Vivi, it turns out, was really Eva -- a 12-year-old white whippet with brown markings who lives in the area. Her owners had let her loose on the lawn to play, and a concerned neighbor called in.
Searchers Rosa Chile and Tina Potter went to the site to confirm the case of mistaken identity.
To reinterate: today's sighting at 192nd Street an 50th Avenue was incorrect.
Back to the waiting game.

At least the neighbors and residents are looking for her.

Searchers need more large, neon colored posters. If you can, please make some up and forward them to:

I know I said I wasn't planning to be posting on the blog in the future, but I received a bunch of very supportive emails and I thank each of you who wrote.
So I will post when I have something constructive to help. I am concerned at the lack of Vivi sightings, but remain hopeful. Laura's worse fear was that due to the lack of organization and number of people searching, Vivi would be frightened out of her new established territory ... I sincerely hope that has not occurred.
Since I have no ability to do anything constructive as others have taken over, I'd at least like to suggest we hold another candle lighting this evening as we've done in the past focusing positive energy or prayers or meditation (whatever each individual feels comfortable with) on keeping Vivi safe and bringing another sighting that is correct so we know where she is.
We usually do this at 9PM EST, and that's what I'll be doing.
Don't forget Sniffles and Biggie and all the other lost animals. If you can light one for them as well, I'd be grateful.
As always,
Hi,
Think Siri is right, Laura needs to come back if Vivi isn't sightned
Does the information on the original poster still hold. I've noticed some talk about a 1-800 number.
We don't have a 1-800 number at this point. For now, use the numbers we have been using.
Yes, could you please reiterate exactly what the posters should say?
Elizabeth read you e-mail re: 800 number
Without any further sightings, Laura won't be able to do anything. She has offered to return, but we need sightings.
We CRITICALLY need the search coordinator that she recommended be in place. As far as I can tell, that hasn't been implemented. It better be someone who knows what they're doing; we've had some pretty scary suggestions of people on this blog.
If you won't be using my services for finding someone, then PLEASE ... all I ask is that you carefully research and be certain of who you hire. Anyone can put up a website, lots of people "talk the talk," while they don't know ANYTHING about Whippets and/or proper search and recovery of them.
Again, I wouldn't be here at all anymore but for those kind people who asked that I continue to post when they wrote me. I'm hoping my words will have some positive impact.
As always,
1-800 NUMBER:
Cherita has generously obtained a 1-800 number that we can use -- the number will go to the phone number of Tina and Rosa, who are searching. It's not a vanity number, but it is at no cost to us, thanks to Cherita.
The number is: 1-800-761-8153.
We can still discuss a vanity number, as well, but we need to decide that issue in the context of billboards, and whatever else it is that we think we need to do.
None of the posters that have been sent to the above address, to my knowledge, have been delivered to the posters.
You can send them to either the above address or to my office - I've been making a daily delivery to our searchers who are out there every day.

People, I don't mean to be a pest, but I think we're losing sight of the objective with the 800 number. It's not to provide a toll free number -- it's to provide a number that's really, really easy for people to remember. That's the whole point. Imagine a jogger is out jogging at 4am and spots Vivi. Do we want him to think, "Oh there's Vivi! Heck, what's the 1-800 number?" Or do we want him to think quickly, "Oh, there's Vivi. I need to call 1-800-Lostdog." Within seconds they would be speaking to the 1-800-Lostdog operator who would immediately call Vivi's contact number. We need to keep things extremely simple for people. An 800 number, free or not, that is no easier for people to remember than the old phone numbers is not going to help a bit.
I'm sorry if this whole thing is making me a little crazy, but it's simply about a number that people can keep in their heads and call quickly. It's the most important tool we can provide to the public. It's not about egos, it's not about Vivi having her own private number, it's not as big as everyone's making it. If you all want to tell me to shut up, that's fine. But I really, really think it needs to be simple.
Kitty,
Take the number that Cherita obtained, and turn the numbers into some letters. That way, 1-800-123-3456 becomes (example, obviously!) 1-800-HELP-VIV or 1-800-FIND-HER.
That's the real genisis of most vanity numbers, anyway. You get a number and MAKE it memorable.
