After more than two weeks without a sighting, Vivi resurfaced yesterday. A passerby saw her at the intersection of Metropolitan Avenue and Woodhaven Boulevard in the Glendale, Queens, neighborhood that Vivi seems to have made her temporary home.
The passerby indicated that Vivi was only using three legs. According to Vivi's owners, the athletic whippet would sometimes come up lame when she overexerted herself and would recover within days. There is also the possibility that the city's hot asphalt streets have taken their toll on her pads.
Two feeding stations have been set up in the area, with a third one soon to come online. The video cameras at the stations are being checked twice a day.
Search coordinator Bonnie Folz adds that fliers and door hangers need distribution on Metropolitan Avenue, Woodhaven Boulevard and Yellowstone Boulevard. A group of dedicated searchers was out yesterday doing just that in the broiling weather. If you need fliers or door hangers, email Bonnie at pawsativebf@aol.com.
Twenty magnetic signs for local trucks will be ready in the next few days.
There's cheery news for the litter of nine puppies rescued from Montefiore Cemetery in Laurelton by Vivi searchers: Three have found permanent homes, and six are being fostered and nursed back to health at Bide-a-Wee in Wantagh. Vivi volunteers from near and far raised money for vet bills for their upper-respiratory infections, crates, toys and a donation to Bide-a-Wee.
"There are now nine Vivi angels on the ground," says Bonnie, adding that the " Bide-a-Wee bunch" has been given trees names, reflecting their place of birth, a hollow tree in the cemetery.
Good luck, girls Holly and Maple, and boys Spruce, Chestnut, Hickory and, uh, Elmer.
Also on the agenda: Trapping and spaying their mother, who is still living in the cemetery.

