Thanks Bonnie (and Denise too, of course) for the update. If the people in New York think this is a "long, hard, dry spell," you can only imagine what we long-distance folks are feeling. Very sad and discouraged for myself, but this gives me renewed hope.

God is indeed testing my patience right now - and I'm afraid I am failing His test miserably.

Kathleen, sad and discouraged just about describes how I'm feeling right now. Very sad and discouraged. However! Having said that, I'm mailing out flyers to real estate offices in Rego Park (thanks to Marty for leading up that effort!) and faxing flyers to area businesses. Let's keep up the work!

Thanks Bonnie for at least a little encouraging news. Kathleen - I don't think I'm failing, I think I've flunked His test. But, everyday brings new possibilities.

We may have aissed some Vet's in the area because Trylon Vet CAre said they never recieved any flyers so I left a flyer and cards.But then they have a Forest Hills address 98-87 Queens blvd Forest Hills , NY 11374 could be this missed the fax and it went the way of the trash as happens sometimes. Just to let you all know so you can check up on it. Sorry forgot who is doing Vets. Thanks

I just got back from vacation and am catching up with the blog. I noticed that all the possible sightings lattley have happened on a Thursday.

I've had Whippets for years and of course don't think they look like Dalmatians... but, I can't tell you how many times I've been walking my Whippets and kids always come up to me asking me if they are Dalmatians.

The second sighting, if the two men are looking right at her picture and saying they just saw that dog... seems to me they must of seen something that looks very much like her.

I sure hope it can be arranged to bring a tracker in soon... it is really needed to confirm these sightings.

I think the garbage gets put out in this area on a Thursday -- maybe that would explain the Thursday sightings?

Garbage nights nights are Monday and Friday, which means that people put out their garbage Sunday night and Thursday night. Next Thursday around 6:00 pm you will know where to find me!!

That's a great idea, Kathleen! We should get a bunch of people in the area -- not looking too obvious (don't want to scare her off), but just hanging around. Kathleen, I'm not at all familiar with this area -- but I heard it's not a particularly great area. Is that true? It looks like there are some major roads very near by, too.

Not true Beth! The area is just fine.. Most of the buildings in the area are multiple apartment house, could even be condo's or co-ops. A bunch of smaller private houses also. A few blocks away are larger, very expensives homes that I would not be suprised if they go for 1Mil...

Streets are clean and the people seem nice. I kind of get the impressions that alot of Russians and Jewish people live there from their accents and the store signs. Police vans were patrolling the area all the while we were around probablyn because there are alot of people living in those complexes and alot of darks alleys behind them. Never never be too careful. I thought I read on the blog that there is a high crime rate in Rego Park, this is probably because the large volumne to people living there would increase the percentage of having a high crime rate. If an area has only individual private homes even if they had a high crime rate and percentage would seem lover.

Kathy, Vivi has always been in areas with parks near by... does this area have any parks or cemeteries were she would hang out?

I just get this feeling that is was her, I hope I'm right. It has been a long time and I'm a little depressed to ... but I couldn't give up now, these sightings are good, and even better the calls are coming in. Praying for that little girl and all the people working so much for Vivi. keeping the faith...

Very, very close to Flushing Meadow Park just a Vivi hop skip and jump... Lots of schools and children. Vivi seems to like children..

I was thinking that, too. I thought about the fact that she likes children when I heard that it was a child that said he saw her. That makes sense. Gosh, it would be nice to be able to confirm through scent that she is in the area.

I know that sightings haven't been confirmed, but makes some sense she could be there because it seems it's following in the circle she's been traveling in. It seems possible she could of been in this area for weeks while people were still looking for her in forest park.

Plenty of people, and I'd think especially kids, only know the dogs they have seen in the movies. To us a whippet and a dalmation look nothing alike, but to a dog-novice child I could see that. Short haired and unusual looking with funny speckles. It seems possible. Ever since my friend's 80 lb pit bull was identified by a national park employee as a beagle I have been reminded not to count on people to know breeds.

I totally agree with you on the misidentification of dogs, especially by children. Last Halloween one child asked if my Toy Fox Terrier was a dalmation. I told him Roxie was a very small one!
Guess we are all so hopefull that this little child had seen Vivi and he may well have!

Before Vivi I would have seen a Whippet and said, Mmmm, does not exactly look like a Greyhound, but what is it??

People think Min Pins are Smaller Dobermens, which I think they are not. Am I right about this?

They are cute things. I know one in agility named Timmy that does all kinds of tricks on his skinny little legs.

Kathleen, I'm relieved to hear that the area is okay. Don't like to think about you all wondering around in marginal areas. Of course, it's good to be cautious in any area.

