Saturday solidarity

Search coordinator Bonnie Folz sends this on:

<<Once again we will have the "Vivi Base" set up at Utopia Parkway and Peck Ave this Saturday, April 29, from 7am till 12pm. for whomever needs flyers, posters, tape, etc...supplies for the week.

I believe I had much success handing out flyers and postcards to motorists that stopped for the traffic light in front of one of the shopping centers last week.  Mind you I was wearing a neon pink sign around my neck with Vivi's picture and "LOST DOG last seen IN THIS AREA Call Immediately 877-JFK-VIVI."  I may have looked a bit odd but just about everyone I asked to take a flyer from me did as they read my sign.

At the suggestion of one of the volunteers, Gail Thomas, this week we will be asking for volunteers to stake out the various "crossings" from one neighborhood to the next.  At these intersections you can distribute flyers as well as watching for the elusive Vivi.  I will have those intersection post as well as maps of the area available at the Vivi Base on Saturday.  The parks will also need volunteers handing out Vivi's info.

It is VERY important to continue to GET THE WORD OUT about Vivi.  She is still out there somewhere.

Please volunteers, make sure to take care of yourselves as well and do not over do it.  We all had and still have a life before Vivi somewhat took over.  So many of you have been going non stop since the beginning, sometimes it helps to take a step back, take a deep breath and take a break.  This helps to clear the mind a bit and keep you healthy.

It's amazing the dedication you volunteers have, trying to rescue this beautiful little girl, whether you are able to contribute 5 minutes, 5 hours, 5 days.  I know I can speak for Jil, Rick, Paul, Bo and Honi when I tell you anything and everything you all have done and are doing is so very appreciated.  I cannot say enough good things about the "Team Vivi Volunteers"!!!!!!   THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Keep the faith.  We will find her or should I say, she will find us.

Bonnie
My prayers are with everyone and especially Vivi's safe return to CA.
God Bless!

Bonnie,
Mike & I will most certainly be there.

Bonnie- Thank you for taking Gail's suggestion and running with it. This is a step in the right direction.
Another question: Can we get some of that stinky bait to Gail for her tent set-up? It might draw Vivi to that location.

Loretta,

I've mentioned that stinky bait to Gail. It would probably get her to the tent if she heads that way but it would be great to put it in the trap. We mentioned it several times on the blog but someone said they used it in the trap in the cemetary and it didn't work. I think Vivi had already gone. I still think they should try it again but Bo said the problem is the smell of this bait and he thought the neighbors might complain. I don't know what they have in the trap now. I would hope they would have something other than just plain dog food. I'm so glad they are finally listening to Gail.

I have two words to say to this..GO BONNIE!! Thank God she is back in the picture.

I'm with you on that comment Gail CT

I wonder if they have tried fish since Vivi took that piece of food from the fisherman. My thoughts will be with all the great volunteers out there this weekend. I'm so glad they will be taking Gail's suggestion of stake-outs. Let's get this little girl home!

Bonnie, thank you for a very positive and unifying message. My thoughts and prayers will be with everyone out in NY on Saturday, including our wily whippet.

Susan,

Diane said today they found out that wasn't ViVi who went up to the fisherman. It was another whippet name Happy

If Vivi is hunting and her main course is maybe rabbit, why not bait with a cooked one. They are sold at some markets, frozen. Just a suggestion.

Marty, I still can't see how that could be about it not being Vivi. I remember::::the fisherman shared a sandwich witn the dog and patted her, then some dogs came and she ran off..He identified the dog as being Vivi! I wonder why they change now?
MaryL-Very confused in California

Jaonne, Vivi likes freshly killed rabbit. She was at hunter at her California home..How about a nice, freshly killed rabbit..(ewwwwww)

Diane said it on the previous thread. I will go back and check and get back to you

maryL..that wasn't a change it was never a confirmed sighting. It turned out no to be Vivi. Sorry, I wish it was. There is a new post up on Gails site if anyone is interested.

Gail CT:: Awww nuts! HOw sad that things reported can't be verified.

Everyone: CPF/Cynthia has taken over the blog of days and days ago and is sort of duking it out with Gale the physic..Post after post, or thread, by Cynthia..Someone emailed me about her being there, "Tracking a Ghost"...if your a fan of hers or just curious, go there..

Can anyone tell me what area Kissena Blvd is in

How come this women can't tell us where her friend's friend lives so we can go see if that is Vivi.