I am so happy to hear their was a sighting again. But I'm worried about her hurt leg and only using three legs. Maybe that's why she hasn't been out and about these two weeks. I doubt she can hunt hurt like this... if that's how she has been feeding herself. Trying to look on the positive maybe it'll make her go into the feeding stations to find food.
Please Vivi let yourself be caught now so you can go home!
Might sound stupid, but does anyone think maybe this might make it easier to catch Vivi (maybe she can't run as fast)? Hate to see her hurt, but maybe she could be caught? Please Vivi..go to someone.
Lets hope it's a simple injury. My dog had a broken toe and just used 3 legs. Of course Vivi could have a burr/sliver or anything in her foot. Which foot was she NOT using I wonder? Poor darling dog, she's got to stop hiding!
I am getting more pessimistic about this poor girl. I have always been upbeat the way she has been surviving but when she wasn't seen for nearly two weeks I was worried she may be hurt or gone from us. I'm sure many were. I now feel we are pressing our luck with every day that goes by without getting her. She is living in a very congested high traffic area. She is now injured if that was her.
If there was anyway to beg for about 100-200 New Yorkers in that area to turn out this weekend and canvass the area. I see from Yahoo maps it's near St Johns Cemetery too--maybe she is holed up in there somewhere.
I continue to pray for this girl and the many others that are lost. Now an escaped and missing whippet in a desolate area of Utah, an escaped and missing afghan in rural hills of Kentucky--showdogs all. I am half a country away and can only pray! If you can't get a dog back in Queens, how are they ever going to find the dogs that disappeared in wilderness areas!
Maybe Vivi is now looking for help. We pray fervently for her. We can't lose her after all this time.
Annie
Good
Annie - I know how you are feeling. I'm going to say goodnight right now to everyone, and go home and stay away from my computer by a mile. I just cannot stand to think of this being Vivi and how she may have gotten injured.
Maybe this will bring Sedona's prediction to pass. Maybe someone will finally be able to get her and take her for treatment to return home to her family. I pray so.... it is breaking my heart for sure!
Hey, I just noticed something on the yahoo maps section of the intersection mentioned in Queens of Metropolitan Ave and Woodhaven Blvd. There are tons or railroad tracks, and they look to be going around and through areas she has been spotted in since she has been lost. Does anyone think she may be using the rail beds/tracks to get around? Less congested than the streets. Are these on the ground or elevated in NY? Most are on the ground here which gave me the idea.
Annie
Annie,
I hope she's not traveling on the tracks, that sounds pretty dangerous to me. You could be right tho.I just wish I knew how bad her leg/paw is and how long she's had the problem. People are saying maybe her sore leg is why she's been hiding for awhile now. Poor doggie, I wish she knew how much we need to get her.
IT'S ALL GOOD NEWS...she may realizes she's more vulnerable now, if her paw or leg is injured, she may HAVE TO TRUST someone to survive. FOOD stations are set up, if she cannot hunt as well, she will find those stations and feed, VIVI IS A SURVIVOR!
The heat has been oppressive here "back east" and I do hope she is SICK AND TIRED OF BEING SICK AND TIRED and will do something different, like allow herself to walk into the lap of a "Vivi searcher" at last!
PICTURE THIS: I have printed a large picture of VIVI, I look at it every day in my office, I talk with her, tell her it's time to end her adventure and her wandering journey is done, time to get back home to California, go to a trustworthy "Vivi volunteer" and make a friend with them...soon you'll be back in Jil's arms! Wonder if more people did a similar visualization with VIVI's picture, that THIS ENERGY WILL FOLLOW THROUGH TO THOUGHT...to Vivi's consciousnes. Something's gotta give soon, let's all see her NEEDING ONE OF US TO HELP HER, PET HER, FEED HER and secure her. AHMEN...SHANTI...Peace, be still.
It would make it more difficult to catch prey too. Hopefully she will be more likely to scavenge or come to places where food is left out or be enticed by people eating. everybody carry a sandwich!!
This is really nerve wracking now!
Annie
I noticed on Gail Thomas' website that the sighting was mentioned at a "gas station." I wonder if she could have been hanging around there hoping someone would feed her. I have found strays often around these areas, and if I do not already have the food in my car I always make sure to go in and buy some dog food or cat food and leave for them to eat if they will not come to me.
My sons still laugh at how much dog and cat food I keep in the trunk of my car for this reason. My son wanted to take it out when I traded cars last time, but I told him, "No, that is the responsibility of the salesman to move the food from the old car to the new car if they want to sell me a car." Sort of like a "passage of rights" thing. I think it is a good luck charm myself for the new car.
Faith is to believe what you do not yet see; the reward for this faith is to see what you believe. -- Saint Augustine
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. -- Hebrews 11:1
Creator God, some may see only Vivi's injury in this and yet we may choose to believe it is through this injury that You will bring Vivi at long last home to Jil. You, Compassionate Shepherd will show us what we have believed all along-- that You love all of us, and it does matter that our faith in You will be changed and increased by the return of this beautiful and feisty girl. You have used this disappearance of Vivi to make us more aware of the help we need to provide for lost and homeless animals. Continue Your care and protection for Vivi, Biggie, and Sniffles, and also for Buddy,Rags, Precious Hosanna,Annie, Holly, Little Aussie, and our cemetary puppies' Mama. You have caused Your wonderful volunteers to adopt cats, kittens, dogs, and now 9 full of beans puppies. You have brought us togeth to pray for Your sick animals such as Barbaro, CJ.,Chippers, Dante, Trotter,Gunner, Murphy, Felice,Mylie, and McGee. We praise You for the healing that is taking place in them, and ask You to continue to Your Miracles in this group we love. We have prayed for the ill among us Madison, Baby Girl, Pam, JL, and Lance. Continue Your miraculous healing in Your people. We have mourned together the loss of many of our companion animals, most recently Kelly,Nell, Yoda, Scoops, Jade, Thunder and all our animal companions who have gone to wait with You since the beginning of the Vivi saga. (Please let Your angels fill in the names of any I might have missed-- the list has grown so long Father.) Be with all who mourn a loss of any sort, and support them with Friends and Your love. Thank You for the support we have felt from one another. Take into Your arms all people and animals who will join at the Gates of Paradise tonight! Reward all of our family and friends who are already there! We owe such a debt of gratitude for those who have sacrificed time, finances, and safety to look for these babies. Bless them "real good"! Keep them in Your protection, and guide them with Your Saints and Angels! Bless abundantly all who perform the difficult job of "rescue worker". Bless all of our vets with Your wisdom and skill. We pray with confindance Author of Creation that Your bring to a happy ending the Vivi story. Increase our faith and let us grow in Your life. Do not lose any of us, but bring us together (with our animal buddies) one day in Heaven. Let Vivi, Biggie, Sniffles, and the "Lost" animals, and all of us sleep peacefully, as we turn over the night watch to you. We know YOU ARE IN CHARGE!!! AMEN!

