During the MTA committee meetings today, transit union rep Ed Watt asked NYC Transit Prez Larry Reuter about future plans for one person train operation.
The TA has budgeted to eliminate 313 conductor positions over the next four years. By the end of the 2008, these four lines are scheduled to go OPTO: No. 7, J, M and N. Total savings of $21 million.
Of course, no lines can go OPTO until the union agrees.
"Which means we still have to talk," Reuter deadpanned to Watt prompting laughter from some of the board.
