An apparent work slow down by the transit workers left ParaTransit riders fuming today.
Michael Harris, a journalism student and activist with the Disabled Rides Coalition, said only a fraction of reservationist showed up for work today. One regular ParaTransit rider said she was on hold for thirty minutes.
“There is some sort of job action causing delays, but we are handling it,” said a Transit Authority spokesperson.
TWU Local 100 represents workers at First Transit, a private company, that provides Access-A-Ride services to the TA. The union is currently in contract negotiations with First Transit.
A TWU official was unavailable for comment.
Meanwhile, ATU Local 1181 votes in an hour on whether to authorize its own strike for June 30th if it doesn’t reach a contract settlement by June 30.
