Vivi Voices #4

The fourth in an occasional series on Vivi volunteers near and far.

Name: Kathleen McGurty-Weiser (aka “Kathy from Bayside”).
Kathy_and_hubby Location: Bayside, N.Y., natch.
Age: 51.
Occupation: Currently unemployed.
Family: Husband Steve and an elderly Lhasa apso named Rosebud.Kathydog
Hobby: Pez collector.
Her prize Pez: Jiminy Cricket, circa 1973.
Her dream Pez: “I would love to own the Universal Monsters from around 1965: Frankenstein, Wolfman and the Creature from the Black Lagoon.”
Guiltiest pleasure: Bingo.
Favorite TV show: “CSI” — New York and Las Vegas.
If the blog was a TV show, what would it be? “Days of Our Lives”!
Best Vivi-search memory: Receiving word of a sighting in Forest Park, and meeting the man who called it in. “While he was showing us the location, I had this strong feeling that Vivi was nearby, and I almost started crying.”
Worst-Vivi search memory: Following up on a report of a woman walking a whippet in Bayside. “I knocked on their door and a man answered. I told him why I was there.” Wearily, the man picked up his whippet, who was named Playboy, and pointed to the piece of anatomy that made it abundantly clear his dog was not Vivi. “Boy, was I embarrassed, and apologized profusely while backing out the door.”
Dumbest piece of Vivi advice she’s ever heard: “No idea is dumb — we have to consider all options.”
And the best: “Set up video cameras to constantly record.”
Kathy2 Her most vivid Vivi dream: She’s never had one. “Isn’t it enough that she is in every waking moment in my life — do I really need to dream about her too?”
How she imagines Vivi will be caught: “Unfortunately the only way I feel that Vivi will be caught is if she is winged by a car, and has difficulty walking and running.”
Ever met a whippet? Nope.
How she started searching for Vivi: On the day she came across this blog, she read a post about a sighting in Peck Park, which is not far from her house. “I grabbed a leash and a bag of biscuits and jumped in my car — and I am still doing that — because I thought for sure I would drive by the park, lure her into my car with the promise of a yummy cookie, and that would be that.”
Where do you think she is now? There are three possibilities: Someone has her who is not aware of her (strange, I know). She is in an area that has not been posted (strange, I know). Or she is … Sorry, folks, need to be realistic here!
What she’s learned about her home borough of Queens that she didn't know pre-Vivi: “I have lived in Queens close to 30 years, and before Vivi I only knew how to get to the Queens Center Mall, Macy’s on Northern Blvd, the #7 train in Flushing and the LIRR on Bell Boulevard. Ask any of the other searchers on my abilities on getting around. Ha!”

Kathy from Bayside - I think that Halloween picture is adorable!! Was it recent?

Oh gads Kathy but that outfit is adorable and you are just beyond wonderful!

Vivi is out there - she is just hiding that's all! God bless your hard and wonderful efforts. If I knew how to spell - I'd give ya a big hip hip ....yabba-a-doo!

Absolutely adorable Kathy. I just love this picture. You are great with all of your help for sure.

Thanks for the nice article, Denise. We needed to see Kathy's big smile to brighten our spirits right now.

You go girl - keep that leash and biscuits handy. Who knows, Vivi may just walk right up to you some day. If she does, give her that biscuit after you swat her little behind for us please.

Your husband has a nice smile too! Boy what a lucky lady you are and such a cute doggie too! Now be careful when you're tromping around Queens looking for Vivi.....

Great Pictures of all of you. Your guys are rocks, who knows she may be hiding around the next tree.
Keeping the faith for VIVI in TX

Nice to meet you Kathy! Fun pics and we all sure appreciate all you do for VIVI!

Love the costume; very colorful Kathleen. All great photos. Hey I'm so glad you are sticking
with us my friend.:)

B-J

Nice looking couple Great to see a name with a face

It's great to finally have a picture to match these wonderful ladies. Looking forward to more Vivi Voices. You guys are awesome.

Kathy, may not have found Vivi yet, but you seem to have brought out some missing bloggers. Glad to see some back and posting. You were missed greatly!

Kathy -- so nice to finally "meet" you!! I am so grateful for your amazing dedication and energy. Boy, are we all lucky you are part of this crazy group!

