Overlooked yesterday

NJ Transit awarded an $82.5 million engineering contract for the Trans Hudson Express Tunnel aka Access to the Region’s Core aka another rail tunnel between Jersey and W. 34th St.

The 18-month, $82.5 million contract was awarded to The Partnership—a joint venture of familiar MTA contractors: Parsons Brinckerhoff, STV and DMJM Harris/AECOM. The same group did design work on the WTC Path Station, JFK Airport Airtrain, East Side Access, the No. 7 extension and Second Ave. subway.

Last week the Port Authority committed $2 billion for the project.

Construction is expected to begin in 2009 and with a 2016 completion date.
