Opponents of the City Council's pedicab regulation bill were visibly saddened today when the Council overturned a mayoral veto and passed the regulations into law.
By a vote of 37-6-2, the Council superceded the veto and overlooked critics who said the regulations went too far by capping the total number of padicabs citywide at 325.
"I think they are stunned," said pedicab industry lobbyist Chad Marlow of the pedicab drivers. "We are going to be talking to Consumer Affairs Committee to see just how implementation will work."
The bill has a built-in review period after 18 months and the 25 cap sunsets automatically after two years.
