Records are made to be broken

Photo of Falsetta by Jefferson Siegel

He’s being coy, but Michael Falsetta and Salvatore Babones, who’ve held the record since 1998, may be coming out of retirement to reclaim the unofficial world championship in comptetitive subway riding.

“Everybody told me I have to, the answer is probably,” Falsetta tells The Tracker. “We certainly aren’t going to do right away. We’ll wait till October.”

And, Falsetta took a subtle dig at the new champs.

“These guys are not real New Yorkers. We have have hometown pride. Maybe we have to do it again.”

This time around he said he could have a team of six,.

“Now everybody we know wants to come along.”

When Falsetta and Babones did it they didn’t get as much media attention. But, Falsetta has a good explanation.

“The next day the Lewinsky scandal broke.”
