<<In an effort to reach as many people in as many places as we can, we would like to know if you are available to volunteer some time during the week to go to the Long Island Railroad and subway platforms in Flushing, Bayside, Auburndale, Whitestone and College Point to hand out cards with Vivi's info. This would only be a two-hour assignment, from approximately 6:30 to 8:30 a.m.
Please let me know. We will be out tomorrow morning, not sure which station yet but you can reach me at 516-776-0923.
Thanks,

What's the name of the lady that came on the blog and posted that she and her husband are willing to come to NY for a week and help out. We need to get in touch with her.
Wasn't it Linda in NH...?
I think so G in Maine. Can someone help me find her email address. I can't remember which post she posted on
I just emailed it to you Marty
She hasn't been on the blog for a few days. Maybe she is in NY now.
Honi: What a fantastic idea!
Good morning all. What whoever send me the very large, very nice posters (20 x 24 I think) please e-mail me. Pleae don't make any more until you talk to me. Thanks
I WISH I could be there. I would do it in a heartbeat.
Marty: I remember it being Susanna and her husband George from ?Virginia but I'm not 100% certain.
Laurie-
I think the ladie's name is Linda. Could someone tell me if she and her husband are already in New York helping out. If not, I will email her to see if they can still come and help out. They are willing to come for a week to help. We need them right now.
As posted last night there was a dog show in Springfield and Linda was going. Maybe she will be on today.
THANK YOU to each and every one of you out there posting this weekend. You are angels. Vivi is being sighted out there! Let's NOT give up on her. We can bring her home! We just need to have patience and faith. New Yorkers -- let us know what you need so we can send it to you.
O.K. everyone, I just spoke to Bonnie Reunis at the Times Ledger (Bayside Times) and this is what she can do for us:
An add in the lost and found section 25 words or less and she will not charge us anything
A Lost and found add with a picture of Vivi would cost about $90.00 (her cost). Because of the diversity in the area and many individuals not knowing what a whippet looks like, she suggestes doing this.
Prior to the publication deadline of Tuesday at 3:00pm for the Thursday paper, she needs a picture of Vivi in a JPEG file emailed to her at b.reunis@timesledger.com. Can someone who has a picture of Vivi do this for me and be sure to include my name Meri-Lou Mahoney with it.
Once this is done, please email me and let me know this has been taken care and I will call her back to arrange the add.
Meri-Lou:
I sent her a jpeg photo of Vivi, and mentioned you in my message.
Meri-Lou, I don't know what too say, except thank you from the bottom of my heart... Is that too dramatic?
Laurie,
If you notice Susanna on the blog could you let me know. I know Linda said they would come but I don't recall reading that Susanna and her husband said they would come. We need all the help we can get. Hopefully Linda and Susanna will read the blog and see that they are needed.
I was thinking of something this weekend that I would like to pass along to the right party.
My husband and I have been "in dogs" for more than 25 years. If there is ever a time when it would be helpful for us to come to the area that Vivi is in...if she STAYS in an area, we could do that. Just to be the people "at the pond" or wherever to get a possible sighting.
We are in a position to be there for a few days to a week.
Just let us know if Honi or anyone thinks that would be helpful.
Oh, and we would not accept the reward...that would be a wedding gift!
Just a thought.......

I found this post from Linda in NH on the Rays of Hope blog, hope it helps...Joanne
The lost and found add in the Times Ledger with a picture of Vivi has been placed and will run this Thursday 4/27/06. The regular cost for the add with a picture would have been $165.00 but, she is doing it for us at $90.00 per week. I took out two weeks and hope I can call her for a refund because Vivi has been found before that.
Thank you so much Meri-Lou. Your rock
Joanne,,
Thank you. I think Gail said she was in Springfield at a dog show. I will email her to see if they can still come when they get home.
It was suggested by the paper that the lost and found add have something in it that will pull at peoples heartstrings. I have only 25 words to work with, so can someone come up with some verbage that could be used. I am going to use the following but, need something that will get attention
Female whippet white and brindle DO NOT CHASE call 1-877-JFK-VIVI. I have about 13 words left so now is the time to put your creative side forward.
