For those who were involved in the search for Vivi the whippet, calls at one point came in about her being sighted near the Queens Farm Museum in Floral Park. They were likely red herrings.
But yesterday, after sightings of a skinny yellow dog at the site, another missing dog was trapped there, bringing a measure of relief and joy to Vivi searchers who had taken on her search.
Lexi the Labrador retriever was caught in a trap that had been lent by Little Shelter and set up at the working farm in Queens. Lexi's owner, Laura, walked around the area where the trap was set with her other dog to leave their scent. The trap was filled with food.
Lexi is much the worse for wear after her adventure. She is less than half her weight -- 38 pounds, down from 80 pounds on the day she pulled away from her owner on Thanksgiving Day.
Lexi still had a collar and a portion of her leash attached. At some point, she must have gotten caught on something, and in her manuevering to get free, she pulled her collar over her front leg. The pressure from the collar created a deep wound that was seriously infected.

YEAH LEXI! It was time to come home for your Mommy. She was really missing you. I knew when I heard the sadness in Laura's voice we just had to find her baby.
Debbie and Monica (and Bonnie) thank you for following through with Lexi and getting her home. Love ya gals! Wish I could have been there helping. I would have loved to see that reunion.
Kathleen in Memphis,TN
YES YES YES... MY BABY IS SAFE... I'm still in shock. I cant thank everyone enough who helped search for her and to Bonnie who had the Idea to set that trap, jeeze who would of thought... not me that's for sure. A simple thank you just doesn't seem to be enough. How can a simple thank you be enough when these folks gave me back my life. People who know me say I look different. I have a glow, my eyes are happy. The truth is my heart and sole are complete again. I feel like ME again. A little tired but a good tired!
Lexi is doing good. She is eating, drinking and holding her own. She is expected to have surgery tomorrow. Once that is over I will feel even better. A few more days she should be back at home.. I cant even imagine. That's when the real reunion begins. Sam my Choc.Lab is going to be soooo happy. They are two peas in a pod when together.
Thank you to you all for your continued support , thoughts and prayers.
Love you all,
Laura - Lexi's mommy :-)
Laura, I'm so happy that your Lexi has been found. Soon you will have her home with you and Sam. Miracles do happen. Let us know how Lexi is coming along.
yey, Lexi!!!!!! and i thought stapling my hand when posting for her was painful. if i only knew what i was really going to do to myself... acccckkkkk (as Rooooby would say)
and - STEELERS FAN - no Green Bay for me. my Plaxico will steal the show feb. 3rd.
i MAY be getting out of my cast on or around feb. 15th. maybe Vivi will see it fit to take me out for a cold one to celebrate. let's hope she does :)
thanks for all of the good wishes, cards (some of them very interesting ((ROOOOBY)) ), and the beautiful flowers that you all have sent. again, you have lifted my spirits - i wish you all could lift this stupid leg on mine. hee...... for those who are the oldies here, my line of beer can shoes has now changed to SHOE.
Nice to see you on here Gimpy, beer can shoe how fitting, or shoe and beer can tip to cover the toes. You and lexi both hurt your paws. Good night we had posting for her and the area she was found in, hhmmm must have been an omen.
I read the update on lexi she had her surgery and they basically called her the bionic dog, new shoulder, leg and armpit with about 400 stitches, she is on 2 dewormers for parasites and much needed pain meds. She may be going home tomorrow for much needed rest and recuperation which she deserves.
Go Giants, they deserve to win.
Thank God Lexi was found. She deserves some rest and recuperation with lots of love to make it better. Miracles do happen.
KAY - You know, I think our little "Gimpy" or as Roooby would call her, "the little Polish dumpling" (Darlene) should take her Giant treats (beer, food, beer, weenies, beer, ....) over and share them with Lexi while they watch the game together. They could compare injuries, and maybe Darlene could make some special beer shoes for Lexi too! I can just bet Laura would enjoy the Superbowl party too.... Who wouldn't have fun with the Weenie crew and the Polish dumpling!