What wonderful pictures Kathy! Nice husband, sweet pup and a very colorful and special you! Now we will be able to visualize your face (and costume) when you post!
UPDAT: NEWS ON THE GREYHOUNDS AT THE AC&C:
I just spoke to Cheryl at Bay Street Animal Hospital (information so kindly given by Stephanie at the AC&C) and the Grey has been returned to her home. Her "mommy" was searching and posting and frantically looking for her girl (sound familier?)and the pup has gone home. There was only one greyhound and not two as listed. Seems there was an error in the posting as they didn't know what color to list. That is why one post was removed a little later. AC&C and the animal hospital are very aware of Vivi, but it was best to check. THE GIRL WENT HOME!!!!

Oh, Mila - so happy at least one girl got to go home. Now we just to our Vivi found and returned. There's still hope!

Way to go Kathy. Thanks for all your hard work. ViVi will go home.

Hi Sedona! The news is wonderful for this sweet greyhound and the same will be for our Vivi also.

Mila:

That's what I believe too - all the way - Vivi will come home!

HI Kathy from Bayside
Nice to meet you, and hubby. My shih tzu says hello to Rosebud ;)

Hi Everyone!! Thank you all for the kind words. Martha, Rosie says WOOF back!

Kudos, Kathy! Hugs and Blessings to your husband and Rosebud!

We received this request from prayers for pets:

I request prayers last week for a white pom that was stolen out of a camper
last week. Please continue praying for this little girl. There has been no
sightings or information on her. Her name is Buttons. She was stolen in
Florence SC. I am doing all I can to help this sweet old man to find her. We
are going to the sherriff office today to see if they will help any. There
are flyers up, ad in news paper, Vet offices have been notified. Please pray
for her safe return.

P.S.I request prayer for a man whose pom was stolen. Well he was admitted to
the hospital for chest pains tonight. Maybe stress related. Please remember
him in your prayer and his little Buttons who is still missing.

Hey Elizabeth, they don't call me Kook for nothing you know!!

God,
all powerful, most holy
sublime ruler of all, you alone are good -
supremely, fully, completely good,
may we render to you all praise,
all honour and all blessing:
may we always ascribe to you alone
everything that is good!

Awesome Sharon - what a prayer

Thanks Mila for the update on the Greyhound
at CACC. They would not release the dog to rescue,
but I am sure glad it was reunited with her owner

Sue, I was so happy that this little grey girl went home! She was still listed as a lost pet as of this morning on the CACC site, but I was told she went home I believe it was on Monday.

Happy Feast of St. Francis!!

Today is the Feast of Saint Francis, Patron Saint of Animals. Some of you may remember my friend Charleyne who went to the Bronx Zoo to speak with Cesar Millan. She does not have internet access. I wanted you to know that Charleyne has arranged for special prayers for Vivi to be said today by Father Christopher and all the Franciscan priests at the St. Bernardine Monastary in Hollidaysburg, PA at their Blessing of the Animals today. Charleyne asked me to also remind all of you to stay focused on positive outcomes and remember that God gives us miracles every day.

Mila B, thank you so much for checking out that greyhound to be sure it was a grey. Follow through is so important, as you know.

Aren't every one of these featured NY Footsoldiers just absolutely beautiful women? Thank you all.

Thanks Jackie for your nice comment to Mila. She is such a fine lady. She is a very quiet lady and doesn't often share things she is doing here on the blog and with others, but let me tell you from e-mails this fine lady NEVER stops working for ALL the animals and causes involved.

Her humility is so sweet and impressive. Now I have probably embarrassed her, but I had to let you all know how really wonderful she is.

She is a "hidden jewel" in our blog group! Definitely a diamond too.

Thank You Mila:) I am so glad this Greyhound has been reunited with her owner. Great job.

Here is a story about a lost whippet in Georgia, if anyone is in that area, maybe you can help find him.

http://community.livejournal.com/thedogcommunity/1254708.html

Why Kathleen! How very kind and generous of you! And you have embarrassed me! Truthfully, it is ladies such as yourself and the others on this blog that bring out the best in me. I think we all have grown quite a bit - each and every one of us -with our Vivi experience and our untiring devotion to our precious animals. Our best does shine through!!!

Hello Everone

I have 12 pages of real estate agents I am working on. If anyone would like to help me mail some flyers please email me. ViVi is out there and we still need to continue getting the word out. This is a big area to cover and I desperately need help.

Thanks Marty. We can't give up on this girl. She may be in an area that is not posted. She may have gotten very good at hiding during the day. If that is the case, and it is just as likely as any other, the only way we will find her is if the person who is lucky enough to see her has also seen a poster, an ad, a newspaper article or a bulletin board. And thanks to all who have been relentlessly helping.

