Reports of Vivi's death are greatly exaggerated.
That's the feeling among some searchers still looking for the champion whippet, who bolted from her crate Feb. 15 after competing at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show the day before.
In late November, searchers invited Oklahoma-based pet detective Karin Goin to canvass the Glendale neighborhood in southwest Queens where Vivi sightings were called in regularly until late summer. Unable to find a recent scent with her tracking dogs, Goin concluded that the brindle-and-white show dog, who looks like a miniature greyhound, had likely died. In short order, The Associated Press dubbed Vivi an "urban legend," and the dedicated knot of volunteer searchers considered disbanding.
Then, according to searcher Rosa Chile of Hollis, last Monday a motorist on Park Lane South in Glendale's Forest Park reported almost hitting an emaciated white dog that was trying to cross the road. Recognizing the dog from media reports, but a bit fuzzy on the details, the man jumped out of the car and shouted "Fifi!" The startled dog looked at him, then darted into the park.
"We've got this lineup of dogs," said Chile, referring to a montage of a dozen canine "mug shots" that she shows to people who have claimed to see Vivi. "And when we showed him, he pointed right to the dog and all he kept saying, all excited, was, 'That's it, that's it, that's it!'"
Much as she would like to believe Vivi has resurfaced, search coordinator Bonnie Folz of Howard Beach is cautiously optimistic. "It's very possible that was her, and she has found a good place to hide," concluded Folz, who has compared Vivi to the mob - just when she thinks she's out, the dog pulls her back in.
"But we'd really like some more sightings to be sure."

I truly believe VIvi is gone - not dead but gone from us all. If she is out there free, then she will die because of whatever reasons, a trapper wasn't brought in from the get go, and the trackers didn't help much, and if she is caught, then she is gone too, but at least alive.
I don't know why I'm angry, angry at the blog and the searchers. I probably couldn't have done better. I would have put more pressure on for a pro trapper. Pay him the $20,000 + and get the job done. But sadly that is all water under the bridge. (Not dart gun - don't go there.)
Going on the blog and being hateful towards the searchers at their failure to capture Vivi is not beneficial, but that is what I feel like doing, screaming angry at poor Vivi out there, if the sighting was good, and that is a big if. But I won't. In my head, I know the searchers did the best with their limited skills. I expected more. And even Bonnie listened to the experts that said, hands off, let her trap herself in a back yard, hands off, and look where that's gotten poor Vivi. All the love and all the prayers just wasn't enough to bring her home.
Now it is too late. Too late for us all. And too late for Vivi. We don't have the funds left for a trapper and with this group of camera mounting feeding stations women, one won't be brought in now.
I know the flame that burns in my heart for Vivi to be brought home has not dimmed yet.
Saddened Vivi Fan--where's your support those amazing footsoldiers gals? TeamV? Why blame toward the blog and the searchers? I only blamed toward the Delta Airlines who failed to secured Vivi's crate, and believed that someone did purposed opened her crate and/or deliberately dropped her carelessly. Vivi needs us to keep her going. And still living.

So you think the search was handled right? I don't. We need someone who will spend at least one week or more, a person experienced in animal trapping (no dart guns) to locate Vivi before she dies, if this sighting was a good one. That we can control, but we can't control what happened at Delta.

I know what you means but they do need your courage, support and prayers for them to find Vivi and I'm sure they will find a way to capturing Vivi but times will take and be patiences. Patiences usually did pay off.
And Vivi did avoided the trappers (animal trappers) because she's too smart for this kinds.
Only Jesus will give us our answers but in His own ways not our ways to bring Vivi home safely and yes alive.
Saddened, good attitude, that makes us all warm and fuzzy..Did you have the $20,000 or are you out there searching. I have no idea why you're angry at the searchers either..Too much hindsight perhaps on your part? Delta is a dead issue and has been almost from the start. They are no help..Perhaps you should ask them for the $20,000 now since Vivi has been sighted.
I for one will keep hoping and helping in any way I can and try to forget your post on the blog..

