Vivi searchers were out in force this weekend, including Rick Patterson, the fiancee of Vivi ci-owner Jil Watson, fresh from California; greyhound recovery expert Michael McCann of Massachusetts; and detection-dog handler Laura Totis, who had searched for Vivi before in other neighborhoods.
Unfortunately, a canvassing of the pond area in Forest Park yielded no "hits" by the search and rescue dogs. The dogs did show some interest in the nearby golf course, but the scent likely was not fresh.
Film recorded at one of the Forest Park feeding stations showed a small white dog and her larger companion chowing down. Unfortunately, the white dog was not Vivi, and there are concerns that some previous sightings may have been of this dog.
Given that Vivi has not been sighted in weeks, two conclusions are possible: One, that she has moved on and is in another area. Or two, she has whelped puppies in the vicinity and is staying close to them.
Searchers are in the process of obtaining a "bionic ear" hearing amplifier, in the hopes of hearing Vivi if she is bedded down in the adjacent acreage or graveyards.
Pet detective Karin Goin is expected to arrive later this week to help track down the little whippet that has, in McCann's words, "broken all the rules" as to how runaway sighthounds are supposed to behave.

For what it is worth, I still sense a Vivi connection, and she is not near the golf course anymore.

I'm with all of you too. We can't give up on Vivi now, and most of us won't. Last time Karin was here she was on to something hot, maybe this weekend will be a HOT weekend . Lets just leep our fingers crossed and our paryers going, also keep the faith . She is out there somewhere....
We have prayed and worked too hard to rescue this sweet little girl, and I do not believe God would not answer our prayers.

I posted earlier that I was wondering if all the rain in NYC would impede the search efforts for Vivi. Just answered my own question!
Was looking through the website for Harry Oakes, a well known searcher/tracker for lost pets and children. Under FAQ's, he answers the question of the effect of heavy rains on a search and this is REALLY good news!
"Rain actually helps search capabilities. Rain refreshes the scent and brings it closer to the surface so the dogs can smell it. Rain keeps search dogs' nasal passanges moist so they can hold the scent longer."
I feel relieved to have found this information, really by accident...maybe all of this rain will help the searchers to find our little whippet soon!

Well I'm glad the experts knew what I was talking about a while back about the bionic ear and are going to get one. Hopefully this will work.
Laura: If this was mentioned previously, I missed it...it's certainly inexpensive and anything and everything needs to be tried.
Although I get really crazy thinking she could be trying to care for newborn pups out there, they do make sounds and little noises...this would sure be helpful.

Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking, little pups making whimpering sounds.
I think thats how they found the cemetery pups, crying noises that a neighbor behind the place heard. Thats about the only good thing about Vivi having pups, maybe she'll settle and be found. I think she may have pretty much settled already and she'll be rescued very soon! I'm lighting candles, praying and keeping everything crossed! I love that doggie like a lot of you do.

That is good to hear about the rain strenghtheing the scent. Hopefully Karin's dogs will pick up her scent and the bionic ear will pick up any sounds that could be her pups. I was puzzled by Bonnie's post....the man who startled her when he said he just stepped on a twig and snapped it, said they stared at each other for a couple of seconds (guess they startled each other!). That seems to me a good opportunity to know what you saw and Vivi doesn't really look like most other dogs out there....when she bolted away, she would look like a small greyhound and different than most stray dogs...I would think.
Then, again, I don't know what to think anymore. It is what it is and we just have to pray we can find her and if she's huddled with newborn pups, it should slow her down, but the thought is breaking my heart totally.

Far as I can recall, the last time Vivi was sighted was about 3 weeks ago. She was sighted twice, I believe, within a few hours in the Forest Park area. First by a man walking on a path who stepped on a twig and a startled Vivi appeared. He said they stared at each other for a couple of seconds and then she bolted off. Later than afternoon, a woman reported sighting her in about the same area.
Don't hold me to the number of weeks, but I think it is about 3 weeks since that happened. Those sightings came after a month of nothing and was a relief.

The only concern about those last sightings for me is it's said in the Vivi weekend recap that they think those last sightings might of been of the white dog they have on film eating in one of the feeding stations.
I belive she's out there somewhere and I'm praying the dogs will be able to pick up her scent.