October 4th was my father's Birthday. He loved nature also. He passed in 1972 at age 49. I wanted to take Francis as my confirmation name but they wouldn't let me. Had to pick a female saint; so I picked Mary. I was very upset with this and Sister Saint Dorothy helped me by saying I could still pick Saont Francis in my heart. So I did and though the paper says Mary it's really Francis.

The injured Monarch Butterfly I picked up the other day flew accross the bridge today. I have her in a case sitting here and she is so beautiful. Sad she didn't make the migration but she at least got to spend her last days in a natural position with fragrant flowers to sip if she desired instead of crippled and laying on her side blowing in the wind. I spent a good portion of the day just communing with nature. It was a beautiful day.

B-J -- thank you so much for caring about that little butterfly and being with her in her last moments with us. That means so much.

B-J Francis Mary, what a sweet soul you are to care for the Monarch Butterfly with such tenderness. Her life was made more comfortable by you. Bless you and your so kind heart.
October 4th is a day of rememberance for you, isn't it? A quiet day full of thoughts and memories.

Kim, I just read about Ticket the lost whippet in Georgia. What a beautiful much loved pup. I hope that the son can find him - he needs to post post post! Hopefully he can stay until Ticket is found.

Barbara-Jean, you are a One-Of-A-Kind beautiful person who holds a special place in God's heart. I am glad I know you and can call you friend!

Mila and Elizabeth I love Butterflies. Many bugs actually. Sad truth is if it were a beatle or spider I would have said a few words and passed them by. I have a great fear of a lot of bugs. And yet not so with may others. Strange huh. It was a very peaceful day and thankful also. As Star is doing so much better. Still not 100% though. Being fresh and did the eagle attack at me but it tuckered him out.

Kathy; you see I am not perfect. lol I am honored to have crossed your path and call you friend also. SO many of us would never have had the pleasure if not for Vivi. Now it's Vivi's turn to meet us all so she can feel and see the love up front and personal.

B-J, I picked Francis for my confirmation name.. I wonder why they wouldnt let you have it. It shouldnt matter if its male or female. Francis is both.
Mila, I posted on Tickets site, that they need to post. That is the key to finding him. What a beautiful whippet. Hope they have luck finding him.

Yes over the years that may have changed Kim. It was the fact that I wanted to use the male Saint's name I think. Way long ago for me to remember it all. lol

I hope they find Ticket.

My confirmation name is Josephine after my father Joseph.

My birth name is Kathleen Mary..

Hey Kath, does Steve know he's now famous. Too bad I didn't know about this when I saw you - I would have given him the Vivi business.

Mila, thank you for your work with the greyhound. When B-J send the posting to Rosa and she sent it to me I contacted Greatful Greys and left a message. Also checked the Greyhound Amber Alert postings of Greytalk but nothing was posted. The owner is very lucky to get her baby back so fast.

Diane, yep, the owner is very lucky to get her girl back and so quickly. We all know very well how fast and far these sighthounds can move in a very short time (hmmmm...... wonder how we would know thar)!!

Diane, give him the business next time you see him. I am sure he will appreciate it. LOL!!

B.J. You could be my daughter, she loves almost all creatures..I told your about our Milly Mantis when my kid was in 3rd grade. Now, at 42, she has 3 aquariums full of Pacific Tree Frogs that almost got mowed over on a lawn. She feeds them crickets @ 11 cents each and feeds the crickets a special food too. (last meal I guess you'd call it..lol)
She has taken numerous birds to Wild Life Centers, squirrels, bats, and rescued and had spayed/neutered 1around 14 cats! She's got a hubby that puts up with her and a ma who made her the way she is with All Creatures Great And Small...
I think I'm gonna cry, again....You guys are just too mooooooooshie...lol

Yes I remember Ruby. heh I wouldn't let anyone mow the lawn because we had tons of fowler toads and I didn't want then runned over. I was really careful and you may not believe this but after a while they would all wind up on the bricks along the garage and actually watch me mowing the lawn. lol I loved them and thought they were the perfect pets. Outdoors living natural and still able to communicate ans enjoy. But alas after the last demolision next door and the two new houses with trees removed and the whole grounds dug up in winter I guess many died and any that did survive moved on. I think they liked the ground next door to winter in as it was looser than mine and the fact that there hasn't been one here all summer. Am hoping some with come back and repopulate next year. I miss them.

