College Point coordinator needed

Search coordinator Bonnie Folz sends this message via hotelier-whippet sympathizer Brian ("Big Dog") Rosenberg:

"Please ask your fellow bloggers to select one coordinator to dole out sections of blocks to work in the College Point area. There are MANY businesses there along the waterline/shore. Have them contact the various businesses within that block radius by phone, email, faxing info and flyers to them to hand out and make their employees aware that Vivi is still missing and was sighted in that area. Any help the bloggers can provide is so very appreciated."

Bonnie adds that the coordinator does not have to be local, and can do the job long distance.

Brian asks that bloggers use this thread for College Point coordination only.

To whomever is chosen, I would be happy to fax every fax number I get but I have been fairly unsuccessful getting fax numbers. If you know of any way to get them please post it or email me. I am even more unfamiliar with this area than previous ones. Perhaps smeone could send a link to a map and I'll continue to try. Thank you.

I can get MORE FLYERS, info on POST CARDS, and POSTERS donated by local printers...I can also email, fax and forward information...PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THAT WILL HELP, PROVIDE THE ADDRESSES AND #'S AND I'LL WILL WORK FROM MY HOME OFFICE...think we need a "drag net" surrounding the area BEFORE she passes through...giving all the info, and hopefully seeing her OURSELVES.

MORE MEDIA COVERAGE WOULD BE GREAT as an UPDATE so people know Vivi's still wandering, and in the College Point Area.

Karen, check your e-mail for FAX suggestion.

Thanks I will

I got it. Thanks for sending it. I have found that once before but that site basically says that they are really hard to get. I have found a couple of potential sites through that address so I'll try anyway. My second problem is I need some parameters, a map, addresses or something - I am not clear where I am supposed to be looking. I want to help not cause other people work, I just thought maybe someone had something at their fingertips...

I also want to know how to find fax numbers for schools, vets and businesses besides calling the places and asking. Is there a web site? I can fax, have done schools in Whitestone, Corona and Flushing as well as some vets. But if there is a site to find out please let me know. Susan

If someone locally in the area is able to give us long-distance bloggers a list of numbers, we could go ahead and do the calling and faxing. I think many of us are simply not familiar with the area at all.

Here's a list of College Point businesses I was able to find. Could you please help me call these places and see if they will let us email or fax a poster to them.

http://www.google.com/local?hl=en&lr=&q=businesses&near=College+Point,+NY+11356&sa=X&oi=local&ct=title

Okay, this list has thousands of businesses in College Point. I will commit to contacting the first 20 businesses on the list. Anyone want to follow suit? If we each take 20, we could get a lot done:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/yp/geo/NY/College%20Point/102-5573743-4602532

Contact the Queens County Chamber of Commerce. Chamber should have info on various businesses in the Colege Point Area etc.

http://www.queenschamber.org/

Queens might not be the 'right' area. What I did though was search the internet for 'chamber of commerce NYC 2006' and got a listing. The link here, is a list of buinesses, and when you click on their links you get their web page that may contain contact information including their FAX "contact us" often is present on the web page.

Someone maybe could just collect them off the sites into a list. It will be time consuming for sure to do it this way. Not sure how else to do it, that wouldn't be just as time consuming or even worse. If they go to a library with computer access (or work LAN) that "is not dial-up" it will move fairly quickly I'd think. They could copy / cut the fax numbers to a word list and e-mail it to you as they get a page at a time of numbers. Got to know the area to get the right Chamber of Commerce listing though.

That's what I'm afraid of -- I think it may require someone who is familiar with the area to put a list together. I called one business on my list just now, and they told me they are not near the area of the sighting.

Contact DAWN . They are there till 6. My friend David spoke to her yesterday, they will take flyers, etc. I'm calling her again. Can't get into Colege point by 6 because of work

I will take the next 20 businesses on the list. There are so many.

I contacted the Queens Chamber of Commerce. While they cannot give out a member lsit with numbers and names of businesses in the area, the Chamber WILL contact their members in the area if we send a formal request. Fax written request to
Gisette at 718-898-8585.

Also see queenschamber.org for a list of members.

College Point may still have a volunteer ambulance corps

I was out for a minute and that's what I was thinking. I will send out to every fax number I get. If anyone collects one or two you can email me, if you collect a list you can fax it to me, I'll email you my fax number. I'll compile them and fax them as I get them. Then you will be done with your part of this and my part will start. In the meantime I will work on printing more posters.

PS I will fax the chamber of commerce right now too.

Let's go, volunteers! We need everyone gathering fax numbers for Karen. I'm getting posters made up to send to The Little Dog House, and I've asked Brian if he can get any there, too.

Seems I'm duplicating some efforts..vets already been called. I'll do some names on business list if you tell me at what alphabetical point to start. Thanks.

I did a search under Google..type in College Point Businesses and alot comes up. I can't make long distances calls from here I'm at work. Instead of my printing them all out do the search.

College Point Businesses in NY is what it was.