I feel better for reading your messages..... I have nothing but positive energy for Vivi and am glad to see so many positive messages. Yes, this little California girl is coming home soon. Keeping the Faith, Marnie in CA
And the good news continues...............
Dr. Kathleen Anderson, Barbaro's personal veterinarian during his racing days, gets a daily morning update. She said she has been encouraged by what she has heard, although Barbaro faces an additional six months at the hospital.
"That's the most disappointing part for all concerned," Anderson said last evening. "A broken leg is almost healed now. He would have become more ambulatory and been able to go to a field and rest. Now, it's six more months. No one thought he would be hospitalized eight months."
Anderson said the three most important questions facing Barbaro now are:
*Will he get laminitis in another foot - the front or even the broken rear right one?
* Can his comfort level be maintained through the months it will take to attempt to regrow his hoof - which is like a human waiting for a lost fingernail to grow out?
* How long will the regrowing of the hoof actually take?
"But, absolutely, other horses have done it," she said. "You just don't read about it because they're not famous. But it is definitely a doable process, and it is far less unusual than the 27 screws that put his right leg back together."
Anderson also said the report earlier this week that the fusion of the pastern was unchanged was actually an encouraging report.
"It meant there was no infection," she said. "If there was an ongoing infection, it would have deteriorated."
Kathy - You are an angel. Thank you for the post about Barbaro. I needed a real boost this morning.
Now my question, does anyone know if this latest sighting is definitely a confirmed sighting of Vivi? Thanks all.
I still pray for Vivi and check this site almost daily. I have faith that one day Vivi will be home.
***surfacing for some air***
I haven't been online much at all these past couple of weeks. I am glad to hear Vivi was spotted (albeit on 3 legs). I know that intersection and it is two very busy streets with mad traffic! I wish the person who spotted her would have investigated further (like try to follow her as she limped along) ... but we have to be thankful they at least called in the sighting! I am not happy that she is hurt, but like so many of you are saying, this could be the catalyst that leads to our little desperado's capture.
With love,
Tara from LI

Just found a new update from Gina about Madison. Here it is for everyone. Some good and some bad, but keep those prayers coming. She is smiling at least! Thank you all.

July 19
OK I know everyone has been dying for an update, so here I am! It took me a few days to get settled after my latest trip but I was also waiting for the doctor to call about the EEG report.
I finally got the call and it was actually the doctor who called. He told me that the movements that Madison has been making that John marked during the EEG are not seizures. Praise God! But, it wasn't all good news. There is abnormal activity in the brain, especially coming from the left side (not good since she is right handed). They aren't seizures exactly but "seizure tendencies." What this means is, the abnormal activity in her brain makes her very likely to have problems with seizures and she is probably having some small ones in there. With this information, the doctor wants to keep her on the seizure medications she is on. I'm not real happy with this, but I'm hoping that as things heal, she will stop having these problems. I did convince the doctor to go down on one of the medications however because since adding this one in, Madison has stopped trying to hold her head up. Yes, she was very relaxed, but I think it's worse to be a ragdoll than to be trying to work those muscles. I'd rather work with extra tone than no tone! We'll see how this medicine change works.
My trip to Dallas was full of information. Dr. Tennant's seminar was very good and everything made complete sense. I found everything a bit overwhelming, but I think this will be a good device for Madison. I'm still learning about how to use it but I'm sure others who use it will have some good advice. I met a wonderful woman at this seminar. She was attending for the same reason as I was, although the circumstances getting to the injury were a little different. My new friend, Koo's husband was in peak health. He was an athlete training for a triathalon. For unknown reasons, he went into cardiac arrest and sustained an anoxic injury. You can visit his website here: http://chrisbarnes.blogharbor.com Please add him to your prayer lists. He has a 3 year old son and a wonderful wife.
That's about it for now. I'd like to add that movement is really triggering a lot of smiles from Madison. Anytime we bounce her or move her arms a lot, she smiles. It's really nice to see. Keep fighting baby girl...WE LOVE YOU!!!
B+ for Madison...Keep Praying!
Love, Madison's proud mommy!