Non Dog people don't have a clue about breeds. Even if they see the flyer, then see a dog that has short hair and is sorta white, they will think it is her. Or it can work the other way and they might see Vivi and describe her as a total different breed.

Years ago, I was walking my English Springer Spaniel out of Madison Square Garden across the street to Hotel Pa. when a group stopped to admire her (she was liver and white) and one in the group said THAT IS A CHESAPEAKE BAY RETRIEVER. He never asked me and I never tried to change his mind....because he KNEW what she was!

Ya and I love the people that see me with my Red Dobe Colby and say THAT IS A FULL SIZED MIN-PIN.

I don't blame them, it is just hard for us that sit ring side watching the groups and know all the breeds in all the groups!

Someone asked if my Border Collie was a Saluki.

A lady in the Vets office one day asked me if Rosie (Lhasa Apso) as a beagle! Now that is way off!!

That's a forehead smacker. And she was sitting in a vet's office which implies she has some kind of animal.

It was an Asian women who did not speak very good English. She was holding a Maltese..

Most people think the English Springer Spaniel is a Cocker Spaniel.

When I walk whippets Trixie (brindle/white) and her sister Dixie (fawn/white)the guessing runs the gamut from chihuahua to basset hound (!) and I also get a lot of :"FEED YOUR DOGS LADY!!"

I have spent a lot of time explaining that my Min Pin is not a MiniDoby - He is his own specail breed - At this time he has a tumor in his tummy and we go for an ultra sound on Monday to see what we can do. His name is SKEETER and he is on the prayer list, he has a candle as Skeet - He is a great little boy that way mistreated severely until he came to live with us 10 1/2 years ago. After handling any doggy treats wash hands immediately because most dog treats carry salmonella. While it doesn't harm the dog, in humans it could lead to gastro intestinal problems.

So happy to hear of some possible sightings of our little Vivi! I also have had many people ask if my whippet was a Jack Russel, very rarely does someone even know what a wippet is, thier first guess is usually a "race dog" which I know they mean Greyhound, Praying for our little girl!!

I had one person ask if my whipptets were Great Danes!? I also have had people come up and the first thing they will say is "AWWWWWW" Are they sick? "No" "They are so skinny, are you sure?"
Sometimes, you can tell what the person is going to ask,just by looking at their face expressions.

I have communicated with Mila, and both Bonnie and Monica checked on this doggie. Unfortunately, this was not Sniffles. Mila was very disappointed I could tell - but she will find Sniffles. I have faith in Mila for sure.

Yesterday my dream came true. My godchild had her baby, and it was the little girl with dark hair I had dreamed about while in Chicago. She weighed 6 lb 15 oz and was born at 6:15 pm (strange, huh). She was 19.5 inches long. Mom and baby are doing great, and they named her Madelyn Denise.

Sure wish I could have such an accurate dream about Vivi. They just happen though - it is not a case of me willing a vision or anything like that. They just occur "out of the blue" so to speak.

Congratulations on your 'grand godchild'? Kathleen! That would be sweet if you could ber her (grand) godmother also!
It was terribly sad when this pup at the AC&CC was not Sniffles. The picture of Beetle Juice was almost an identical match to Sniffles, but Monica and Bonnie said in real life this dog was absolutely not Sniffles. Heck, I was making plans to drive to NYC to pick him up! Next time it will be Sniffs.

Bigs hugs and kisses to Bonnie and Monica for making the trip to the Brooklyn shelter to see this guy. I know it was very hard for both of them to leave the shelter without a pup under each arm. Monica fell in love with 2 pit bull puppies and Bonnie had a hard time walking away from a german shepherd puppy.

I have sent out a request to alot of NYC area shelters to try to find a place for Beetle Juice. Thought it was the least we could do for the sweet guy. Hope he finds a good home as well as the shepherd puppy and the puppy pit bulls (all of the shelter dogs for that matter).

Mila - You are saving one at a time, and each one is more precious than the previous one. You forgot to thank yourself for all the hours you spend looking at those sweet little faces while looking for Sniffles, Biggie and Vivi. This is not an easy task - I tried it myself and cried hard several times.

I will post this again, people PLEASE PUSH FOR SPAY/NEUTER so we can hopefully end euthanization of these little creatures. Please!

I heard a success story in the search for a whippet that finally came to an area where other whippets were being stationed.

I don't know if that has been tried yet...but maybe since whippets tend to like their own, if volunteers could be taken that might be able to station or walk whippets in areas of recent sitings...