If they feel up to it, they could call me on speakerphone and we could all talk about how horrible we feel - then they could take a drink of beer and me a magarita maybe (or maybe that Nilla Vodka in honor of Ma).
Heck, we could go online with Debbie's credit card and rescue about 3 or 4 more pitties to keep Darlene happy at home - I'm sure Lunda would love some more brothers and sisters.
Love you all. You keep me smiling.
P.S. - Kathleen is not responsible for much of what she does and says right now due to high levels of vicodin keeping this pain under control. Time to go back to sleep for a while I think.
I think you have a good idea Kathleen.
What pain are you having? Have you had an accident also?
KathleenSsssssss, you stay out of my vanilla vodka! It's mine, all mine, mine...as for Debbies credit cards, they are mine, mine, mine too........
Don't tell us you tripped over your purse like Darlin' Darlene did........
Darlin' Darlene, we have missed your blah, blahing on the blog...Get well my little periogie, Debbie is being me to me...Pam is picking on me too...I have no friends.ackkkkkkkkkkk
HEY KAY AND ROOBY - Okay Roooby, you can have Debbie's credit cards (just rescue some more pitties to keep Darlene company at home please). I'll only drink the vanilla vodka from Memphis, TN! And you do have friends you silly Ruby shoes.
No, only accident I had was not taking a flu shot this year. BAD MISTAKE! I got the stuff bigtime and have missed work for almost 2 weeks now. First to the Minor Emergency where the idiot there misdiagnosed me. She gave me the wrong meds and it was slow clearing up, so now I'm on different meds, had an ER visit on Thursday 2:30 am with trouble breathing (and a breathing treatment), and now have costochondritis (severe inflammation around the lungs and the tissue) from the viral and bacterial infection and coughing so much and so hard. The whole right side was hurting so bad I almost couldn't make it to the ER. The medrol is taking the inflammation out, so now I am able to cough the pockets on the right side up (and it hurts like hell). Maybe soon I will be back to normal again - sure hope so. Until then, vicodin and lots of sleep are my best friends right now. Dogs love it though. Three little snuggle bunnies....
Kathleen, take all your meds and get lots of rest. Is someone there who can help you and your furry babies, check up on you, and get anything you might need? The flu is nasty. This is the first year I took the shot. Please take care and let us know how you're feeling.
Get well soon Kathleen. We need you here well and ready to go. Hope you do have someone checking on you. Let us know how your doing when you feel like it.
THANKS KAY AND SUSAN - Unfortunately, no one really here. My parents are not far away, but they are also sick with this. My son and his wife have had it (Selena still does), and the twin boys had it and have fought it off okay. Memphis is really busy with it right now. Oh, my brother has it also.
I cannot bend over with the pain in the right side, so putting the dog food and cat food in the bowls has been a challenge. I get it as far as possible and drop the dish, but the wand on that Dyson cleaner sure helps clean up my messes.
I'm on the road back finally I think, and I am more than ready! Take your flu shots and stay away from sick folks. This stuff is horrible.
Kathleen - I feel your pain. For the past week I've been sick. I finally got into the dr's today. I have a double ear infection, sore throat and congestion with cough. I'm on nose spray meds., cough medication and antibiotics. I'm tired all the time. My old cairn can't get on and off the bed by himself, we have to carry him. So when he wants on the bed he barks, off the bed, he barks. So all day long he barked to get on, barked to get off. Our little fur babies can certainly test our patience...lol. My husband has been helping with this but he's not feeling that good either.
Well, I hope you're feeling better soon. My prayers are with you.
Any news on the animal communicator? I'm just so anxious because because the weather has been the greatest lately.
Love to all,
Laura
Oops,
Should have previewed. A few typos, but I think you get the gist.