thanks for the update on Princess Madison, Kathleen
Kathleen, just checked out the Chris Barnes site - how sad - this guy goes from model to a wheelchair in a split second - very sad, prayers for him and Princess Madison to recover completely soon
Just got caught up on the updates Our server was out since Tues. night (Lightning storm). I'm concerned about our canine girl. I e-mailed Animal Haven to inform them about the latest and if anyone there could help out. I'm with Rosa. I'm going to light a virtual candle now and at 9pm. Vivi, go to the feeding station and stay there. We want to get you home to Jil.
I lit three candles on Gratefullness for Vivi,Holly, and Barbaro. Will light them at home tonite again at 9pm. I am very worried about Vivi's injury,if in fact that was Vivi.Has it been pretty much confirmed?
Kathy - I just checked it out as well. Very sad. Chris Barnes reminds me of a John Kennedy, Jr look-alike. Definitely sad indeed. Such beautiful eyes!
Thanks for your prayers for both he and Madison. Here is the site for Abby as well. She is a two-year-old near-drown victim that Gina has met as well.

I also hope this makes Vivi come to someone , anyone. I'm nervous but I wonder if it could have happend because shes SO fast. I hope thats the case, maybe she's laying low to heal. Darlene , good job on the tracks ! I'm glad you seen the prints and noticed such a thing. I hope she's stays in that area for a little while, hopefully long enough for one of you to swipe her into your arms, and go home... It wil happen soon! ooh chills...
Kathleen , glad to hear about Madison . I know things are not great for her but she sounds a little better. I'll keep the faith for that little girl to pull through, Miracles DO happen !
And also , keeping the faith for Vivi . Have a good night ...
Checking in. Wanted to thank all of you who are staying with this marathon of a search. I am very worried about Vivi, but hoping that somehow these developments mean we are closer to safely bringing her back home. Let's keep the faith and I'll be lighting my candles for our precious girl. She needs each of us and our prayers.
If all the flyers say not to try and catch her, why would the passerby try to follow her. He at least knew it was her and phoned it in. Maybe he would have tried to coax her if the flyers didn't say not to do it.
Maybe it is time to change tactics. The old way hasn't worked. She is living in congested highly populated areas and she must be used to all the humans around in the summer. Why would you not now try to entice her with food if you feel she is injured and hanging around gas stations.
I'm not trying to put out sour grapes or say people don't know what they are doing, but this is not good news that she is injured and hanging out in such an area. How do you know someone didn't hurt her purposely or she got hit by a car. That she dropped from sight for two weeks indicates it possibly could be more serious than we want to believe. It is summer and there are a lot more people including crazies out and about and there is an increased risk to her whether you want to believe it or not.
Annie
I will be lighting my candle for Vivi!!
Annie,
Of course, anything is possible, but with the "what ifs"- that could go on and on and only upset you and the rest of us more. I'm hoping the fact her folks said she tends to go lame after running a lot is the case. What if we all just pray for the dog and light candles and let the volunteers report back to us when they can. They are on top of things!
I've been told, "do not despair" and I'm trying like hell not to. Patience girl, I'm here as others hoping and praying! I'd go totally nuts if I didn't have hope!
Hi Martha Miller,
I broke my favorite candle today. Now I have to burn a red one! Ewwwwwwwwww.
HOws NY? California is hot and getting hotter!
Annie,
I believe enticing her with food is exactly what they are trying to do. They've set up feeding stations and all the searchers out looking for her carry tempting treats with them.
I'm praying hard for our girl!
Lit candles for Vivi and Barbaro and will light more at 9pm. Any news on Sniffles, Biggie or the other lost pups? I have complete faith and trust in our foot soldiers. Vivi will be found.
I think we are all worried. I think the idea is to try and get her coming to a feeding station on a routine basis (which she might do if she can't hunt as easily?), and then a large trap could be set to try and capture her. I think we still don't want to encourage people to go after her. Her instincts to run will still be very much intact, even if she is injured. She could end up becoming more seriously injured if people do try and chase or catch her. We are still hoping she lets someone go up to her, but I don't think we should really encourage chasing or catching. Still too much risk.
Hello everyone, We really all need to pray extra hard for our Vivi, maybe we can all reunite tonight at 9:00 along with our candles and really send out some strong loving vibes to her. My heart is just breaking, we really need the gaurdian angel that has been by her side to guide her to a good person with good intentions, that will be my prayer!
VIVA LA VIVI!! Rosa
I keep lurking around here, but refuse to walk away. I can't get this little dog out of my mind!
Day in and Day out, I cant' let go of this. We need our prayers answered quick, hopefully it's our turn soon, or better Vivi's turn! Rosa
"Our Illusive Butterfly
She deserves to go home" as has been said on GailT's site.
And we deserve it too! She has to go to her home in California, we miss here there!
I get all sniffy when I think about the dear doggie! We all need to know she is safe and ok!
Prayers and candles will stay lit until our little girl is safely returned home.
May Vivis angels continue to enfold her in their arms and safely lift her to safety and so it is.