I posted both Vivi and you members of the search team on Prayers for Pets. Biggie and Sniffles names were included! (http://prayersforpets.org/#request)
Don't you remember learning that it is when we are weak, that God is strong!
Hold on tight! Faith is not built while we're watching.
You're doing great.
Sharon
I'm DONE with the 1-800 numbers. Someone can do it however they want -- fine.
Diane, thanks for the other address.
Pamela, get in touch with Bo. And yes, we should get Laura back now.
the 800 number that was obtained will be hard to make into a vanity number because it has two 1's in it, and the number 1 doesn't have letters assigned to it on a phone. It will be harder to remember. I think Kitty is right - 1800-LOST-DOG which is already set up,is a lot easier.
There's a new post up. You might as well give up on the number.
Carla,
Does Bo want me to contact him? I'd be happy to talk to him at any time and will definitely help in any way I can, but need to know why I'm to call him. Is he expecting my call? HELP!
If you're in touch with him, and he wants to talk to me, please give him my number: 920-729-6437
He can call me collect if he wants to ... just confused at the moment, but I want to help if I'm needed/wanted.
As always,
Is there a site to download a poster to make copies of?
Is there a charge for 1800LOSTDOG - if so what is it? Just so you all know getting a vanity number is very difficult in the telecom world - It will also take 2 to 3 days to be active once you all decide - Unfortunately I was unable to obtain anything that spelled VIVI -
Keep the faith for VIVI and bring her home - stay positive.
Pamela I think she wants you to ask Bo if he thinks it's necessary to call Laura. At this point there has been no sighting(hopefully today) but before the trail gets cold maybe Laura needs to track so the searchers know where to go, In my opinion

I think maybe the city noise and cars have frightened her. She could be hunkered down. Does anyone think she might backtrack to the marsh area near the airport?
This is day 2, she's in a heavily populated area with fliers all over. How could she have just dropped off the face of the earth? I'm so despondent.
Gail in CT
I just kind of feel like Laura won't come because we already know that most recent sightings have been confirmed. When Laura came last weekend that was to confirm sightings. That's just my thought
Cynthia, I really think she'll stay away from the airport. The noise alone would keep her away. Right now she's kind of in the middle of NY's largest airports. I can't imagine her backtracking there.
Gail in CT
Oh I agree Gail. I have been worried. I am trying to stay positive though. Does anyone know the longest we went before having a sighting when she got to Flushing
Me too. What could have happened? She's hiding, afraid of traffic, is seeking out another haunt, or has been caught, or is locked in some place that no one knows about - like a warehouse or garage. Maybe just resting near and watching. I had a cat locked in a garage while the people were away - I heard her cry - that can happen to a dog. But unlikely with Vivi I think. She's either roaming or hunkered down.
I don't remember Marty but at that time it wasn't as widely know as it is now. I really hope she is seen today because I'm getting the oddiest feeling that someone has her. The popularity of the dog alone far outwieghs the money.
Gail in CT
My husband said it is a crime for someone to keep even a dog that does not belong to them. A serious crime - and considering Vivi's work - a very serious crimed. It is not finder's keepers with Vivi.
I am very worried, I think before the trail gets too cold, Laura needs to be here, please don't wait.
I hate to think of something bad, but has anyone been checking the local vets in this area or the animal control to make sure she was not hit by a car or worse?
I know we spoke of the last area as having heavy traffic close by.
I hope my concern is not a valid one. I pray she is okay.
Kathleen Stephenson
My friend the Pet Psychic thinks that Vivi has just moved on - she does not get the vibs that Vivi is being kept. But if Vivi is near Marsh and weeds - then she might be hard to spot and people might not be around or even able to see her. My friend is also very good at what she does, when she gets things, she gets them - sometimes she gets nothing and she says - nothing. I know that's not very helpful - but Vivi is alive and on her own.
I know Cynthia but it's a crime to keep someone else's child also and look at the high ransoms that are offered and these children are never found. Society today has no value of what's right or wrong only what they want period.
And people, please don't start with me about staying positive and white lights, whatever..I know all about it. I was up this morning and now it's my down time let me wallowing in awhile I'll bounce back without being yelled at or having my head chewed off. Thank you.