Joanne@11:19, I remember that post by Linda...I hope they can still come.
Kathy of Bayside@10:58..heh heh, I love your drama!
Sounds like you guys are doing things that should be done..Bravo! Hows the weather there? I THINK
Rick is going home tomorrow, I sure hope he finds the little girl! Got my candle burning brightly and a lump in my throat..
MaryL-California
Thanks Meri-lou. You have been invaluable. And much quieter than most of us!
Seems like we are back to taking care of business once again.
How about
Beloved Pet, Family Heartbroken.
I live in Springfield, I am sure the last show was yesterday, I checked Infodog (a dog show site) and didn't see any shows for today listed, so maybe she is home now.
Meri-Lou
Email Loretta, she'll know what to put in she writes for a newspaper.
How about - beloved family pet - wedding on hold until she is found ---
Yes, the last show was yesterday. I was there Saturday but we don't know what each other looks like :-)
How about putting something like much loved, home in California. Owners taking turns coming to NY to search for her. The ad has to tug at people's emotions and catch their eye. The distance thing gets to me. Susan
If she went to the Nationals it's on all week.
"Children despondent..won't eat, etc." Has to be a half truth there somewhere.
Again..talk to Loretta she does it for a living.
Diane..she was at Springfield..she's owns springers as I, do we spoke on the springer list.
Honi, It is a great idea. So many people going through the train stations.
Just emailed Linda. So hopeful she will post on here and let us know if they can come. I told her she could also email me.
How about CHILDREN HEARTBROKEN!
You mentioned the reward right? Please like a reward!
People not please
How about, "If she is not found soon, people will kill each other and themselvs". Now that is what I call drama!!
That's perfect! I am sure they will understand.
Diane, no offense, but Beloved Pet sounds like Beloved Aunt they put on those ribbons on the flower baskets in a funeral home.
Just got in from work- early morning. Give me a few minutes. I'm going to place a call to the ad department of my paper and ask what works best.
Loretta..thank you..your a sweetheart I knew you would come thru.
We'd fine Vivi damn fast if people thought Bin Laden sent her.
I know..Bin Ladens Whippet lost in NY !
Gail- please call me. Phone number sent via e mail.
Gail CT
Too bad you couldn't have told Linda that you look like Cruella De Vil. She would have been able to spot you out at the dog show. Heh Heh
Hows this for drama, I saw it on a sign when a neighbors dog ran off:::DOGGONE, DOG GONE!
Just kidding, but I wanted to add my 3 cents..heh
Or:::::::::Wedding on hold until canine Maid of Honor is found..
Okayyyy, so I'm no help! )o:
MaryL-California
Kathy, very funny, no offense taken. But she is beloved by all of us - we all want a piece of her right now and there may be nothing left to send home. Even Jil said first she wants to strangle her and then hug her.
The are ways to cut down on words so more info. can be published.
Our ad dept. said the word LOST should be at the top in bold print.
Followed by: 4-YO Fem. Whippet
College Point/Bayside vac.
Family grieving.
REWARD Call 1-877-JFK-VIVI
Don't hold me to the vacinity- I'm not from NY- just took a shot.
Meri-Lou-
Please check your E mail.
Marty, are you saying I look unique? lol I thought I blended in with the crowd.
I think Fem can be just an F
Loretta, thank you. We don't have to cut down words because we are being given 25 words to work with. Don't you think that DON'T CHASE should be included?
I think Loretta just gave you the just of it and you can work from there.
Yes- sorry- I was trying to get this out ASAP- Def. on Don't Chase.
Much of this is about having the ad stand out from the rest.
Thus- the LOST in bold, etc...
Our Ad person said not to put the amount of the reward.
Suggestion -- Can you add after the telephone number either
Day or Night
or
Anytime Day or Night
or just
Anytime
People have been calling after the fact because they didn't want to call in the middle of the night.