Laura
LAURA - Hope you and your husband are better soon too. Some really rough stuff. My chi Sophie cannot get on the bed, so we also do the bark up and down thing. I bought some of the doggie steps recently, but she is still nervous about them. So we compromised. I enticed her to come up and stand against the second step where I could reach her. She jumps off on her own. Now Tinkerbell is starting to teach her how to climb up and down it seems.
The last I heard, Debbie and Monica were communicating with the animal communicator by e-mail. I'm not sure where things are right now. I'll try and reach Debbie tomorrow and see what I can find out if she does not see this and post for us before then. Keeping my fingers and everything else crossed this lady can help our Vivi.
Kathleen,
Thank you. Also, I've tried the doggie steps. His legs are not stable enough anymore. When he jumped off the couch last year that's when he messed up his back leg. So when he has to go outside we have to carry him up and down the four deck steps because he will fall. He's approaching 17 (in June). So I guess for his age he's doing pretty good. He has been having problems with his legs as he ages. He's short and stocky. Those little sticks have to cart alot around. But thanks for the suggestion.
Laura
People tell me, if you have the room, use a ramp rather than those stairs..Some dogs don't understand stairs...My two had to be taught to walk up and down stairs. Satchel had no idea what stairs were when he spent several nights with my daughter years ago when I was in the hospital...
Ramps do take up more room tho.
Ruby,
As a matter of fact, I have one big step leading from my family room into my kitchen that my cairn couldn't get up. So my husband's cousin built a ramp for it out of wood and put some carpet on it. My cairn uses it all the time. Even my yorkie uses it now.
Laura
Crap, I've been on the wrong thread for a few days and didn't realize you all were posting over here. Yikes! I missed the flu shot this year. I'm going to have to lay low. I sure hope you are feeling better soon, Kathleen. However, the poochies sure love it when someone is home all day long. They make you share your sleeping space and tend to hog the majority of it. Oh Kathleen, you did get the Dyson. Do you like it? I sure like mine!
Rooby, the only reason I was pickin' on you was the fact I was delirious with a case of "cabin fever". The "fever" broke over the weekend with our nice weather but it might be back tonight. We've got winter storm warnings posted here. So I might be "yanking your chain" or "pushing your buttons" again in a few days! :) (Just a warning...) Heeee.
I'm now on a Z-pack, and it seems to be doing the trick to help. Thanks Pam. I did break down a few months ago and purchase that Dyson - AND I LOVE IT! It is absolutely wonderful. I have had Electrolux vacuums most of my life, but I love this Dyson much, much more.
Everyone, take care and stay away from sick people. Pam, you might want to give your doc a call and see if you cannot still get the shot. I think you may. Some of our patients are still getting theirs.
Take care, and BE HEALTHY EVERYONE PLEASE.
PAM,
I HUNTED YOU DOWN TO TELL YOU, I DON'T CARE THAT YOU ARE BEING MEAN TO ME..YOU'LL GET YOURS PUSSY CAT!
I'M SENDING A BIG CALIFORNIA STORM TO YOU...YOU WILL BE STUCK INDOORS FOR 4 DAYS! HEH
I HAVE A DYSON AND I LIKE THE SUCTION,BUT ITS WAY TOO HEAVY FOR ME. I'VE HAD MINE ABOUT 3 YEARS NOW. I ALSO HAVE A FANTOM AND IT WAS ALWAYS BROKEN, THE HOSE WOULD BREAK. LOVED IT TOO, BUT THE HOSES WERE ABOUT $30 A SHOT......
KEEP WELL EVERYONE! I HAD A FLU SHOT IN NOVEMBER AND SO FAR HAVE STAYED WELL...(o;
I POSTED ABOUT VALERIE BARNARDS DANTE ON TWO OF THE OTHER VIVI BLOGS. HE'S HAVING SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS AGAIN AND NEEDS A LOT OF PRAYERS.
ROOOBY - Any updates on Dante for today. Praying hard for the boy and Valerie.