Gail in CT
We just have to stay positive. She may just be resting somewhere. I can't imagine anyone having her knowing that anyone would reconize her when they take her outside. She's pretty well known now.I will light my candle this evening at 6:00 west coast time,9:00 eastern time. Maybe she is just holding out for tomorrow and planning to come out with a big bang for everyone.
Hi guys ~ I went from being "Vivi happy" to so sad in about one minute. It's really been for all of us, a long uphill climb ! We can either fall off the hill or we can get to the top. I can't sit here and say I'm smiling at all ... but it "HAS been quiet on the Vivi front" before, then we were all sad and desperate too but now look back at how far we have come. 13 days ago Karin was at the Airport and was not getting what we were hoping for . We have spotted her and we know their is water not too far from when she's been staying. I just think maybe she's still in that area but it's such a big area !! I'm sure people have seen her today but many people are NOT like you and I really they just don't care , or maybe the have no idea that this is THE VIVI dog. Or their is always that chance that she's just hanging out and you just walked right by her. I still think that the pond in the Cemetary is her only source of water or not , I'm not sure cuz I'm not from that area. I just know everyone seems so down and I hope for all you guys Volunteering that you can find the "Golden Egg" and it will be a happy ending !!! keep positive thoughts and I know that seems like a very hard thing to do these days... but we KNOW she's THERE !! Don't give up I think we are in for a real treat SOON! Sorry to be so dramatic !!!
I will also light candles at 6:00 west coast time. I really need to uplift myself. I pray that Vivi is well, and only resting.
Siri
Chrissy and Siri, Let's hold on to those thoughts for tonight and keep thinking good things, so she can sense them. I know my whippet sleeps ALOT! So let's pray she's been catching up on her sleep. "IF VIVI CAN MAKE IT THERE SHE'LL MAKE IT ANYWHERE." IT' UP TO YOU VIVI....VIVI LA VIVI..
Oh, yes I understand human nature very well, sadly, maybe too well. I have experienced some of the worst sides of it.
I suppose that is why I love animals so much. Acutally, I believe God put us on earth to care for the creatures that are lost and hurt and lonely. It is a gracious wonderful calling to love even those we don't personally know. I hope my friend is right and little Vivi has just moved on - I want her found too. And I want the search to be a success. But finding a new haunt is by far the better outcome (or resting nearby watching the searches would be good too.) And I am being positive too. But there is a real world out there with a lost little Vivi in it - and it is such a big world too.
Iv'e learned two things from being on this blog. 1. There alot more compassionate and caring people out there then not! 2. I need to take a grammer and spelling class.... Rosa in Michigan.
Well if your friend is usually on the money then that does make me feel better. maybe she is just taking a break. She will surface. We just have to believe that. We're only human to be down. We want so much for this girl and we will get. It's obvious to me that she will come on her on terms. cynthia does your friend think that she is still near by though
I dont't Rosa maybe we should do the opposite. OK Vivi you win...maybe than she'll think "good I don't have to run anymore they're no longer chasing me". And the little bugger would show herself. It's like a freakin head game.
Gail in CT
does anyone know the closest marsh area around where ViVi has been
Thank-you Chrissy, Rosa, Marty and Cynthia.
Cynthia does your friend think that Vivi will return to the cemetery area ? Or just moving away like to a new burrough ?
Let's us all invision Vivi back at the cemetary and the botanical gardens when we say our prayers
Siri
Pet Psychic readings are rather odd things - but I think in the world of Whippet travel she is not too far away - but what that means to our walking the beat - something different. More close than far. My friend gave her time to an animal fundraiser and did dog readings - cold - from lots of people just walking up. If she got nothing, she said nothing, but when she got something it was right on. Dogs see at dog level - and don't read English - and smell stuff and see people - there's no way to hone in exact locations - wish it was like that. She did say she had a scare crossing traffic. SO maybe little Vivi decided to go another route - just a guess and not mean to deter the good efforts by all the good people. You have to hunt where she has been sighted before you can spread out - eliminate the obvious. For whatever little Whippet reason, Vivi may simply be just chilling. Please don't think I mean harm - I don't, really I don't.