Good luck to you all on Saturday. I will be thinking of you and sending positive vibes your way. You guys really do all ROCK.

OH GOD!!!! I hope what Gail has written is true- a dream come true!!!!
Yes, why can't she find out where exactly her friend's friend lives???

Loretta,

Something doesn't seem right with this call

On Gails site i don't see any place where people post... where is this on her site?

It sounds unlikely to me. If her friend('s friend) has her why would you need to post? Why wouldn't she just call her and tell her. Something doesn't sound right but I guess you can't ignore any calls like that.

Marty, Kissena Boulevard is in Flushing, by Kissena Park.

I just placed a call to Tina and Rosa. I spoke to them earlier (around 5:30) and they said nothing about a call. Also, how did Gail receive a call, her number isn't on any of the flyers, unless she's posted her own with her number on it.

She checks in with Tina and Rosa - it must have come in after 5:30. That was 4 hours ago.

Diane,

Can you call Tina & Rosa to see what's going on

My immediate reaction to the call is that it's from someone interested in the original reward. It may be the person that allegedly has ViVi or the person who called and may or may not know anything ....but I would suggest following through with the request on posting on Kissema and adding the original reward. If this is for real why play games at this point. Sorry thats just my intuition which at times can be very good. Best wishes to all. HB

Wasn't Kissena where she was before and people thought she wouldn't go back? Can't remember damn dog's seen more of NY than I ever have.

I'm with you on that one, Gail!!! Possibly Vivi could give both of us a tour of the Big Apple. I attended the U.S. Open in Flushing for 10 years and got lost every time I drove there.
One year, my husband and daughters went too, and we got lost in that area where the Hasidic Jewish people live. You know the men with the long hair locks and the ladies wear the fancy dresses.
My girls thought that part of the trip was better than the tennis. The people were so nice and helpful, but it sure was like being in another world. They were asking us to eat and everything.
Truth be told; WE were most likely an oddity to them!!!

I live in Bayside and she knows more about Flushing, College Point, Whitestone, etc. than I do!I have been to more streets, because of her, that I knew existed..

Isn't it true that we see more of our own backyard when out of town company comes to visit?!

That is funny Loretta. When you live in a place like New York, you take these things for granted. When I travel I find alot of places very dull and too laid back. Food is bland and the pizza and bagels (if you could find them) really stinks!! They say its the New York water that makes the good dough.

Out of Town Company hahaha good one Pat.

Pat- that is so true. We live about 20 minutes from Center City Philadelphia. I think I was a teenager before I even saw the Liberty Bell or Independence Hall. We went when my cousin from Wilkes Barre, Pa. came to town.
Last week, my oldest daughter, who is a nurse, and I went to the Franklin Institute to see that Body Worlds Exhibit. It's the one with the real body parts-not my cup of tea. (What we don't do for our kids). Well, guess what? That exhibit has been there for months and people have come from all over the East Coast and foreign countries to see the display. Of course, we went on the next to last day!!! And, even worse- I got lost on the Expressway and was heading in the wrong direction.
We ended up at the Zoo of all places.

I've lived in NYC for 20 years and I've never been to the Statue of Liberty. It ends up being an all day activity because you have to stand on line forever. I figure I can see it without actually going out there, so I'm ok with it.

This was taken from "A Child's Prayer"

Dear Father, hear and bless
Thy beasts and singing birds:
And guard with tenderness
Small things that have no words.(Just roos...)

Well, I imagine a few of our candles are burning down, so...
Father God, Creator of All, Your Light shines brighter and longer than all of our candles can last. Please shine on the path that will lead Vivi,Biggie, and Sniffles, and all the lost ones to their earthly homes. Enfold them in Your tender embrace and protect, feed, and help them sleep peacefully this night. Heal the ailing ones especially Dante, Murphy, and those we hold in our hearts.(Special prayers for Eileen, tonight).Gather those who are making their way into your kingdom, let them sleep on Your bed, until Heaven is home.
When it is our time reunite us with those we have loved. Bless in a special way all of the searchers, posters, and workers who have dared become Your hands and feet. Send restorative sleep to all of us "watchers" tonight, just because YOU ARE IN CHARGE! AMEN.

