<<Lost on Rolling Ridge in Jay, ME (on the Wilton town line) on Friday (11/24/06) morning during a hike. Beth is a 75#, black and rust, docked Rottweiler between 3-5 years old. She is a foster dog and doesn't know the area she was lost in. Beth is wearing a bright pink martingale collar with NERR&R tags on it. Beth is not fearful or shy, she is very gregarious and will be looking for people to be with.

We believe someone has this dog. She is very people friendly and would look for people. We are expanding the search to Kennebec County.

It's probably with a neighbor within a few blocks of where the dog was lost. Just a guess. I don't think Rotty's are runners.
I rescued a big Rotty a few years ago - it just wandered in all the yards sniffing - taking his time - but mine didn't like females so I asked a male neighbor to help me get this overgrown Teddy Bear of a dog. It's owner didn't lock his gate and during a storm the dog wandered off. But what I noticed is that the owner didn't post enough signs -just a few and the dog did walk away from its home. Just reinforced how much a person has to post for miles around their house - miles. And then I put an ad in the paper and people were calling me from all over to get this dog - but I was very careful and refused to show the dog to some people. Finally the owner gave me the magic words - micropchipped - and the vet hospital where the chip as put it - and I gave his dog back. Happy ending.

That's right. I did that when my Siberian Huskies disappeared. They weren't much help there but they did pick up Mabel when she took to wandering the streets.
people call the police first because its a phone # that accessible...they will make a note of the call and.....start there
Where I live the police don't care much about dogs, and barely care if someone is at the front door with a gun. Now, if the homeowner has a gun then the police come quickly to stop trouble, but the bad guys, sad to say, not too interested. Mostly I think it is because they are overworked and answer only the "true" emergencies - issues of life and death.
Ok dont call the police.
DOXIE UPDATE IN NJ:
Hi Everyone -
We are now down to the final two doxies looking for homes. Debra and Donna have been working hard to place these two sweethearts, but keep running into some roadblocks because these are two of the older seniors. You seniors out there know how that can feel!
Sabrina is 11-years-young, red smooth coat, unspayed female, teeth need work, heart murmur.
Briar is 9-years-young, wirehair, unspayed, teeth need work.
It is felt that Sabrina should have an Echo before any anesthesia because of she has not been on medication for who knows how long.
Both sweeties are in need of blood profiles before any surgery due to their ages and a heartworm and lyme test (Deb ran these today and they were negative). Deb may be working some free hours to pay for these babies' treatment - but she is trying to help them anyway she can.
Dr. Z has agreed to spay Briar on Thursday and do her teeth (Deb has done the blood profile to make sure this is safe for Briar).
Deb is begging the folks for help with the Echo for Sabrina (it could cost $400).
I asked her to allow me to post this on the blog for anyone who might want to help these babies. If you would like to make a Holiday donation to help these two last seniors, please send to:

Talking to Deb by e-mail and on the phone about these babies, I feel I have grown to know each of them and their little personalities. Deb says to meet them is to love them; they all have wonderful personalities.
I had no idea the day I decided to start sending e-mails out for their rescue that I would grow so fond of these babies. I am going to create a collage in Photoshop of all the babies' pictures and hang it in my house to remember all of them and say a special prayer for them always. When it is done, I will be happy to share with anyone else who would like one as well.
Next Friday I will also be making a donation in honor of my grandparents to help these two babies. They are not here to give a present, so I believe this is what they would want me to do. A little less toys for the grandchildren, but don't need to spoil them so much anyway (hee, hee).
Thank you again Darlene, and all the others. This really touches my heart so much.

doxies break my heart. When I was visiting them
and picking up Hazel, I fell really hard for the
two seniors with their little grey faces and blue
eyes quietly peering thru the cages. These dogs

TODAY IS COURT DAY FOR THE OTIS THE GREYHOUND ABUSE CASE! It probably will be several days before I get any info from the people who are watching this case closely. My only concern it that the abuser is "copping a plea" and I don't know if he'll get off easy. The judge is the one who pulled out of the case because he had a Greyhound who had just died.Now the judge feels it is up to the jury and he can handle the case.
We can only hope, Wayne Dean Allen gets whats coming to him!

Some people are really irresponsible with their pets. It is very common in the area where I live for people to just let their dogs out to run and then call them back in. They don't seem to care where they go. Just let them in when they come back to the door. Our town now has a leash law ordinance for a few years which has cut down on this drastically.
Oh, he is so beautiful. I pray he is found safely. I'll try searching some on the internet tonight to see if I see where anyone could have found this baby. Thanks Ruby.

It seems to be the same article about Otis thats been on that site for a long time.I didn't click on any of the links, but Otis was put down shortly after the whole thing was found out about, so I really doubt that there are any photos. Later today or tomorrow, I'll hear something I hope. It's not good to bother the people connected with the case...I just wait and finally get the info on it.

I have made friends with a nice lady in the office. She is terrific and a HUGE animal lover herself.
I just talked to her, and today was what they call the "status conference." The two sides get together and talk about the setting of the case at this. A trial date may be set, but not so far. She said she should know more in a day or two and asked me to please call back anytime. We had a wonderful conversation. They are such nice people out there. Sure does my heart good with each one I meet. What a jewel this lady is! She does all sorts of things to help the dogs (and other animals) in their area.
She explained the plea bargain thing more to me. Actually, she said this can sometimes be very good because they can put conditions in a plea bargain and not a Court verdict (such as Wayne Allen Dean never being able to own an animal again or be in a house with any animal), psychiatric treatment, and also can allow them to impose a longer term of jail time if he admits to one or more of the charges. So don't everyone get upset about a plea bargain like I was feeling myself.
I can assure you. This group of people are strong animal rights people and they will see that Mr. Dean gets his justice. I am convinced of this. I'll check back with her at the end of the week and find out about any updates. She was sure she would know more by then.

She was telling me they have a no chain law there. She drives around and helps find dogs on chains, and gets them off chains.
Also, when she goes in pet stores, she watches to see if they are selling stakes and chains for animals. If they are, she reminds them they are contributing to breaking the laws in Pima County with these.
Way to go, huh! Put those people straight about the laws to help these little innocent creatures!

Thanks Ruby, I assume you mean about the Otis info. No problem. Hey, you are the one who pushed for fair treatment for this baby and did the petition, YOU ROCK LADY! She was amazed at the response and letters in support of Otis. Kudos to you for that.
The sad news is that this lady told me Otis' case was really very "mild" compared to many others they see. Can you imagine? This broke my heart indeed. BTW, she also has seen this guy, and she thought he was very creepy.
I know I spend a lot of time with my cell phone, but I have really met some INCREDIBLE people on it. It is so wonderful to know how many people are still out there that are "obscessed" about animals like I have always been.
This lady would have talked on for hours about animals, but I had to get back to work. She was just amazing! You could feel her love for animals. God bless people like this.

KathleenSsss, I know everything you're saying to me. I've been watching and talking to people since the start and you're right I was the one who pushed for what you call "fair treatment", but what I call getting that guy for what he did to Otis, I had nothing "fair" in mind...........Your new good friend is no more amazed than the attorney handling the case and many others, at the number of Faxes, letters and emails for Otis to be revenged! There are over 3,300 signatures on the petition for which I thank the people in the Vivi blog and people who saw my pleas in the candle site. Also, of course a man who did what he did, would look "creepy"...