Rosa, Hello, fellow Michigander!Holly is a whippet from Utah who is lost.

Creator God, Please hold in Your protection a little Aussie girl who is lost, and the mama of the 9 rescued puppies. Will You please cuddle our special Chippers, and keep him in Your lap, tonight?
We just received word that this little injured kitten has passed on and journeyed to Paradise to be with You. Assure him that one day he will have lots of mamas who will hold and love him! Thank You for Your love! Amen!
There are now 30 candles. Let's keep them coming. I will go to Mass tomorrow AM and include your intentions in our Book of Life. I will also light a 7 day candle-- but let's hope she is back before then. Amen!
I am so encouraged by the comraderie and faith of all the people on this blog for Vivi. I mean it has been what 22 weeks, and we can not give up. So although, I am a very private person with my beliefs, I wanted to just recount a scripture.
Matthew 18:18 I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my father in heaven.
To me that says, if 2 or more people believe God for something (have faith that it will be just as we ask)it will be done.
So be it for Vivi, soon!
So nice to see your post, Irene. My son's 21st birthday and my aunt's 92nd are on July 28th. May Vivi be found before then. Vivi, go to a feeding station and stay put until a searcher comes.
My candles are lit... Vivi we love you!!
This blog sometimes just really warms my heart.
If love can build a bridge than we've all built one here... and I pray it'll lead Vivi right into the arms of a volunteer or kind stranger.

Hi,
I have another lost dog I'd like to add to the prayer list. I don't know much information other than what I read in this article in the Chicago Tribune.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/custom/newsroom/chi-060713yorkie,1,2951684.story
The lost dog, Faithful, was able to detect this girl's seizures. The poor thing is lost in an area with coyotes. I pray that this dog is found soon for the sake of the safety of the dog and for the health of it's owner.
I am sad to hear that Vivi could be injured but I choose to be optimistic and think that perhaps this injury will make her easier to catch. I'm a little late, but I will light a candle tonight and include Vivi in my prayers.
Keeping the faith,
Gail from IL
Creator God, As You already know, it is imperative that this little Yorkie be found soon. Send a kind person to find Faithful and then publish the picture so a little girl can get her lifesaving companion back! Thank You! We ask this in confidence in Your name. Amen!
Psalm 46:1-3
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in time of trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah (pause and think about that)
Daddy God we come to you this morning in total faith. We believe you and we trust you and we know that you hold all things in your hands. We are engraved in the palm of your hands and all that we have brought to you are in your embrace. Show Vivi the way Daddy God. Lead her to rescue and deliverance. It is time to bring her home to her family. Cause Vivi, Biggie, Sniffles, Rags, Little Ausie, Mommy Dog, Holly, Precious Hosanna, and Buddy to remember the warm embrace of a human companion. Put a longing in their hearts Daddy to feel that love and safety again. As they sleep, let them dream of what it was like to be home and cause them to take the risk of coming into human contact to a kind and loving rescuer. Protect them from all evil. Let your Glory be seen in their sweet deliverance from your Holy and Mighty hand. Continue the healing touch of Jesus in Madison, Baby Girl,JL, Lance, Pam, Chris, Abby and Kathleen. Give Chippers a kiss for us as she lays in your arms in comfort and freedom from pain this night. Comfort all who mourn with the knowledge that they will hold their beloved again for all of eternity never to be separated again. Bless the rescuers with your guidance, leading them to the "meeting place" of rescue. Help them to accomplish the work you have sent them out to do with total and complete victory. Protect beloved Israel and America. Destroy the evil in this world with your Glory and Might. Give us your wisdom as we walk through this day, holding onto your hand. We look to you and we trust in you and you alone. The day of victory is at hand. We give our total faith to you. Let your Glory flood our lives with your presence and your victory...In Jesus's Holy Name we pray...Amen
