Yes, that's the new R160 on the A line

A reader asked:

Are new trains (think L,2,3,4,5,6) now running on the A line? I was headed downtown tonight on the E and at Chambers, I spotted a train that looked like the L but was, in fact, the A headed uptown. Any official news of new trains on this line or was this a fluke? Thanks for your help in clearing up this mystery.

The answer is yes. NYC Transit started testing the new R160 -- a swankier version of the R143s found on the L -- on the A line. Unlike the older cars, the R160s have the fancy LCD screen display with a map that moves as the subway travels. Originally, it was being tested on the N line, but on Sept. 11 it started another 30 day trial period on the A.

I rode it on (A) line few times from beginning to end and between my bus/subway fan.

This R-160 service on (A) was amazing! Mt first day was northbound from Far Rockaway to Inwood, my second day, Inwood to Far Rockaway, then same day to Howard Beach. On 9-11 Day, I spotted R-160 going northbound when soutbhound R-32 A pulled out of Dyckman St and I got it on 175th St and waited until 5:11pm when it came.
Today, I was lucky after I got off Bx20 at Inwood Station.

Yes; had the pleasure of riding one two weekends ago. Nice, as long as transit;s not gonna ask for more money ;)

i really like the new trian one day i would like drive it before i become a comerical pilot
