Good deed for the day

A local rescue group emails for help:

<<The unthinkable has happened.  Little Shelter’s food pantry has completely run out of food.  Dogs whose impoverished owners are part of the Training Wheels Program and countless area feral cats in the Alley Cat Program rely on Little Shelter’s stock of provisions for their very lives.  At this time of the year – when many people and their pets are enjoying picnics and cookouts – these poor dogs and cats face the possibility of bare cupboards or food that may not be providing them proper nourishment.  Little Shelter desperately needs your help to feed the hungry.

Little Shelter president Maryann Chernovsky implores folks everywhere:  “Hot and humid weather is upon us; many of these dogs and all of the cats must bravely face the blistering heat.  Don’t let them be hungry or malnourished as well.  Please do whatever you can to help them have the comfort of a full tummy.  Do not hesitate; act now.  The situation is desperate. ”

Dog and cat food donations may be brought to Little Shelter at 33 Warner Road in Huntington between 1 PM and 7 PM on weekdays and from Noon until  5 PMon Saturdays and Sundays.  Monetary donations are welcome and may be sent directly to Food Pantry at Little Shelter.

On behalf of all the innocent animals who need help, Little Shelter thanks you from the bottom of their hearts.

For more information, please call 631-368-8770 Extensions 205 or 206.  Please be sure to visit the Little Shelter web site – www.littleshelter.com – for more updates.>>

Hey Denise - PLEASE change the type size on this posting so we old people can read it better. Seems like a very important message.

Have they tried Purina Food. They provide food for shelters very often. Thanks.

Good Afternoon Everyone!!

Little Shelter is a no kill shelter near where I live. They could use whatever help we can give them. They're a great group and really care about their animals. My check is going in the mail today!

I just sent my donation using PayPal.

Mine went by PayPal.
If you can't read it, copy and paste into a Word doc and enlarge the print.

They also have their own secure server that my donation went by, if you haven't joined Pay Pal.

Don't forget:

On Thurs., June 22, Posh Nightclub at the Garden City Hotel hosts a Charity Bachelor/Bachelorette Auction to benefit Bobbi and the Strays.

For those who have been on the Vivi trail since its earliest days at JFK Airport, Bobbi's outpost in the airport cargo areas was a frequent meeting spot and "refueling" station for posters and flyers.

While Vivi eventually headed northward, Bobbi and the Strays continues to do its quiet, unassuming work, helping homeless dogs and cats in this under-served area of southeast Queens.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Bidding begins at 8 p.m. Ticket price is $35, which includes buffet and one complimentary drink.

Alas, hotel magnate Brian Rosenberg is happily married and will not be on the block.

For ticket information, email egiurco@optonline.net, or call (516) 679-5556.

Thank you for using this blog to reach so many when a situation like Little Shelter is facing needs to be communicated. My donation is on the way.

Yes Denise, thank you very much for sharing this information with all of us. What a wonderful and proper use of this blog. It has sure been nice reading the postings today.

Thank you again.

I'm going to try and get in touch with Purina's PR department to share this information. I am hoping they will also agree to donate food to this wonderful cause. A plug for Purina, they do so much for shelter, homeless animals - please support them when you can. I do.

Thank God for small grass roots organizations like this! Let us know what happens with Purina, Kathleen!

Regards,
Tara

IAMS is also good with donations.

Hey friends,

I just wanted to mention for those that aren't aware, there is currently a boycott going against Iams. Unfortunately a nine month undercover investigation has found that they have been taking part in some rather sick pyschological tests that involve solitary confinemnt etc. I have to warn all of you, when I watched the video on this website that the undercover PETA investigator filmed I sobbed. It's very very difficult to watch but unfortunately it's something everyone needs to see. It's just such a disgrace and a shame that Iams has been doing this to these poor defensless animals.

Not only did Iams do these sick tests, the food is poor quality. I would never feed it to my animals, nor give it away to another animal.

Did you know that PETA, contrary to what they say, does kill animals, even in their no-kill shelters.

Diane: Were have ya been? The blog is quiet these days. Have you been head hunting?

Lydia - Tomorrow night. Open bar, Bachelor Auction. Now don't pick out the best-looking guy for you. Remember, COD to Memphis, TN.

Have fun, wish I could be here!

It is with great sadness that I post this today. I can no longer be a part of the Vivi blog, and will be leaving some very good friends I thought I had made along the way.

I wish the best for the safe return of Vivi, Sniffles, Biggie and all the rest of these precious animals. They will all remain in my prayers.
I will be closing my e-mails as well, and starting new ones. Good luck everyone, my deepest sympathy for those who have lost their beloved pets and many others who are sick and need our prayers.

God bless, hugs from Kathleen and Tinkerbell in Memphis, TN

Personally, I am here only to find Vivi and the animals that have come into view as a result of her. making friends and learning things has been a nice side light but I am not here for the drama. Just the work. I believe we can get her back and will but it won't be easy. That's the whole thing for me.

Karen, What happened to my sweet Kathleen? Did someone say something to offend her? I will kick
their a.... if they hurt her

This is not the place for the thin skinned. I'm here for Vivi and Vivi only. I can understand after 4 mos people will be dropping off but in the end you'll find us die hards still doing what we can for Vivi. The best thing you could do is to stay away from the blog..read it but don't post..you'll feel better..that's what I found out. You rarley see me post.

This is just to answer everyone's questions, no one has offended me and I will NEVER give up on Vivi. I will be here reading every day and watching for our Vivi to return home.

Just need to feel separated for some personal reasons. Thanks for the suggestion Chris, definitely a good idea.

>>>Did you know that PETA, contrary to what they say, does kill animals, even in their no-kill shelters.

You are SO right Diane! PETA is very active against animal experiments, animal cruelty, fur, factory farming, etc.

However, they do believe that the best way to deal with feral or homeless animals is simply to euthanize them. PETA employees have been caught in North Carolina taking pets from people who want to give them up and promising to get homes for them and also taking pets from shelters and then euthanizing the animals right in PETA's own van! They were caught because someone noticed dead animals appearing in dumpsters belonging to stores and the cops staked out the dumpsters to see who was doing it. Check out this website for the whole story:

http://www.petakillsanimals.com/

PETA are extremists of course, but I will say they still do a lot of good work. In their minds euthanizing homeless companion animals is a mercy killing. Of course I do not agree with that! (Neither does the law apparently as they have been charged with 50 counts of animal cruelty.)

Regards,
Tara

I am deeply disturbed by PETA's tactics which tend to alienate people who might otherwise be sympathetic to their cause.

http://www.PawHouseOnline.com

..is this really own by PETA'S??
ohh... htis is great..!

Luckily in Oz, we have the RSPCA, this organisation does not receive enough recognition for the work they do for the animals.

although PETA has good intentions, their actions sound s like 'bash and bang' tactic.