Francis - male
Frances - female Good way to remember is "is" = "his"(or Him) , "es" = "her" Oh well, that's the only way I learned to keep them apart
St Anthony's in Oceanside is holding a blessing of the animals this Saturday 11 AM, in the church. There are other churches around here that hold the event in their parking lots or whatever. St.Anthony's is my childhood parish, so I may take my "kids" there (the canines , that is)

Franciscan
Pet Blessing
Blessed are you, Lord God,
maker of all living creatures. You inspired St. Francis to call all animals his brothers and sisters.
We ask you to bless our animals. By the power of Your love, enable them to live according to Your plan. Amen.
(Many people use this as an individual blessing, and substitute their baby's name in place of (our animals) and (them).)

Father God, on this Feast of Your great Saint Francis, whom You inspired to call the animals his brothers and sisters, we offer prayers for the animals and animal lovers we raise to you...

We would like to lift up Dave and Sherita's

Candles? http://www.gratefulness.org

I just got a call for my friend Lisa, she's on her way to emergency with her Bichon, Ezmeralda, who is having an acute bladder stone attack and unable to urinate...on top of which Lisa lost her Dad very suddenly one week ago tomorrow. Her 4 Bichons are her children.

O beloved Saint Francis, gentle and poor, your obedience to God and your simple, deep love for all God’s creatures led you to the heights of heavenly perfection and turned many hearts to follow God’s will. Now, in our day, pray also for us,as we intercede for help for our friends and we come before the Lord with our special requests.

Bless and heal Lisa's Bichon Ezmeralda, and find a new home for Tashia the Husky, as she was returned to (another) Lisa's rescue today. Brother Francis, Father God, she must be so confused!

O blessed Saint of God, from your throne among the hosts of heaven present our petitions before our faithful Lord. May your prayers on our behalf be heard and may God grant us the grace to lead good and faithful lives. Amen.

Saint Francis of Assisi,
Pray for us. Amen.

Nancy, I learned FrancEs was female cuz thats my middle name..lol

I hope the little Bichon is ok. I'll start a candle site:::::Ezz for her...

night guys, I'm worn to a frazzle...sleep well everyone... /0;

Nancy, Ezmeralda is under "Ezme" I lit a candle, maybe she'll have her own "group"

What has happened with Ticket? Anyone, please. Marnie, positive in CA

Ez passed two very large stones and she was finally able to pee at the emergency clinic...so she didn't have to stay for more intervention...And Lisa finally got the name of something to get for Ez that may prvent more of this. Thanks to everyone.

Please keep up the prayers and candles for Vivi. You've all done such a wonderful job, and I'm so grateful to everyone out there who is still posting and looking. I'm sending off flyers and posters -- let's keep that information out there!

Thank you Elizabeth, Diane has only received one small bag of small posters for me so far.

I think perhaps those people who sent those larger posters in the beginning may have left the blog, which is why we are not receiving large posters anymore. I guess it took too long to find Vivi for them, they got bored!!

Kathy - I'm going to take a stab at trying to make some posters this weekend. I had e-mailed Diane earlier. Please specify what is large (11X16?) and what is small (11X14?) Can they be just black & white? Or do they have to be color? I'm a rookie at this so just wanted some more info.

Also, have we ever clarified what the posters should say? There was talk about whether "Stolen" should go on them. I think "Still Missing" is good.

And I think the only phone number on the posters should be the vanity number, with the words TOLL-FREE on it.

I sent large color (11 x 14)....lamenated posters and Diann should have them soon.
As soon as I get the word that they are OK, I'll make more of whatever is needed.
The lamenated are too expensive for me to make tons of, but will do all kinds of the regular posters either 11 x 14 or whatever is needed.

I used the one that is listed, says STILL MISSING.
Guess we need a sighting before anything much can happen now.

Linda - Did you download the flyer and have it made it into the posters?

Kathy from Bayside:
It's so nice to be able to put a face with one of the foot soldiers. You're a very attractive family, such great smiles. Even Rosebud is smiling. I see you guys like Art Deco, me too.

Ladies who offer prayers each day:
Thank you for the lovely prayers. It's so nice to read them. But, you can take my Lady off the Prayer Lists because she's just fine now, no cancer. However, you will never know how grateful I am that this group prayed and lit candles for her during our cancer scare. Knowing that I had support here made all the difference in the world to me.

I don't post often, but please know that I am here in spirit and behind you every step of the way.

ViVi, please go to someone who can help you get home.

