For those who haven't heard, here is the quick version, Tarik is a 4 y/o male neutered afghan hound. He is black masked red ( Blonde) in color and his coat is clipped short. He was placed via an all breed rescue with a couple @ August 23, 2006. He did not make a good adjustment to his new home. Tarik escaped on Sunday, October 1, 2006 while wearing a metal prong collar and a 4 foot brown leather leash. He has been sighted several times since then with his prong collar and leash still attached. We have every reason to believe that he is still alive and hiding in the wooded areas around 476/blue route.
We are planning a mass search for Tarik this coming Saturday,October 28, 2006 9AM in Media, PA which is a suburb of Philadelphia. We will be meeting on Providence Road. Take 76 or 95 to 476 (Blue Route) to exit 5/Route 1 toward Lima go to the exit for 252 south/ AKA Providence Road, make a left at the top of the ramp, There is a Wawa at the intersection and a seafood restaurant next door, we will use the seafood restaurant's parking lot to meet because I noticed it was large and empty this weekend.
We need people to post flyers, I will have some available but I am also attaching one, if anyone is able to print some that will help. Please feel free to change the colors on the flyer to keep it eye catching. I am also asking if anyone is able to donate, gallon sized zip lock bags (to use to cover the flyers to protect from weather), push pins/thumb tacks, and tape to help hang flyers.
We will need people to search the wooded areas around 476 where he has been seen, if you have friendly sighthounds (treated with tick repellent) available that can come, Tarik is more likely to approach another dog versus a strange person. I have taken my own dogs out and suggest that afghans in full coat not be used, the brush and wet marshy areas are torture on the coat or rather the human that cares for it. Clipped afghans and other sighthounds are good. I have seen ticks so I strongly suggest, tick repellent on the dogs.
I have set up some feeding areas because we are being told by the animal communicator that Tarik is hungry. We are using dry cat food (fish flavor) and plastic/paper bowls. Donations of these items are also greatly appreciated. We are going to need to put out food in as many areas as possible to draw him out and hopefully feed him so that he lives long enough for us to catch him.
I am well aware of how wrong the prong collar is & circumstances around the placement. Those of us searching for Tarik had nothing to do with either of these things so lets not waste time rehashing what we already know. This is the facts we have to work with and we have no energy to waste, Tarik is in mortal danger and I am asking for everyone to spend whatever resources and energy they have to find him. My recent contact with the animal communicator is that Tarik is hungry and is not finding food. He is cold at night and the temps keep dropping here. He is still wearing the prong collar and it is pinching him. All of this information is supported by the sightings. Tarik is in dire need of help, I will do my best to have as much supplies as possible available in the parking lot for volunteers. Please come help. Tarik is depending on it.
If you are unable to come to the search, please pray for Tarik he needs somebody higher than us to watch over him right now. If you can't come but can help by donating the supplies requested, please mail them to me at 4768 Manayunk Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19128. I am working on bringing tracking dogs in and we may need cash donations to cover those expenses, if so I will forward that information.
Thank you Permission to forward to anyone who can help is granted.

I have just copied TARIK'S info and sent it to many people I know in the "Media PA" area...I have also put TARIK on the international prayer list with MSIA for extra safe keeping. I came across a stray tonight in the dark while driving home...I tracked this big white dog with my car and my flashers on...but when he saw me following him, he ran into the woods near Franklin NJ. I called the police and after 45 minutes of walking the woods in the dark, the police came. I gave a description: long legs, WHITE short curly hair, tall like a golden or lab...the cop said "oh, that dog has been roaming around since June...no reports of any dogs missing, and he doesn't want to be caught."
IF ANYONE KNOWS ABOUT THIS DOG in the Franklin, New Jersey area, lost since JUNE, please let me know. I will look into placing information in the local papers there...he looked well fed, maybe people are feeding him? But it's getting COLD fast up here. Please keep this LOST WHITE DOG...and TARIK in your prayers for a safe and timely return to a warm loving home.
Ruby - I think these are two different dogs, but I may be mistaken.
Thanks Pam, I couldn't find the old posts..
If anyone has an update on Ticket, please pass it along. I desperately want one of these missing critters to be found soon.
Judi, I live about 15 min from Franklin, Where
did you see him? Maybe I will go down there with
my dogs and try and coax him to come to me
It is supposed to be in the 30's here in NJ tonight
BRRRR
Hey Ruby, why don't you take Dodger. How many
whippets do you have now?