And perhaps LOST DOG? I wonder if the average reader knows Whippet and if they do perhaps STILL MISSING to highlight the fact that this was the dog they read about earlier?
FYI, we have stopped using the amount of the reward on everything. We just mention the word REWARD.
LOST (LARGE and Bold)
4 YO Fem. Whippet
College Pt/Bayside vac.
Family grieving
Do Not Chase
REWARD (BOLD) 1-877-JFK-VIVI
Call day or night
How about this?
LOST(in bold print)
4-YO Fem. Whippet white/brindle
Recent sightings College Point/Bayside
Family grieving
Don’t chase call 1-877-JFK-VIVI
REWARD
If this is O.K. will someone please ask thw powers that be if the sighting are is correct. If not what should it be?
Karen- that's a great point- possibly LOST DOG is better. You are right about the breed not beng as well known as others.
I used: (when I placed Ads at courier and gazette)
Lost Female Whippet. White and Brindle, Looks like small greyhound. DO NOT CHASE! Call 1 877-JFK-VIVI. Family heartbroken, Reward.
Age is not helpful- I could not look at my animals and tell you how old they are. Small greyhound is good because the picture makes her look bigger.
Meri-Lou- don't think it's necessary to use "recent sightings."
When you give a specific area like College Pt/Bayside- that is understood.
Meri-Lou : Read your post about the ad you are putting in the paper. This is probably going to sound very stupid on my behalf but I'm wondering if everyone will know what Brindle means? We do because we either have dogs or know from Vivi but will the average "Joe" know what it means if they see her ? I had to place that ad a few weeks ago for the dog I found and was told to describe the type and colors like Vivi mostly white with brown around paws or something... Not trying to be a brat... just wanted to see if that may work. We all know not everyone cares for dogs like we do , nor do they know what terms like that mean , but they always know the color. Thank you for placing the ad either way , it's a wonderful idea to keep the Vivi love going strong.
O.K. one more time
Still Missing (large & bold)
4-YO Fem. Whippet white and brindle
Recent sightings College Point/Bayside
Family grieving
Don’t chase call 1-877-JFK-VIVI
REWARD (bold)
The "Call Day or Night" would not put you over the limit either.
The third time is the charm. We probably don't need to list her colors because there will be a picture with the add
Still Missing (large & bold)
Family grieving for 4-YO Fem. Whippet
Recent sightings College Point/Bayside
Don’t chase call 1-877-JFK-VIVI day or night
REWARD (bold)
I think I agree with leaving out 4-YO. This way you can spell out Female.
Brindle is probably a word few people will understand but saying brown or mult-color won't help either.
You don't think small greyhound is a good idea?
What ever you decide to do is alright with me. AT LEAST YOU DID IT!!!
Meri-Lou - sounds good - thank you for taking the lead
Id you use a picture don't explain brindle-- it's obvious. w/out picture just say brown -- it's close enough. Don't nitpick over verbage too much- the important thing to do is get in today. Thanks so much Meri-Lou!
That looks good and I agree on leaving out 4 YO. We work good together!
O.K. this is what we have
Still Missing (large & bold)
Family grieving for Female Whippet
Smaller than a greyhound
College Point/Bayside
Don’t chase call 1-877-JFK-VIVI day or night
REWARD (bold)
BINGO!!!!
Meri-Lou
This looks good. At first, I questioned the STILL MISSING in place of LOST DOG, primarily because although WE know she's still missing- others might be hearing or reading of this for the first time in the ad.
On second thought though- the use of STILL MISSING just might be more of a draw for the reader. Someone glancing through might just take closer notice. GOOD IDEA.
GO FOR IT MERI-LOU,, WHO'S BETTER THAN YOU??? YYYYAAAAA!!!
What about "looks like small greyhound" instead of "smaller than a greyhound" ???
Thanks for all of the input for the lost and found add. This is what will be appearing on Tues. 4/27/06 & 5/4/06 (if necessary).
