Joshua and Justin Moulder, who admitted to duct-taping, torturing and baking a 3-month old pitbull puppy in the fully heated gas oven of a community center, received the maximum sentence today in an Atlanta court room.
The brothers, aged 17 and 19, were each sentenced to 10 years for burglary and five years for animal cruelty. The sentences are to be served concurrently, not consecutively.
The Moulders -- who prosectuors called the "BTK brothers," for "bind, torture and kill" -- received the same sentence offered in a plea deal they had rejected.
The Moulders' first trial ended in a hung jury when one juror refused to convict.
County officials say they have received more than 5,000 emails and cards about the trial from all over the country, and even the world.

Five years isn't enough for what they did to the puppy. They should get 10 years for the puppy's death and another 10 for trashing the community center. The laws just don't take animal cruelty seriously enough!
I think they got off easy because the were considered "boys"...At 17 and 19 they were not boys after what they carried out with the puppy. Makes me sick! I did send a FAX urging the judge to punish them to the fullest......
I am just SICK TO MY STOMACH! Dont they realize kids who do these kinds of things almost alway's grow up to be murders. This sentence is a slap on the hand. THAT POOR baby, RIP. What a tragic death.
Rosa, thats exactly why I've worked so hard on the Otis the Greyhound case. This was no kid who tortured and killed Otis, but he has a history of crime. I don't know how far back it goes, but he's in his 30's. He needs to be put in jail longer than 5 years for what he did to that dog. I'm sick about the puppy in Atlanta case and I've been sick for months over Otis.
Nothing is happening with Wayne Dean yet, but he is still in jail and I can only hope they beat the crap out of him again.
Amen.
We can only hope the someone uses duck tape and does unspeakeable things to them when they are in prison!!
their 15 years will seems like 115 years!! If they survivor that is, which they probably won't!!
thank you everyone that faxed letters to the judge in this case - at least they didn't get off completely and hopefully the thugs in jail will help us carry out their sentence a little more than what the judge sentenced them to - if you know what I mean.
Now - on to save more animals and to sponsor a foal or two................
http://georgiapuppytorture.blogspot.com/ this is the site dedicated to the memory of the puppy
I agree, Kathy of Bayside. Inmates can administer their own kind of justice without going through red tape, so to speak.
My daughter and I are off to volunteer at a dog adoption day sponsored by Montville and New London, CT dog pounds. There will be other dog pounds and various rescues there, including at least one from NYC. It'll take willpower not to bring everyone home.
I am going to send in a donation for the foal.
I hope we can see a picture of equine Vivi. As always, I'll be thinking of our great foot soldiers and hope Vivi will meet them. The Dog Walk on Sunday sounds very promising and is a good opportunity to have many eyes and ears out to spot our canine girl. Have a good day.
Juror refused to convict ?! what is going on ?
I think the sentence was way too lenient.
Nancy, the juror who refused to convict the jerks said there wasn't enough evidence...I don't understand that, they admitted to what they had done. I wonder if she was afraid?
I understood it was 10 years, not 15 Kathleen Mc???
I'm sending money in todays mail Kathy Co..Poor little things.....
I agree. This sentence is WAY TOO LENIENT for two young men. I do believe the prisoners will take very good care of them though. And as for the duct tape, I will be glad to purchase and send as much as needed to the prisoners during their stay there!
I have learned a lesson from my friend at work, the non-animal lover. She grew up with a father who seemed to abuse animals somewhat. She is a tender and kind young lady, but had no love or appreciation for animals because of this. She could take them or leave them.
By becoming involved with my love for animals and the sweet stories I have shared with her of what all of you ladies do to help animals, she is now an animal lover too. This has helped me to realize how little promotion of education there is out there to show people the love, devotion, and kindness of an animal.
One program I did see on TV really impressed me. It was a program in some of the prisons where inmates are socializing, training, and working with dogs. Their bonds with these animals help to get the animals ready for adoption, but also helps to make them more model prisoners. The best of both worlds one can say. Let's try to promote more programs like this. Maybe this could be a way to help curve animal cruelty as well.
I went to that link, someone said that one of these guys already had a conviction for torture and rape of a 3 year old child. If this is true he should have been locked up for life anyway.
I didn't see anything about a torture/rape of a 3 year old child Nancy..Where was this posted? If this is so, the guy got off easy...very easy!
Cute story about some baby skunks in the Oakland Ca Redwood Regional Park, near where we lived when my kids were growing up.
>>
>> "One week after being born, six baby skunks were abandoned by their

>> are thriving and their new mom couldn't be happier. She has become
>> quite devoted to them and even carries them around to show them off
>> to visitors"
How sad, it just broke my heart to read this story. And when will the courts NOT take an animals life as though it is not worthy. I know there are many if us that love our pets unconditionally, I know I do. The punishment should be severe, because we need to let these kind of jerks know that you can not get away with this. They need to know what that poor puppy went through. I wish these idiots could be put away from everyone, they are not human beings in my eyes, they are monsters.
I just read about this case in People magazine and am just sick over it...how are these people even human? These monsters should never be let out of prison...people like this have no morals and no respect of life and have no place in our society.....I am between crying and feeling like I want to hunt these people down and show them pain. The poor little baby...no one, no animal, nothing deserves to die like that.
I agree that they deseve much more than 5 years for torturing and baking a 3-month old pitbull puppy!!!