As a matter of fact bloggers who all has wh ippets
on this blog? It would be fun to introduce all
of our sighthounds on this blog I have of course
my new whippet pup - Fiona, the brat who is now
6 months old, and my 7.5 yr old greyhound named
Scout
Come on don't be shy
Pam,
No update other than the sighting this morning. The radio station was suppose to say something again about Ticket at 2:05 today eastern time.
I don't have any sighthound to introduce, but when I'm looking for my next "addition", I'm going to have to consider them. I kind of feel left out.
(Just kidding!!!)
I have four greyhounds - Poppy - 7.5, her half sister Razzmatazz - 6.5, their cousin Bud - 4.5 and the baby - Stella - 15 months old. And then there is Baylee - my flat coated retriever who will be 10 in November.
Oh my - I stand corrected - please don't tell Poppy and Razz that I added a year to their ages - they are only 6.5 and 5.5 years old. I certainly don't need to make them older than they are - the time with them goes fast enough already.
My Catahoula Cindy Lou is basically a "sight" hound but not in your'all category - she isn't really a hound either but a cur, so I suppose she isn't included here. She's a tough cattle dog and woo's too. All black but a little white on her chest. One good thing about her is that her breed are glued to their owners and don't run away. Thank goodness!
My Whippet, Lady, will be 5 years old in December. She's the love of my life.
Sheila
Sue,
I have a 10 yr. old male Whippet and a 6 yr. old female. I'd love to have Dodge..except..if you read the letter, it sounds like his medical problems can't be solved with surgery. I don't know what it would entail care-wise..It seems it's not just a matter of caring for a dog with a broken leg, he has nerve damage..Poor boy, its going to be tough for someone to take him. I'll keep watching and see how it goes. I hope they can help him with the holistic vet, there will be no surgery according to the vet who checked him over.
I've been lurking here since the begining, and checking in daily. Waiting like the rest of you to see Vivi back home. We've got four whippets 2 boy's and 2 girls.
Paul - what are their names?
Zoe,Dee Dee,Tri,and Zinn. I started with Zoe then got Dee Dee from a unhappy home. Got the boy's last fall from a nice couple that were moving out of the country and could not take them. Tough for them and a blessing for us. We've got four terrific dogs!
Thanks Paul. All good names. Haven't heard Zinn before - but like it!
Welcome Paul,
I have 2 Whippets, a 10 yr. old male and a 6 yr. old female!
We're all hoping Vivi will be found, but it gets discouraging often. It's been 8 months plus...)o;
Paul - I like the names of your dogs. It shows some originality and uniqueness. I feel sorry for my dog named Mabel. My elderly next door neighbor was indignant when she found out what we had named that dog. I guess her best friend was named Mabel and she thought we were ridiculous!
Names of dogs are so important. Mabel is a fine name. Shows character. I asked a Russian friend of mine about his dog, almost 200 pound German Shepherd, and he told me that in Russia, there are dog names - means nothing- just name for dog. But when he spoke of his dog, it was with great love. Of course, I don't know anything about Russian dog names, we take names from everything and everywhere and make some up too.
Hey Ruby, Maybe we can do a fund raiser for
Dodger if you take him. Good Lord we have raised
enough money for Vivi who is GOD knows where at
this point. I am up for it
Hi Ticket was seen this morning in Cedartown, GA. Just wanted everyone to know that my son said he would leave some food out and take his crate and some things there to catch our scent and leave them there. Jared has school tonight so I doubt we will hear anything more until morning unless Ticket is captured and safe tonight. Thanks so much for your help.
Hey Kathy, I had loads of greyhounds before I
was introduced to whippets. I love greyhounds, and
was very involved in a greyhound rescue group in
the 90's that placed over 3000 greys into homes.
I just got burned out when my past 3 greys succumbed
to osteosarcoma, it nearly killed me. And then
I lost my precious Nell ( whippet) to cancer
so now I just hold every day precious with my
needle noses. As we speak, the dogs are out, and
of course the grey comes running back to the door
to be let in, and knuckle head Fiona is still
running thru the yard with reckless abandon.
GOD I love sighthounds !!
Pam, we had a German Shepherd years ago that we named "Bonnie". I had an Aunt Bonnie and she told us she hoped our Bonnie lived up to the good name..lol
I have a friend who named her dog "Two", meaning she had another GSD with the same name who died so she named the new pup the same name with "Two" after the name and always called her TWO..