Still Missing (large & bold)
Family grieving for Female Whippet
Smaller than a greyhound
College Point/Bayside
Don’t chase call 1-877-JFK-VIVI day or night
REWARD (bold)
GREAT JOB- Meri- Lou!!!! The ad sounds super. Now, let's pary it helps!
Great Job Meri-Lou. If Linda emails me who do I need to tell her to get in touch with if she and her husband come to NY to help
COULD TARA GREENFIELD PLEASE CONTACT ME. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SNIFFLES' SEARCH. PLEASE E-MAIL ME PRIVATELY THANKS.
Speaking of Sniffles, has anyone heard anything about him and Ashley?
Has anyone heard anything about Biggie the missing pug?
Just was thinking of another idea. Since there is so much traffic on the subways, etc., could ads be posted inside the subway cars for people to read while traveling as well? What would it cost to do this?
Does anyone know or recognize in the Freeport NY area a telephone # that begins with 516-378?
ROSA,I heard from Ashley last week. Unless something new has developed, she told me there is not much more she can do by herself although there were some possible sightings of Sniffles in Brooklyn.I'll be in touch with her again this week.
If Biggie has not been found, there are two PUGS (unaltered males age unknown) at the Brooklyn shelter that came in today. Can someone contact Biggie's mom?
Is anyone continuing to call the local shelters every day?
The group of people i'm working with, check the posted lists, and contact them and Sharon (from Brooklyn)Biggie's mom if they look promising.
Which shelter?
Meri-Lou,
There are many Brooklyn shelters. Which one?
Courtney Place has called Sharon (Biggie's mom) in the past.
Sharon C - I am getting all these names mixed up, but if you are reading PLEASE check your e-mail for my e-mail right away. I think I have a good chance at some great help, but I need your help answering some questions first.
Kathleen in Memphis, TN
I sure hope it's Biggie
MERI-LOU,
SORRY BUT I JUST GOT ON LINE. IS IT TOO LATE TO CHANGE THE AD?
I WOULD NOT PUT THE AREA!!! SHE MOVES AROUND WAY TOO MUCH! THE GENERAL PUBLIC CAN BE PRETTY DENSE, THEY MIGHT NOT THINK IT'S HER IF SOMEONE SEE HER IN FORT TOTTEN, WHITESTONE, AURBURNDALE OR IF SHE VENTURES OVER TO DOUGLASTON, LITTLE NECK, CORONA, ETC.
A LOT OF PEOPLE PUT "NEEDS MEDS" IN THEIR ADS, THIS WAY IS SOMEONE GETS HER THEY ARE MORE LIKELY NOT TO KEEP HER AND EVEN IF THEY DO THINK TO KEEP HER, THEY WILL BRING HER TO A VET. I AM ASSUMING ALL THE VETS IN QUEENS HAVE FLYERS ON HER?
LOL BTW: "NEEDS MEDS" IS NOT EXACTLY A LIE, SHE'S OVERDUE FOR HER HEART GUARD MEDS & SURELY NEEDS A WORMING BY NOW! :)
Meri-Lou:
I know the 516-378 area, not Freeport more like New Hyde Park.
joan
If you go to CACC in New York on google and click on Home - Animal Care and Control Website, then click on Is your pet missing? Search our online database of online pets, then choose dog, male, over 1 year and no preference for the other two sections. Look towards the bottom of page 2
A654344 - GUZMAN
A654345 - BYRD
Joan or anyone, do you know of an individual with a telephone number that begins with those digits that would be calling Rosa or Tina?
I try to check the shelters daily for the lost pups. I got an e-mail from Ashley last week thanking everyone for their help. I sent fliers to her. Rescue groups also are included with the shelters. Sometimes the list varies depending how I fill in the boxes. I think I get them all and I sometimes check Newark, Jersey City, and around the CT border. Susan
Diane, I am sorry but, I had to send the add several hours ago.
If you're changing the ad, maybe you what to bold DON'T CHASE. sorry I know your exasperated.