I was depressed, along with everyone here on the blog, that we didn't have any sightings in a while, but now hearing of a couple in the same general area gives me a renewed hope that our little lady is ok. When I read 108th streeet I felt it had to be her. That's very close to Flushing Meadow Park...near the Lemon Ice King? (for out of towners the opening segment of King of Queens is shot on 108th St. adjacent to Flushing Meadow Park, where we hope Vivi is hanging out). So her travel circle seems to be getting smaller. This is a good time to get those trackers in there. Let's hope they can open their schedules and get to NY. It's getting colder and we're coming up on 8 months of little Vivi fending for herself.

Jason - Very good idea. I always fear someone else's dog will get away though while trying to help Vivi. When I spoke with Rick, I suggested bringing the dogs to New York that Vivi had bonded with (the dalmation). The only problem, they understandably do not want to fly with the dogs now and it is such a long trip from California. Somehow I feel another animal might have more luck than we humans are having.

I know Bonnie and the group are working very hard on finding a tracker right now from what I have heard. Between schedules and illnesses they are having a hard time it seems. They will get one though I'm sure.

Off the subject for a moment. Someone on the blog mentioned an oil that you could add to dogs food if they were constipated. I think it way Olive Oil. I have a 12 lb. chichihua that is having a little trouble. Thanks for the info.

With a tiny dog, I'd call the vet in the a.m. and ask.
Exercise is also important to keep dogs regular.
I don't know about Cod Liver Oil, I'd use olive or mineral over that I think..also make sure your dog is giving enough time outside to do his/her business.

Cod Liver Oil would work :) I think that is what my mother said her parents gave her and her 10 siblings every Sunday morning with a slice of orange! (My Mother passed last year at the wonderful age of 90)
Mineral Oil will work too. I gave that to a Springer puppy that decided to eat a bunch of stones when he was 3 months old. He passed them without a problem!
But I agree, be sure you are in touch with a vet. Sometimes it is a blockage that needs more than the oil.

Thanks for the info. He gets it about half way out and cannot finish. Then he gets scared because he thinks something is after him. Kind of funny in a way.

Jacque is slowly progressing. Her left hand and arm are far from normal. She is doing therapy twice a week. She also gets tired real easy and has to rest alot, but she is staying in school until 1:00, which is good. It is just going to take a long time. Some of it she will never get over. Even if she can use her left arm it will always be very weak. But thank God, she is alive.

I would like to ask any New Yorkers on the blog if this latest sighting is anywhere near the Trylon Theater on Queens Blvd?? There is a 610ft obelisk alongside this building and there is a movement to try and save this theater and monument. If it is, post some flyers there. Back on Sept 23, here is a part of what I posted about what I was thinking about Vivi while watching the US Open. You can go back on the blog and check it out if this is anywhere near where Vivi was sighted.

I had a beagle, The Boy, who always ate grass, well ate anything and everything 24/7. He also was afraid because the poop wouldn't let go of him so he always ran from it. It was really funny.

Today Lois T and I posted the crap out of where the last sightings were, we found a pedestrian footbridge that goes right into Flushing park close to where the last sighting was that never knew it existed. If this is how she travels we got the area covered and hope someone walking their dog will spot her, they would be blind not to see the flyer, they are on just about every telephone pole and lighpost both sides. When we post we make sure the photo is implanted into your brain.

Rosa and Tina rescued an approx 7 months old black lab mix that needs a home, BJ is currently fostering him till we can find a home, we are all working on getting this sweet fellow a forever home, he is non aggressive, likes dogs, potty trained and is the sweetest boy. You can take food right out of his mouth, I had him taking treats right out of my mouth and putting my hand is his food bowl while he ate to test his temperment. He passed every test we gave him. If anyone knows of anyone wo can take him let us know, I have photos of him and he is gorgeous, we hate to have to put him in a shelter.

I still don't know about cod liver oil and dogs. I'd call the vet tomorrow..Those little dogs, it seems to me, aren't as hardy as the big guys.

I have a scottie. I've had people (sometimes kids, sometimes adults) mistake her for all sorts of things. I've been asked if she's a poodle (!), a miniature schnauzer, a standard schnauzer, a black westie (she's dark brindle, incidentally, even if westies came in black), a lab, a border collie, and a beagle (!).

I'm sure most non-dog people, and even some dog people, have no idea what a whippet is. Some don't even know what a greyhound is, other than a bus.

Heck, most people don't seem to know what brindle is. (My favorite is when a co-worker asked me, "Is brindle a dog color?")

I'm thinking she hides out and hunts the parks and has learned that garbage day is like a buffet. I think it's a great idea to look around Rego Park on garbage days. Too bad I'm too far away to help. Vivi and all her searchers remain in my thoughts and prayers.

funny you mention brindle as a color - I had my light brindle greyhound at a dog park once and a lady came up to me and said - Wow she looks like a tiger - how did you get her to look like that???? I came this close to saying I painted her!!!!