I put rocks around my fences, good sized one each about five pounds and made a double row - to prevent my Catahoula from digging out - she is prone to dig after rats (ick!) and loves to chase about the yard trying to catch stuff. All I need is a rat to scoot under the fence and she'd be hot on its trail. It's hard to relax with her loose out back.
Good luck finding Ticket Mary! Sounds like it could happen tonight! I hope so!
Mary Prayers that Ticket is captured tonight
Bring the love Ticket home safe tonight - I'll light candles for Mary and Ticket.
ruby - I also had a friend who named several of his dogs the same name: Peggy! I don't remember if he kept track of the number as well. They were all of the black lab/mutt mix.
Good luck everyone with catching the dogs. Maybe they will stay put - something we wish little miss Vivi would do!
Hi everyone,
I hope everyone is well today. Just reading the blog and my heart goes out to all those poor lost fur babies out there and also for our sick babies, too. To each and every one of them and the wonderful, caring foot soldiers I want to offer this prayer:
A Prayer for Animals
Hear our prayer O Lord ... for animals that are overworked, underfed, and cruelly
treated; for all wistful creatures in captivity that beat their wings against bars;
for any that are hunted or lost or deserted or frightened or hungry; for all that
must be put to death. ... And for those who deal with them we ask a heart of
compassion and gentle hands and kindly words.
Please be safe and God Bless,
Laura
I have 2 sisters (Whippets) Dixie (fawn) & Trixie(brindle/white partycolor) I thought they might have trouble differentiating their names, but not at all. Thinking about getting a Pixie...I've been reading & praying for Vivi since day 1, and thank you all for all you have done and continue to do!!!!!!
I have two Whippet boys right now. Jasper's 9 and Tanner will be 7 years in January. In my adult life, Whippets are the only dogs I've ever had.
Deb - I like that. Dixie, Trixie & Pixie would be a great trio!!
Matthew 6:26"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them."
28 "See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
33"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

Help us first to remember that we are Your hands and feet on earth, and that as we petition You, we must also work for Your kingdom on earth!
We pray this night,Father, that You continue Your watch over Vivi, Bowdee, Ticket,Tarik, Butttons,Biggie,Sniffles,Holly, African Grey, Faithful (the little girl's seizure dog), Buddy, Rags, Precious, Whippet Annie, so that not even “one paw slips”. We lift up the following people in need of Your healing:Renee, Pam,Millicent,Jacque, JL, Lance, Madison, Kathleen's Mom Mary,Chris, and Abby.
God of Power, stand behind Tammie and Doogie, Duke and Denise, and Otis' followers, as they have stood behind these animals, until justice is done.Thank you so much for helping us find a good home for Kristy and help us to find a good home for Tashia, and little Pablo. Thanks forDuke's and Bobbie's new homes.
Be with all who mourn tonight. Greet all, human and animal alike, who will make the journey to Paradise this night. Reward our faithful animal companions who have gone ahead. Let all who are homeless know Your love, and ours, too.
Send your angels and saints to work with Vivi's angels. These NYC volunteers, and their compassionate leaders;Tina,Rosa, and Bonnie, serve as Your compassionate presence on earth. Don't let them become discouraged. Let them know that prayer wise "we've got their back"!
Let our faith grow as a result of this experience! Restore as we sleep, Heavenly Father, as we turn over the night watch to you! YOU ARE IN CHARGE! AMEN!

Good Morning
I have never had a sight hound and have learned much from reading about them here. I have six rescued dogs. One is a large chichihua about 13 pounds. We have always called him needle nose since his nose is so long and is always into something. So maybe I have an honorary whippet. HaHa.
Hi Everyone,
I don't have Whippets. I have a Border Collie named Cowboy (or Boogers), a schnauzer mix name Beamer who's turning 13 next week and a new puppy, Scooter, or Scoots who is part shitzu and part Italian Greyhound. I call him a "Shiggy", get it? My husband calls him Rod Stewart Jr. because his hair on his head looks like Rod Stewart's!

Ruby - that is so funny - my neighbor has a dog named Two also -for the same reason!!!! SueG - yes I have become infatuated with greyhounds although I see a whippet in my distant future. Two of my girls are small and people sometimes thing they are big whippets. Paul - my son in law's name is Zen!!!
