On Monday morning it seemed that the MTA came up with a new description for certain service delays. A disruption of G service was attributed to the Police Department, which has been sniping with the MTA over the need to get onto the tracks and the MTA's apparent reluctance to shut down service. From the MTA web site Monday morning:

"At the Police Departments' request, power has been removed at the Nassau Avenue Station. There is no g train service in both directions between the Bedford-Nostrand Avenues Station and the Long Island City-Court Square Station at this time.

A transit spokesman said power was back on at 10:47 am.

The Daily News has reported on the NYPD and MTA disagreement over shutting down the third rail following a purse snatching Thursday. The perp ran down the tunnel and much time passed before the power was turned off. An recent Transit policy requires permission from the top before service can be cut.

On Monday, apparently transit wanted to let riders know just who was responsible for the delays on the G train.
