he's in the Oval Office?

I'm wrecked by this. I was solidly in Obama's corner. His actions suggest he is unable to think quickly on his feet and is an act devoid of confidence. Whatever his reason for cheating -- and make no mistake about it, he did, at least 10 times -- the act is demoralizing to anyone who has supported him in the belief that "change is coming." He vaporized that belief last night.

And now, coupled with recent accusations that he has plagiarized material from yet someone else, one has to wonder who Obama really is.

Finally, there are those 130 roll calls he attended but at which he didn't vote. Now I'm worried about what this might have meant as well. Was he simply unable to make up his mind then, too? He had an opportunity then to establish a profile for the change he wants me to believe in now. Why didn't he?

Our next president will inherit a world in utter chaos. There are no cheat notes for how to fix it.

--Obama is cheating?...first I've watched every debate in their entirety and have never noticed anything of the sort. The candidates don't pick their chairs, they are assigned. And finally their note pads are for points that they want to remember to bring up (example one candidate attacks the other's positions and the attackee wants to remember to come back to those points)....so even for the sake of argument he did look at her note all he would see is what she wants to say...hardly cheating since she wil be saying it soon enough.

--Obama's religion...First he was Muslim now he's and African lover...I mean, come ON people...Hillary apparently attends Congressional prayer services with Sam Browmback, I doubt that any would mistake her for a conservative, Bible Thumping, "Do you know my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" type.

--"Kool-aid drinkers"...Every one that follows Obama is a Kool-aid drinker, but everyone who follows Huckabee, or McCain, or the Clinton's are all normal rational people? This doesn't fly for me. First everyone that I know who supports Obama is not blindly following him. Most of us like his positions (though I agree that many are the same as the Clintons), all of us like his oratory ability, and how inclusive his campaign is (there are black, white, young, old, male, female, gay, straight, rich and poor). Many of us appreciate his background (poor single parent home), and his service to our country (being elected 3 times, to Hill's 2; and his many stances on helping the poor, advancing health care in IL and also diminishing lobby power there, standing up for womens rights and other rights as well as many other accomplishments), and a couple of us even hold in high regard his ability to organize a campaign (including a strong grassroots, bottom up support, not squandering money, yet having a great ability to raise it) which alludes to how well he would run a country. (both of the other remaining major candidates have had to "loan their campaign money in some for or another...deficit spending)

Why is everyone so readily eager to give their vote to someone who has no experience. The Clinton Administration was good in many ways. We have problems in the last 8 years that have us caught between a rock and a hard spot. We just cant have a repeat of what has happened in the last (8) years. If we had a chance to go back to the Clinton Administratio there it proves to be much better than where we have been this last 8 .Yes, we all want change, but dont be so sure somethings will change with someone who lacks experience. Obama has run a feel good campaign, as a speaker, yes he is good almost similar to the sound of Martin Luther King but that doesnt guarantee that he is qualified nor experienced enough to make promises for change. I cant beleive after 8 years of looking for Osama that people are willing to give their vote to Obama for some feel good words of hope

You obviously weren't watching the same debates I was. Give me an email address where I can download a copy of both debates and you'll clearly see Obama cheating. It's overt.

I agree that Obama has been taken unfairly to task for Luo garmets worn as a young man and for a middle name he was given rather than chosen.

However, facts are facts, and Obama was cheating, period. All the love and admiration and hope you have for him won't change the fact.

I'd still vote for him over a 3rd Bush administration we'd get from McCain, I still admire his good heart and eloquence, but facts are facts and he cheated.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. Only highly educated citizens (preferably PhD) should have the right to vote. It would eliminate all the confusion created by those pesky people who actually WORK for a living. Although those commoners do come in handy when replacements are needed in Iraq or Afghanistan.(to fight the war deemed necessary by the PhDs)