I knew a dalmation cross named 52 but for the life of me I can't remember why she had that name.
I'm going to have to tell my parents they are going to have to rename their cat. Years ago, when I still lived at home, I talked them into letting me get a cat. We had picked out some dignified name for him but my dad nicknamed him Oops because he was always trying to get away from being held. Anyway, just before he had to be put down, my grandfather had adopted this female stray cat and she kept having kittens of course. Well, my mom and I took home the tamest of her last litter and didn't tell my dad until we got home. Well, he wasn't too pleased. Within a day or two when we still hadn't named the cat yet, my dad said he had to be Oops 2 so we knew he was now a part of the family. Now after 10 years, it's funny to see when he's out calling for the cat in inclement weather because he's worried about him. The cat sleeps with him on his side of the bed.
Kathy in CO - Did the blizzard hit you yet? The forecaster this morning said there were going to be blizzard warnings in Colorado today. YIKES!! I hope it goes south of where I live!!
When I was a little girl, my dog Freckles and I would go for walks together.
She'd walk ahead of me, like she owned the place, and trot under a pedestrian pathway, cars would go overhead, not many people took this route. I don't remember though where it led - maybe I'll remember tomorrow.
It was wonderful growing up with her. This time of year brings back such great memories of my life in Port Hueneme.
Nothing better than wonderful childhood memories!!
Snow is supposed to come in tonight around rush hour - figures!!! but be gone by Thursday evening. My friend is freaking out as she is getting married Friday night and is afraid that people wouldn't come but I reassured her that it should be all gone by then.
Does anybody know of any updates on Ticket or Tarik? If there's any information, please pass it along. Thanks.
My dog Freckles used to eat out of trash cans at the park.
She'd put her paws up on the rim and her head down and would snag tasty leftovers and rip the paper apart and have a feast. Then she'd sit near the bushes and watch us play.
The joy of childhood made it all so special. I'm waiting for Vivi news.
Our boy's were named by thier previous owners. Tri is some type of score in ether kricket or lacrosse, and Zin is short for Zinfindel they big wine people. Zin is a red brindle.
Paul,
Zin short for Zinfindel - that sounds about right - and a red brindle sure fits too! Zin sort of sounds like sin but better.
Zin is such a wonderful dog 42lbs and he loves to sit on your lap. Really both the boy's are the same way on your lap is the best spot. Our girls are happy to be next to you. I think that difference is common with Whippets.
Oh, 42 pounds seems big - must be all muscle and a real lov. Does he kiss your fcheek while he's on your lap?
My dogs when they sit up close want to give kisses.
oops...cheek ...the "f" is a typo! Yikes.
That might be in other dogs, too. My cousin has Russian Wolfhounds (Borzoi?) I can't spell that word. When she introduced them to me for the first time, the male tried to sit on my lap while the females were content to stand and get a pat on the head.
My Cindy Lou (female and called Cin for short) gives kisses and sits up close but not on my lap. Her 60 lb body is too big for my lap. She snuggles in bed though as close as she can get.
Zin's not to much of a kisser he likes to nussle his nose on my shoulder or between my knees. Zoe on the other hand is the supreme kisser any time any place she can, and even better if she get to my face.
Nothing better than doggie kisses - the more the merrier, and nothing better than doggie snuggles on a cold night.
No cold nights even in norther mi with four whippies under the covers in a queen size bed.
Oh I hear that - natures own heating pad those sweet hearts beating. I bet it even gets too hot at times for them. My girl has to come out for cool air she heats up the covers so much. Sometimes it's a circus - with Cin like a yoyo trading places.
I bet you have lots of four-dog nights there.
To anyone interested in an update on the Whippet Dodge I posted about, here is a link for the update. Just scroll all the way down to the bottom.

He is such a sweet brave boy... I hope someone will consider a special needs Whippet. He'll probably need some kind therapy the rest of his life.
What a sweet boy Dodge is..........and what a tough time he has been thru - I pray a good family will adopt him and continue the care he will need.
Just received this reply to my email about the 2 greys in the NY ASPCA:
Hi -- thanks for your concern but this comes up periodically. I
believe --
someone correct me if I'm wrong -- that the New York SPCA has been
educated
in Greyhounds and greyhound adoption and sometimes even takes
greyhounds
from adoption groups to get them more exposure. They are not amatures
and
the dogs do not need to be rescued from them... they've had a good
enough
relationship with some adoption groups that they do know all about
Greyhounds.