The search has been handled with secrecy, misinformation and anger toward Vivi's owners. The search has been handled and directed as dictated by a few who think they know what is good for Vivi. Then end, presumably, justifies the means. The searchers have their own little blog, where they probably don't spend their time talking about "Bobo" -- but they only share with you the current location of "Bobo", but not where Vivi might be, or what is being done to find her.
We have hit bottom. What's left is prayers.
Okay Saddened - Give the info. on how you think the search was screwed up. I think the NY searchers have done the best they can. I don't blame them one bit. I don't know who else would search for a dog for this long. Give specifics if you are going to come on and hint at how this was messed up. Innuendos mean diddly squat to me.

Beth, I can't believe your attitude towards the searchers. If they talk about Bobo, its a relief from the stress they go through most days, searching, posting flyers and doing the best they can with this whole thing. You've turned so bitter and I don't understand why. Of course I'm sure you'll tell me.

A hand's off decision was made in the beginning and now Vivi is so feral that she's dying out there. It was a crucial decision of not bringing in a "trapper" and any hope left, the eternal hope, is for a trapper now but he won't be coming because the cameras need to catch her image first. Now that is a smart move.
I think it is best to ignore Saddened posts girls.

Wow! Saddened Vivi Fan - that's a slam. I've never seen so many people work so hard in trying to save this wonderful creature.
I understand your frustration, but do you have $20K to dish out? Don't you think if the volunteers had that sort of money they wouldn't do it in a heart beat? My guess is trudging through rain, snow and sleet is not their idea of an ideal weekend.
We all have a fate... and Vivi's fate is in God's hands. I certainly don't think that the folks who have worked (and continue to work) so hard at bringing Vivi home need your negative remarks... unless, of course, you're pounding the pavement right there next to them.
Instead of the negativity, why not recall all Vivi has done? She has saved other animals' lives and has brought wonderful people closer together.
That, my friend, is fate.
Well, it is obvious why the "saddened fan" remained anonymous. Selfish people have always tried to keep the optimists stirred up. It only proves the addage: Misery loves company. Guess what "saddened"?!! You're not going to get company. Go wring your hands and boo-hoo somewhere else!! The people who really care have taken their sadness, and done something with it. They've physically searched for Vivi, they've donated, they've saved, and rescued other babies in Vivi's names. They've become activists on the part of abused animals. If finances, and physical disability have made that impossible they've prayed.
Many times they've done all of the above, and they've prayed. While they may have shed private tears, and had their fears, they have perservered!
What they haven't done is whine, cry, and place blame on others. Anyone can post to the blog, but people are truly welcome when they can add to it's positive nature, and DO something.
Re-wording another old saying.
Pray, and we'll all pray with you. Whine, and from now on--You'll be ignored!!!
Waxing poetic about what the blog has accomplished is going to help save or capture Vivi - not!

We are probably closer now to having Vivi than we have been this whole time. Efforts were worked on so hard, and the wheels were put in motion this weekend.
Vivi will come home, and I believe it will be soon. God is definitely answering our prayers, and the last thing we need right now on this blog and in the search of this sweet little dog is NEGATIVITY.
We have all worked hard, trusted hard, prayed together hard, and now it is time for us to thank God above for what He is about to do for this little animal. Please B+, we do not need this on the blog right now of all times. God is waiting on us to believe in Him to bring Vivi home I truly believe.
Hi All, don't let Saddened Vivi Fan knock you off your feet. Hindsight would a marvelous tool if you could use it to face a new exact-same scenario. It is useless here. Saddened is just expressing a personal feeling, not an absolute. Just pass it by.
We will wait to hear from our NYC foot soldiers to learn what went on this weekend in Forest Park.

Vivi is still alive and we are still looking for her and we are closer to her than we have been in months. I don't want to hear her referred to in the past tense. Well said Sharon.
Then please go save her, Saddened! Obviously you think you know more about it than any of us do, so go and get her and you will have our eternal gratitude. If not, please try to control the negativity and just give some good solid suggestions.

Folks, we have done tremendous things helping animals, people, and causes on this blog. I do not believe for one minute that God will not bring Vivi home to us safely.
I have never felt for one minute that He was not watching over her for us, and answering our prayers. We have to trust God, when the time is right Vivi will be rescued.