I saw the post about "Dusty" the conure and just had to add this web site. If you want a laugh and a tear about birds, and finally about all animals, check this out. (Another St. Francis site, naturally.)
http://www.birdbaby.com/stfrancis.htm
I have a young lovebird named Benny who is a real cuddler. He is named after the new pope because he was raised in a convent of Dominican nuns near Brighton, MI. (If you can't trust a nun for a healthy baby, who can you trust?)
Also, each year at Christmas I write, illustrate and "publish" a story for my nieces and nephews.
This year's was "Little Brother Benedetto" about a sparrow. Benny's not a sparrow, but I did bring him home two days after Christmas this year.
'Night, everyone! Sleep well.

Gail removed someone having ViVi from her sighting list

Marty,
I had a time finding it, but its there right now.
I think it was Jess who posted the website:

http://meshier.net/vivi/index.htm I hope I copied it correctly!
MaryL=California

Gail also has a few new sightings posted... does anyone know what area these streets are in?

Just saw that, Marty. What a bummer and let down. Like all of us, was so hoping it was true!

Gail has another posting about a sighting around 7..How could that be if someone has Vivi..Sum ting wong..

Marty, It's still there along with three other new listed sightings.

Why am I still seeing it guys? Check the link I just posted..There are several other entries too..

Thanks Susan, I thought I was seeing things..lol

Gail's link is

http://meshirer.net/vivi/index.htm

I'm very happy to see new sightings listed. I guess Vivi escaped from the "friend of a friend"

Let me check again.

Anyone know what area those streets are in?

Marty:
I think the problem is that if you go to http://meshirer.net/vivi/ the images are the same but the chart is different from
http://meshirer.net/vivi/index.htm

which is where we are at /index.htm page.

ok, I'm going to bed..If Vivi is found, someone wake me up and let the celebration begin!
Night everyone!
MaryL-California

I finally got it. What area is that in

All of New York is asleep so we can't find out where little miss Vivi has been sighted. WAKE UP NEW YORK. WE NEED SOME INFORMATION FROM YOU.

Jessa- they look the same to me. Earlier- I totally misunderstood Gail's post. I was under the impression that it was a friend of Gail's who called. That's why I couldn't figure out why they weren't rushing there.
After re-reading Gail's post- it became clear.
See what the mind can do when a miracle is wanted so desperately.
I also am interested as to where those new sighting reports are located. It just says te streets- not the city or area.

I'm a Manhattanite, so unfortunately I don't know anything about that area at all either. The only place I've been to in Queens is Astoria, which is no where near the sighting area.

Loretta, if you type in the address or at least half of it in Google Earth.. Queens, NY, it will take you to the site and then from there, you can navigate around. You could place 'push pins' on Google Earth so you can keep track of the spots yourself. Its pretty cool. You have to download it, though to start. Good Luck.

Thanks, Laurie. I have Google Earth, and have attempted to navigate the site. I must admit, it has not been easy. I guess in that department, I'm a bit lost.

I'll try the "push pins."

I've been out of town for six days and away from the blogand any info.... am now back and just want to post my never-ending positive thoughts and energy for ViVi. I thank Marty for keeping me in touch at my request, and I still remain, Keeping the Faith in California for VIVI, Marnie ... positive, positive, positive.

If you all go to Gails site she has put up a map to follow for those of you asking about the area.

Just checking to see if anyone in New York had an opportunity to see the lost and found ad with Vivi's picture in the Times Ledger yesterday (4/27/06)? It should be on their website today or tomorrow.

Meri-Lou, I have the Bayside Times to send you and YES it is in there. Email me..

Good luck this weekend you incredible foot soldiers! I will be sending you positive vibes from Minnesota (while working on more posters/flyers). :)

I haven't had an opportunity to really "read" the blog, but I wanted to make sure that everyone knew the vanity "877" phone number is not in danger of being shut off (although I'm guessing that you know that already?). Meri-Lou will be submitting the bills to The Vivi Fund, via Honi, for payment. Everyone has been reminded of the costs involved and all agreed that it was to be used for Vivi sightings (please correct me Meri-Lou if I am wrong).

Meri-Lou, you are an angel! It was a pleasure talking with you yesterday!

Sharon from Michigan... did you know that both Tina and Rosa have birds? I have no idea what kind, but I know they adore them (they made this quite clear when I talked to them one evening)!

Lois, you are correct. The number is not to be used for personal calls and if anyone does need to use, the length of the calls should be kept to a minimum.

It's a good idea to keep in mind that not all reported sightings are necessarily of Vivi. Although she is a very unique looking dog, it appears there are other sighthounds (such as Happy, and the one who was on his or her front lawn), in New York City.