That being said, most shelters we would like to get greyhounds out of
because they don't really know about Greys --- however in the case of
this
ASPCA, someone's already done the information education and PR work :-)
Sage in RI
Thanks Kathy, I am relieved that Apollo and Adonis are with a shelter group that is schooled in sighthounds and giving these guys more exposure to being adopted and are in no danger of being euthenized (which was my worry)!!
It looks like Dodge is doing much better than expected and will mostly heal with time. Dodge deserves a very loving and special home that will meet his medical and emotional needs. If Dodge has folks out there looking for him I pray they find him.
Just saw this post if anyone is in this area:

Here's some more lost pets and this is an updated link. I'd like to see all the Katrina pets found and returned. I keep thinking about our sweet Isabella - God bless her heart. There's every breed male and female on this page - just like in Noah's ark.
And for those interested in Isabella, I had some great new photos of her and she is gaining weight and her sores are healing - she's a champ! Pray too that the people there continue to care for and look after these New Orleans animals that are still hiding during the day and breeding and birthing feral dogs with little available resources to nuture their bodies.
That's great news about Isabella. I've been wondering how she's doing. Some Katrina dogs have come up here and luckily are getting placed in good homes. Can you put Isabella's new pictures on here? So many animals still out there that need help.
Has there been any news on Tarik? It's by my hometown.
Hey people, don't forget to check Duke's site and sign the petition.
Otis the Greyhound mix needs more signatures also. The guy who hur Otis is in jail. He'll have a pre-trial hearing on teh 4th of Nov. of there abouts. (I was happy to hear the guy had his jaw broken and some ribs broken since he's been in jail! You abuse and you get what you deserve!)Don't read the story I wrote at the bottom of the petition, just sign it.There are 3,207 signatures, thanks to you guys! You can sign the petition without reading it, its pretty gross.

ALSO:::
Little Duke the Pitbull still needs letters and signatures. I don't know when his court date is yet, but the ralley had to be put off. The 7th the courthouse will be closed.Dukes site is sweet!

Oh, I don't think I still have them in my e-mail. They were sent to Denise Flaim in hopes that she would put them on the blog for all to see. I'll try to get them again. I still have her little thin body on my frig so I never forget how much they need my help.
Susan,
I asked Bobby Frame, who sees Isabella, to send me some new photos of her as I can't locate the other ones. So, we'll see if we can get some new ones soon.
I do believe we are waiting for news on Tarik.
The latest on Dodge, the injured Whippet is that the vet has decided against surgery. The dog has damaged nerves and she said it is best, not to mess with that, he might be a little "crooked", but thats better than severing a nerve. They are asking for donations to help pay for his care. A gal takes him home with her every night.
For those of you who have asked for the address of the vet caring for Dodge, here it is:
Dr Nancy Modglin
Holistic Options Veterinary Care
25837 Business Center Drive
Redlands Ca 92374
909-796-4277
It's heartwarming to hear about the Katrina dogs being adopted to loving homes. So many wonderful people have opened their lives and homes to these poor misplaced animals and continue to care months after the disaster.
Mary, one of the ladies that is caring for Dodge, is the breeder of three of my Whippets. Two of those Whippets have passed, but I still have one from her, Jasper.
I haven't seen her for years and am thinking of paying her a visit instead of sending my donation by mail... that way I could meet Dodge and give him a big hug.
Dodge's vet, Dr Modglin, used to be my dogs vet when I lived closer. She's great, very caring.
Thanks, Sedona. I'd like to see how Isabella is improving. She is such a cutie. Thank goodness those people are there to care for these poor animals. Hopefully the cycle of breeding can be lessoned if they can spay or neuter those they find. Now if only Miss Vivi would go dine at a feeding station and leave her pretty pawprints.
The organization helping the Katrina pets is:
Southern Animal Foundation
1823 Magazine St.
New Orleans,
La 70130.
Donations to help their continuing effort to rescue, treat, and find homes for these lost and forgotten pets can be sent to the above address. And I do believe, it is also tax deductible. They send a nice thank you follow up letter too!
Susan,
If you get to meet Dodge, give him a hug and a kiss for me! I just hope his people are found. I wonder if he was maybe stolen and lived in another state..Makes me think I should get my Whippers chipped right away!