So to rally for what hasn't working to date is a good thing. As if by our will we can make it happen - so willing Vivi home is a good thing. And to hope or want for something else, like a trapper now before it is too late is a bad thing? To expess frustration and anger over Vivi's plight is a bad thing, but to talk about other matters excluding our concern over Vivi's plight is a good thing. To express ones concern about the proper methods now is a bad thing because it is anti-searchers and anti-their methods. Right.

It follows a pattern. It's always a crazy anonymous name--a coward. The e-mail is usually aol--this person, or maybe 2 people must have a corner on aol e-mail accounts. If there are two people (sometimes hotmail is used.) It's never really about Vivi it is an attempt to draw attention to herself. In short Susan, it's partially to get a rise. How sad! We pay attention to the positive.

By the way I do wish I could help the TeamV to find Vivi since I am from PA. and I am a deaf woman, most of my past and present pets usually senses/sensed me as being deaf. Most animals usually comes to the handicapped, deaf, blind, etc.
That is why I have a 4 year old cat, name is Cloudy. He always comes up and pawing at me! He even nipped at me. Oh yes, he even do the "roaching"!

Everyone is very emotional over Vivi and with good cause; however, we need to remember that those of us not out acitvely searching for Vivi ourselves and sitting at our computers "reading" about Vivi, we truly have no right to critize the extra efforts that ALL Vivi Team has been doing and continues to do.
We can ALL sit it judgement and say what should have been done, but in the heat of the moment things do not go so well planned. I am an animal rescuer myself and on many occassion wish that I too had done something differently.
The most important issue here is VIVI and the team actively looking for her and her family waiting for her safe return. Let's do all we can to support them; Vivi, Vivi family, and the Vivi Search Team!
Let's use this 100% positive identification of Vivi and let's get out there and use all the experience that we have and let's get Vivi home before this story does not have a happy ending. We now have the tools we need, let's use them and let's be positive and give positive reinforcement to the Vivi Team and NOT be MEAN AND JUDGEMENTAL - give them hope and suggestions and let's all try to get Vivi home for Christmas! I am one sitting at my computer, I am praying for Vivi, her family and her search team, I have given advice and some of it has been used, so unless I am willing to travel where Vivi is, then I have NO RIGHT to pass any harsh words or negative opinions.
SO, BAND TOGETHER AND HELP THE VIVI TEAM bring Vivi home safely to her family for the holidays! What a gift that would be! I have faith, I believe with this last 100% confirmed sighting that it is just a miracle waiting to happen, I am optimistic for Vivi, her family and the searchers! I have to be, too many times people give up too quickly - I have seen it done. And I do believe, in my heart that the last tracker and her dogs that they brought in, she gave up too quickly, too easily writing Vivi off! True, Vivi will NOT last forever, or possibly much longer, BUT WE HAVE A 100% CONFIRMED IDENTIFIED SIGHTING and the searchers I am sure will merge on that area and I feel it will be a a wonderful Vivi miracle.
Please keep the faith everyone - let's not be mean and negative, let's be comforting, positive, helpful, and supportive for everyone involved. Okay?
The process of bringing in a trapper works like this- first you wait (and in Vivi's case wait a long time) for her to become accustomed to a home area. Then our dedicated foot searchers set up feedng stations and wait for her to become accustomed to coming to those and establish evidence that she has been there. Then the trapper comes in. We have one on call for when this happens. Until that happens there is not much he can do. But we have made real progress just through dogged persistence. I have more hope now than I have had in a long time.

Does anyone know of a reputable professional trapper who doesn't use knock-out darts? Does it really cost in the range of $20k?
I mean the Vivi effort has included DNA analysis of poop ... a trapper isn't a far-fetched idea.