Sheila

Well, I just had an eventful noon hour. While out dong some errands, I noticed a Scottie Terrier roaming loose. No owner in sight. I called to it and the dog came right up to me. I knew someone near me owned a Scottie so I loaded it into my vehicle and took it there. Well, it wasn't theirs but it turned out to be their daughter's dog. She didn't live very far from where I had picked the dog up - but the dog should never have been let outside loose in the first place especially if it does like to roam and dogs do. And this one was very friendly - anyone could have picked it up! If the dog owner doesn't have a fenced in yard, they should never let the dog out without watching it. I hope the owner will realize that now. Anyway - I was thinking this was my first Vivi rescue!! Just thought I'd share the event.

Way to go Pam! Another little animal befriended by a Vivi bloggers....

Vivi is smiling right now I know.

This is a step in the right direction. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger of Calif. just signed a bill into office, forbidding the tethering of a dog unattended for more than 3 hours. Also recently signed a bill that makes it a crime to leave animals unattended in vehicles in hot or cold weather, or without adequate ventilation, food or water. Violators of the law, which also allows the police to break windows and take animals to safety, face fines and as much as six monthes in jail.

Everyone needs to write or contact the Govenor of their state, to sign similar bills into office

Meri-Lou,
Finally, good old Arnie has done something for the state I live in..haaaaaaaaaa...The big Austrian jerk...(I'm Austrian too so I can say that!) He can't even pronounce CALIFORNIA..He says something like, Cauli-for-neia..ackkkkkkkkkkkk

Don't forget about Otis and Duke..sign their petitions. I'm waiting to hear from the Humane Soc. gal in Arizona about whats going on with the Otis case.
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/451360147

You don't have to read the petition is really bad animal things bother you, but sign it and help put the abuser in jail where he belongs!

DeniseM is working hard to get her boy Duke out of jail... www.SaveDuke.homestead.com/
If you need Denise M's address to send letters for Duke, let me know!

Light a candle for sweet Vivi...Also Otis and Duke and the other babies and humans...

Pam in MN: Neon colored posters really get everyones attention. I will take whatever you can all make for me, but the LARGER the better. People will be looking at them as they are driving by and they need to be able to read them quickly. I have gotten comments from people on how they could not read the numbers of letters, unless they got real close (maybe they need glasses!)

Glad to hear about Lady, often we don't get much feedback. I want to remind people to keep Buttons the lost pomeranian in your prayers, her elderly owner misses her so much--he was taken into the hospital the other night for what the doctors feel was a stressed related heart attack. Also, unfortunately Tashia the Husky was returned from her new home yesterday---the husband didn't think she liked him--- after only two days. If there are Michigan residents who would like to adopt a great little Husky girl:who is 5, loves kids, and other animals, and is just gorgeous...Let me know!

Kathy from Bayside - What I need to know is if the posters can be printed in black & white or color? Can either be done? Does it matter? Thanks!!

MICHIGAN READERS:
Tashia is a Husky who has lived with a cat her whole life. She is beautful with stunning blue eyes, mostly white, with some grey fur. Tashia is a 5yr old, spayed, pure bred siberian husky. She is small for her breed, only weighing 45lbs. Her owner can no longer keep her because the landlord says 2 dogs are too much for a 350sf apt. and no fenced yard. And we are unable to find another apt in her price range that will allow the 3 pets she has. So we are trying to find a new home for Tashia. Tashia loves to play with the other dog in the household, an 11 yr old male about her size. She also gets along with the cat in the household. Tahia is housebroken. She is also ok with staying in a crate during the day. She will need training to learn basic commands, as she tends to be a runner if she gets off the leash. She is still very active and likes long walks. She is good with children. She is spayed, Heartworm negative, and up to date on vaccines. She loves car rides and is calm and good in the car. If you would like to meet Tashia, please call 517-927-8881 or email neuteryourpets@mail.com

SheilaP: The Art Deco background is from a cruise ship The Royal Caribbean - Mariner of the Seas. We took a cruise last year. Don't ask! I hate cruises, the food sucks and I get motion sick. Except, of course, when you go to St. Martin and buy jewerly...

Pam -- I think whatever you can do, will be great. Color posters are fantastic, because it shows the colors of Vivi's coat. However, even black and white is effective. Sometimes it makes sense to do black and white because you can usually do more for the same amount of money.

Thanks Elizabeth - The reason I was asking was that I tried to print a colored flyer off my computer and it wasn't the best. My printer wasn't doing something right. So all I can get is black & white for right now. So if black & white is ok, that is what I'll do for this time.

Sorry I did not answer you sooner Pam, yes Elizabeth is right about the Black and White and thank you for all you have done and are doing. Whose better than you?