The thing that bothers me is Bonnie said today that the white dog that has been eating the food maybe the dog the people thought they saw in Forest Park. I sure hope it was ViVi.

I think the volunteers only go on how the person describes the dog they see. If the description is of ViVi then I think they will say it's a sighting.
She is still out there. She has the will to live. We just have to keep the prayers and candles going and hope like hell Karin picks up a strong scent when she arrives.

I don't see the US Open Tennis matches having any impact on Vivi if she is still in the Forest Park area....the US Open is at Flushing Meadows...crowds coming and going there wouldn't impact the Woodhaven and Metro Avenue area and Forest Park....

I went through and lit candles. There are so many I sure hope I haven't skipped anyone. I made a list and put it in Excel so I could put them in alphabetical order and that has helped. But I need to put their group name on it so I will have all the right information.

My kitty, Bowdee, is missing - he scooted out the door this weekend when my grandbaby was over and hasn't come home - this is so unlike him - he is not an outdoor kitty and when he does go out, he lays on the patio and suns himself and is right back inside. I am very worried about him.

I called the shelter and they have one black male kitty there but unless you go see, it's hard to tell if it is him or not - hoping my daughter will run over there for me since I am at work and of course they are open the same hours I am working.

Kathy, from what I've read from searchers like Harry Oakes and Carl Washington, unlikes dogs, cats USUALLY stay VERY close to home when they go lost like yours...they are most of the time almost within earshot of home...scared and hiding. Please go out into the neighborhood, calling his name or whatever sounds you make to get him to come at home. Don't give up.....do it as many times a day as you can....he will follow the sound of your voice. Put SIGNS and pictures up and tell ALL of your neighbors. if the cat is friendly, will be easier. I had the same thing happen to me Christmas Eve day 3 years ago when my 14 year old Krisi got spooked and ran out the door when I was having a chair delivered....it was horrible and took me 13 hours to find her....I walked the neighborhood, with a flashlight, calling her name softly and encouraging her....13 hours later in the middle of the night, I heard her meow in answer to my call. It got closer and finally, she was at my feet in the yard next door to me....it was Christmas Morning and the best gift I have ever gotten in my whole life.
Go out and look for him....call him and don't stop, please do it now, don't wait. He is terrified and hiding....
I'm sorry to hear the news of Karin not coming. It's hard to accept becuase it was so close to that time, on the other hand, we want her dogs to pick up a scent, I know think she wants them to do their best but she also doesn't want them to get sick or anymore stressed out than they are, us animal lovers have to understand that. I talked to Karin way ,way back in the early stages of this saga and she loves pets, I know she wants Vivi to be found too. Lets pray for her dogs, maybe some ralxation time for them will bring us a great reward. Keep the faith .

Kathy, can you leave a window up part way or your garage door open enough for the cat to get in? How about putting the crate you use out with food for the kitty? I lost a cat one night and we searched for hours, I left a side bathroom door open and he came running in! Good luck!
Kathy, really, leave a window open just enough for the kitty to get in. Cats seem to hide a lot so walk around calling Boweeeeeee! My neighbors dog found one of my cats when he got out one time..A Golden sniffed the cat out, across the street from his house.

IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN, BRIAN HAS GENEROUSLY DONATED LIVING QUARTERS FOR HARRY AND HIS DOG...WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO COME UP WITH MONEY FOR THE FIRST CLASS PLANE TICKET FOR HARRY AND OBVIOUSLY HIS FEES. IT'S A BIG CHUNK OF CHANGE BUT WE'VE DONE IT BEFORE AND I AM CONFIDENT WE CAN DO IT AGAIN - BECAUSE WE ROCK.
I will use the numerical "tag" system that Terri had mentioned when posting amounts received on the blog. Even if it is $5 it would be greatly appreciated...if you can send more, that would be great too. EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS! I know that we've all put a lot of effort and finances into the finding of OUR VIVI. We've done it before and we can do it again.

A SIDE NOTE...Tucker survived his needle biopsies and I should have the results next week some time. I'm going to "assume" they are negative until I am told otherwise. He's on HIS chair right now with his little stuffed hedgehog - adorable.