I have to run and go get my daughter from school. Will return. cynthia, would you ask your friend if she thinks ViVi is far away from where she has been. get as much info and let us know. I will soon return.
Marty,
I think someone said there was marshland near Kissina Park. I do hope I spelled this correctly.
Rita
To everyone afraid Vivi might have been dognapped:
Someone who would do a thing like that would have to brag to friends. Those friends could easily turn in the dognapper for Vivi's reward.
We have to stay positive.
Gratefulness.org has a beautiful candle-lighting site... you can light as many as you like. There are over a dozen for Vivi from all over the world.
w
Dang! I came home from work and I was cautiously looking at what updates there were and was relieved, and then not! Shoot! Well, Rosa, I think you're right - I think she found a good place, maybe in bushes of cemetary, that she feels safe and is taking a well needed long nap. I think she's laying low, otherwise there would have been a sighting of some sort. Viva La Vivi!! Terrie
Cynthia I understand what your saying and your being very objective and allowing people to draw their own conclusions. It does help me because I do believe we all have that capability it's that we do not quiet ourselves and practice to this on a regualr basis
Thank-you I appreciate anything you have convey from your friend and thank that person as well
Siri
My friend thinks that Vivi may have been on higher ground - is there a point that one can look down on the park? Are there any open fields on the other side of this higher area or to the side of the park. Thats the best she can do. Meditations on it can't be rushed or pushed - its just a sense of higher ground and a sense of open fields - and wet. It's like tuning into the dog's view - and a very short little glimpse too. Maybe there are other people who can give more. Not very helpful I know. And a Pet Psychic's idea is not meant to deter the actual search. Please don't yell at me. Acutal real life searches need to be done methodically by eliminating the known and the real sightings by real people who are in the field. I don't believe in chasing ghosts - but if there is an area that might fit that close by? At some later point, then what's the harm? But not now - lots of harm jumping the gun. I believe in the Saturday search by all the wonderful people - I really do.
Cynthia don't feel bad about sharing this information with us. If there's someone who doesn't agree that's okay because alot of us appreciate something :)
Siri
I'm not abandoning the idea of bringing Laura back, but I'm wondering what happened with the IG rescue group and whether Laura's suggestions were even implemented.
To the best of my knowledge, we have no search coordinator yet. Honi and Bonnie are not the search coordinator that Laura was saying should be implemented. This is exactly what Laura was most concerned about ... the lack of organization and coordination, the influx of searchers and thus Vivi moving out of the area.
Laura put a plan in place to stay AHEAD OF Vivi; if that hasn't been kept up, then that may well be why we have no sightings.
I'll continue to hope she is in the area and not sighted, I'll contact Laura and see what she says and I'll wait to hear back from those in the know on this blog. The money to hire Laura was raised by the bloggers. If we want to hire her back, we have to have a consensus from those who contributed as to whether they feel that is the best use of their funds and what THEY want.
Please discuss this among yourselves, and I'll see what Laura's thoughts are. I'll post when I've reached her. I don't want to be contacting Bo about this prematurely ... I'm sure you all understand that.
Pamela, anything to find our Vivi - Once I gave my funds, they became property of "Vivi". Terrie
With the no Vivi sightings i have thought about her being caught in one of the traps that have been put out for her in a few different locations. I am assuming someone is remembering to check all the traps everyday in all the different locations they have put them in over the last week?
Just a thought - but lost people circle and don't move in straight lines - and dogs circle too I read - that is why I wondered if she might go back near the airport as part of a circle or oval route? Because of the fields and less traffic. Can her sightings be mapped - which don't yell at me if they have been mapped or if I didn't see it on the blog - And can some type of a circle be devised that one can see widening - just an idea and if it is wrong - okay. Is there any way to predict her dog behavior - maybe it is not random - maybe she would retrace.
I don't know -- have you ever been to JFK? There's a great deal of traffic there (not to mention the expressways she'd have to cross to get back there), and noise from jets and other vehicles. I don't think JFK is a quiet, peaceful place -- not even the marshes at the end of the runway.