You've got a lot to say about the "searchers" and a lot of criticism as to why they haven't found Vivi. But one thing that hasn't been pointed out is that they AREN'T searchers. They are just kind-hearted people who have dedicated the last 10 months of their lives to finding a dog that they have never met. They are not professionals. The only thing that they are "professional" at is their jobs and being some of the most kind-hearted people you could ever have the pleasure of meeting.
Why haven't professional trappers come in? Why haven't professional searchers come in? Who the hell knows. Maybe that may be a good question to ask the owners, since they are consulted on everything before it takes place. They get the final say on everything.
Yes, they may not share everything on the blog because of this information being sensative in nature and to help avoid nuts calling in sightings because they have nothing better to do. They also leave out the bull*&$@ that they've had to deal with regarding just the political behind the scenes crap. You've got no clue!! Or maybe you do - since you've posted anonymously - which would mean that you are even further out of touch with reality then I thought.
This is not their dog. This is not a family member's dog. This is not even a friend's dog. This is a dog that belongs to an absolute stranger. And, if you think they are doing this for the HUGE REWARD that's being offered, think again. For all the time and effort that they've put in over the past 10 months, they would still be in the red after collecting.
Anyone who criticizes these girls and the efforts that they have made should be ashamed of themselves!!!

Trolls have no shame Lisa! They enjoy spewing hatred. They especially enjoy any attention they can get.
But like me, they do not have perfect memories because the main bash: "Wah wah wah why isn't there a professional trapper on board?" is dead wrong.
There is a professional trapper on board. However, he will only come here when there is a pattern established of Vivi being in a certain area. The cameras and the feeding stations are a part of establishing that pattern.

Hey Paula, Mila told me once that she knew if I lived in New York I would be out there looking for Vivi - even if it meant in one of those scooters with my arthritis.
I have been wanting to go to New York. Maybe I should go, take Tinkerbell along too, and maybe the searchers could get me a Scooter to tour New York and look for Vivi. She just might feel sorry for me and come jump in my lap. I know she and Tinkerbell would become the best of pals!
I would be willing to foot the food at the hot dog stands, etc. to lure her to in.
Can't you just see me and Tinkerbell in our Scooter doing New York with the "weenies" all around us, and who knows maybe some beer too (have to think about that one though).
Who knows, they might even let me join the "weenie crew" (hahaha)! Might even get to see some snow for a change. Oh, I did see some snow this morning - on the expressway where it had fallen off of someone's car traveling through!

I am not as tactful as some of the bloggers but neither do I hide behind an alias. I have one thing to say and then maybe I'll be quiet (doubt it) Don't slam the searchers!!! All they do is work their butts off trying to find Vivi. They are not professionals and they do have to take orders from the powers that be. Wouldn't it be nice if they got a personal thank-you? They certainly don't need "saddened" to post such rotten comments. You should be ashamed of yourself, but I'm sure you're not. I do have something constructive to say-Just maybe now is the time to charter a helicopter like Rick did once and try to canvas the large park where she might be hiding. I believe the money is there but it's a matter of loosening the purse strings.

Waiting for Vivi to establish herself in one area was always key to setting something up to be able to catch her, and why it's been so frustrating because she would never settle. This sighting implies that she's been in the area possibly for months. That's why for me this feels like a hopeful sighting.
Kathleen--I can picture it in my head, you riding on the scooter and little Tinkerbell around the big forest park along with the weenies!! :-)
I don't have the car to own...too poor to afford it. I'm only 42. I did see the flurries earlier today in my hometown.(I have the type-2 diabetes and had it for 5 years now.) But nothing can stop me--deaf, diabetes, etc...just enjoy being living!!
Now is so not the time. We have a chance for once. A month ago I was bargaining with God to give us this kind of chance. We didn't know where she was or if she was alive. We know where she is now. This doesn't make it easy but is cause for optimism not pessimism, anger, division..

Saddened, I would suggest you email the owners with your ideas and of course Bonnie that will answer your questions and take suggestions. There's no sense in beating a dead horse over how the search was conducted in the very beginning, for that I believe you need to contact Bo.
We should be thankful that NY has some dedicated people that are willing to help in the search for a lost dog. Sadly, that is not the case in other states.

Patty -- you said "BUT WE HAVE A 100% CONFIRMED IDENTIFIED SIGHTING." In reading the latest posting, they don't seem to feel that confidently about this sighting. I don't think we can call it a 100% confirmed sighting, in light of the later developments. Just another possible sighting, like the one with the fisherman.

Hey, the old Southern Belle is 54, but she is still fighting it all the way. Got to be active for my grandkids!
God has been good to me. My doctor has always told me my rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis were the worse cases he has seen. Yet, I work, have somewhat of a social life, am still walking, and enjoy my life more than ever. I have God to thank for that.