Elizabeth, I believe you're referring to Eve who not only was sleeping on her front lawn but running around Peck Park while we were at Peck of Utopia one day and Rosa kept getting sighting calls - it was Eve. Vivi's coloring, while distinctive, is also very common among Whippets. If I brought my Bonnie out with me the phone would be ringing off the hook.

Yes Diane, bring Bonnie out. Rosa is getting too many hours of sleep lately. 4 hours should be enough for anyone!

OH NO!!!!!! the phone thing again. Don't bring Bonnie, we can't afford it. Just Kidding! I hope the phone does ring off the hook this weekend, all with sightings.

Ditto Meri-Lou

Don't worry, Bonnie is only 7 months old so she isn't going to be hanging out with us. Besides, Clyde and Phoenix get upset if I break up the three of them - brothers and sister - same litter. There is no way I'm taking all 3 at the same time and there's no room in the Jeep - just thinking of what they would do with all that paper in the back gives me chills.

Pee Pee Mommy! Pee Pee!!!!!!

No, that's Clyde - he never stops. He's my Whippet that I swear is a Greyhound puppy. He's so much larger than his brother and sister.

Diane,

I bet they would be faster then a shreder. LOL

No doubt about that but oh, the mess the next morning.

So what. My little girl like to tear up tissues, so I hold one out at a time and let her tear it into little pieces bit by bit. I enjoy watching her do it and it makes me and her happy. So I have to clean up a little bits of paper. It is worth it to me.

My grey puppy has discovered where I hide the toilet paper

Rosie likes to grab the toilet paper out of my hands as I take it off the roll to use it. I close the door when I go in, but she pushes it open with her nose. I find that cute also. What can I say, I love my little girl so...

My dog is the biggest brat when it comes to the toilet paper. Him and the cats have the house to themselves and I tell him before I leave to be a good boy , I say it 3 times before I leave and it never fails. I go upstairs and the toilet paper is in the hallway destroyed and all over the place. When I tell him to come upstairs he won't he rolls on his back with all 4's in the air and won't look at me ... he knows it was bad. But it happens all the time now we have it hidden and we leave the one he tore up within his reach ... funny how it's not as good as a fresh roll... he won't touch it . Good Luck this weekend !!!! I'll be praying for Vivi and all of you , thanks to all the great people involved with this search.

Yep, nothing like a nice new clean roll of toilet paper. Thank you all for your prayers, Vive and I and all my fellow chickens appreciate it...

Are there any chickens out there now? Come out, come out, where ever you are!!

What's with sighthounds and paper goods. Our greyhound ate my W2's one year, It was fun explaining that to my boss! and my whippet now is a toilet paper freak, we keep it in the drawers, our friends and family are used to it now.

cannot go potty around here with, Mr. Toilet patrol

I don't know much about whippets, but I do not think paper shreeding is indigenous to whippets, they all seem to like it. It's a doggie gene thing..

Well, I have a Bengal cat who does the same thing!

I have to keep paper money away from my dog. Of course he's particularly fond of $20s.

Now that could be a problem!! Toilet paper is one thing, money is another. No cookies for Rosie if she destroys money..

Just bring the pieces to the bank for replacment. Been there done that. Something about those 10's

Really? You can just bring it back to the bank? I kept all the various pieces because I couldn't bring myself to throw it away! Thanks for the tip!

Yup..as long as you have all the pieces..if not they should tell you to send it to the Federal Reserve..it goes into what they call Mute Money

If anyone is Collingswood NJ area, there is a lost whippet.

PLEASE forward to any lists that might have an interest. Posters are

looking--they are trying not to frighten her away from the area she
is in.

Thanks
Carol

I'm wondering - those of you who have toilet paper problems with their fur kids - do you roll over or under - my guess is over.

Snoopy, Whippet #2 has been known to make tiny, tiny pieces of a Bounty bundle - 15 rolls - in a matter of 1/2 hour. He's my master shredder. The puppies love to shred newspapers as does my Greyhound. I don't remember Thunder every doing these things. Almost forgot the wee wee pads that the puppies used to shred.

over

OVER, but I have a genius of a cat who doesn't care...over or under,on the back of the toilet,he's goood...I'm the only one on the block who has toilet paper that looks like lace! He also loves paper towels. He's my bug killer so I let him enjoy his paper products.