Does anyone know if their is a higher ground about where ViVi is
Just wanted to thank you guys for being so amazing through this whole Vivi ordeal.
We're praying for a miracle this weekend.
Shawn and Bliss
Maybe there are marshes in a different direction. But one can't simply go out into marsh land - and maybe Vivi is on a path she has worked out. Where she travels - I don't know really. Know one does - is there anything that might be considered a road above, or a path that is higher than the cemetery?
I AGREE WITH TERRIE. I GAVE MY CONTRIBUTION WITH NO STRINGS ATTACHED.WHATEVER IS BEST FOR VIVI AND WHATEVER HER FAMILY IS COMFORTABLE WITH IS OK WITH ME.
I think Pamela was saying something about getting the IG rescurer (spelled wrong)Well in Bo's update today he said he spoke with the guy and the guy told him that every thing was being done right and their was nothing he could do to help the search. I remember someone say that when we are weak God is strong so we know that little miss ViVi is in good hands
Thank you everyone for your support.
I just spoke with Laura, and she is already working on returning to New York as quickly as she can make arrangements (and hopefully be able to bring Sam) back with her.
I'm very excited and pleased to know she is returning.
As always,
Where I live we have a huge airport surrounded by marshes - and it is possible to be quite happy in this bog I suppose and never step foot near an automobile. So even though I have been through JFK, I have not been where the rubber meets the road or even cared to look at the end of the runway.
Do you have junk yards near fields? Near the Cemetery?
Well when pieper (i think that's how you spell her name) comes on we will ask her because she lives there. She was the one that viVi went in her back yard Tues.night
Marty that is so true. We need Gods strength to help us all, to direct us in the right direction and to do the right thing for Vivi and for our emotions
Siri
Thank God in heaven that Laura is coming back - maybe she will find Vivi's most recent scent.
Is laura coming back. I haven't heard that
My Blog is not moving up. This is just wierd. I'm tired of looking at it
Siri
Thanks Pamela. Now did Bo tell you to do this. Just wondering. If he did he must be worried
I know Siri. That is just to damn funny
Pamela, when is laura coming
Marty I've never seen anything like this and the time is all messed up !!!. LOL
Siri
Have not seen an entry from Renee in a bit. Hoping she's ok.
Does anyone know when laura is coming
Loretta: I have been thinking the same thing, I haven't seen any post from RENEE or IRENE. I hope they are well...Rosa
I sure hope Laura gets here soon. And I sure wish that little Whippet would make an appearance - she really may just be holding up and widened her haunt. Part of the expected.
Any news on Sniffles or Biggie? I thought I read somewhere that the Stake-out For Sniffles was supposed to be last night? I think of Ashley often, she is going through the same heartache as Jil. Ashley I am praying for you and Sniffle too...xoxoxox
Cynthia - There IS an area like this on the Rose Ave side of Kissena Park, where you have to actually climb steps in order to get to this higher ground. it overlooks the lake area and if you continue on the higher ground it continues into what looks like marsh area, similar to the high wheat stalks that are found along the woods next to the golf course on Underhill. This might very well be the area that Vivi could've gone to since she was coming off of Jasmine and 156th. This leads right into Rose Ave and that section of the park.
I wish Pamela would come on and let us know when laura is coming. Maybe she is getting all the info together
Oh my goodness - Donna - that's it then - the wheat - my friend mentioned the wheat like grass. Oh how wonderful - is that near the area to be searched tomorrow?
Donna, how far is this from the cemetary
I was on the plane starting at 10 Maui time- that means about 3AM EST and just got home from the airport an hour ago. I think I am glad I missed today. Looks like it was very stressful. However, it also looks like we are starting to get back on the same page.
I hope that any future media coverage focuses on how to "catch" a whippet so people don't start chasing her. Seems like that would be a good use of the media. I can see a demonstration on the Today show. Maybe the word will spread and it will help other lost and running dogs as well. Not to mention just to educate the public about how to approach any dog. My very kind and friendly rescue BC Patch is very alarmed by a straight on approach and I have always worried someone will come running towards him bend over him and try to hug him or kiss him and he will bite them in the nose.
That is so wierd