I'm trying to find some trucking companies to fax flyers to..these guys are always seeing things you wouldn't believe. I only found High Point Trucking and the number is not in service. Anyone know any others around there?

I am not able to send a fax to the Queens Chamber of Commerce -- our fax machine is down. Can anyone get a request to them, with a poster attached? Even in black and white is okay.

Has there actually been a coordinator chosen? Don't want to duplicate efforts. Terrie

I've asked my husband to contact the postermaster in this area and notify all the carriers and provide flyers. But, I need someone to email me the most current flyer with correct phone #s.
Send to maggie@mayo.edu

Also - if you need more flyers, I can print up 1,500 today and FedEx to Diane. Just tell me if you need these.

Maggie

I called one of the College Point businesses from #20 - 40 and they said they're on the other side of town. There was at least a couple in that same area. Can someone list a range of where the area to fax is? I am not familiar with the streets at all. I can fax the schools if that hasn't been done.

No, we don't have a coordinator. I believe that person needs to be in the NYC area to be effective. That pretty much leaves all of us out of it. Unless someone feels they can handle it without being there. I think some familiarity with the area is pretty much required, though.

Susan, please fax to the schools if you would. My fax is not working this morning. Thanks.

We need flyers and posters. We need them in Italian and Greek. Can anybody make those flyers and get them to me - I'll give them to Rosa and Tina in the usual way. College Point is a very old area and I need to drive through it. It's the type of area that on one side of the street you're in College Point and the other side you're in Whitestone. As a reference for anybody who is looking at a map - Whitestone Expressway on the south, College Point Boulevard on the West and North, continue north from there to the side streets and the Whitestone Bridge to the East. You can use those references as your saturation point. There is also the NY Times Printing building, the US Post Office Sorting Center and a Police Impound right on the Whitestone Expressway Service Road as well as DMV, Toys-R-Us, etc. Don't forget all the stores down College Point Boulevard and also Target, BJs, Circuit City, etc on 20th Avenue and take a look at the swamp area across from those stores. Also, behind BJs there is a new Auto Tech School that just opened. Also a few office buildings - heck, get the cars in the lots if you can. Wish I could leave work.

Flyers, we need flyers - English, Greek and Italian.

Send them to the Flyer Lady - that's what Tina and Rosa are calling me now.

Diane Tamm
111 East Shore Road
Manhasset, NY 11030.

I received two confirmed deliveries of flyers today - thank you very much. One was large posters which will be fantastic in a commercial area.

Has anybody volunteered to be coordinator. If not I'm going to call Rosa and see if they want to do it since they've spent the last 2 nights over there.

someone mentioned ambulance corp. College point ambulance corp phone #718-353-0199

Can anyone get our posters translated into Greek and/or Italian? Thanks -- good work this morning, every one. Keep looking for businesses we can contact and faxes. And keep making big, colorful posters we can send to Diane.

Beth, are you the coordinator/lead on College Point? You seem to be doing such a great job already.

I don't think it would make sense to have me be the coordinator on this one -- here's why. I don't know anything about the area. I'm on the West Coast (too far away). And, I'm going to be in depositions for the next two days, which means I likely won't even be able to get to a computer and will have my phone turned off. I'm only going to be able to help, really, this morning.

Attorney? I'm a paralegal - same problem - meeting with clients, etc. Didn't realize you're on the West coast. I think Rosa or Tina would be the likely choice. Want me to give Rosa a call and ask her or you could call her - you've got her number.

I faxed the schools. Do you need the Chamber faxed. What areas should I do next?

MAGGIE, CHECK YOUR EMAIL I SENT YOU THE LINK I HAVE AND WHAT TO ADD.

Susan, could you fax the Chamber of Commerce, and attach one of the flyers (even black and white). Their fax number is 718-898-8585 (attention to Gisette).

Diane -- do we have any idea if Rosa or Tina spoke to the woman who saw Vivi in this area to confirm that it is her?

Yes -- I am an attorney, out of Seattle, Washington.

Can someone help me out here please...am ready to go with letter to Chamber of Commerce but no flyer...can you fax to me 212-477-0392 or email please. Thank you!

How many Attorneys and paralegals do we have on here? I'm a paralegal. No wonder things get done fast here :-)

I got one. Carla, it's on it's way

Incorrect fax number for COC. Correct number is: 718-898-8599. Can someone please fax or email a poster to me so that I can forward to them, please. Thank you.

If Rosa or Tina agree, they've spent and are spending so much of their time already - could we at least offer to pay them some type of stipend. They may refuse - but I feel like their life has just been taken over. I know they may not take it- but should we offer? Terrie

Carla, I'll fax it to you in 3 minutes.

Carla -- I sent you the latest flyers I've got.

I believe we are going to be reimbursing Bonnie, Tina, Rosa and Honi -- Lois is waiting to hear back from Brian and we'll let you all know.

I will help in any ay I can...faxing information to businesses, schools, etc...
Or writing press releases, etc... I'd love to help!

Loretta: Could you help by making some large posters and sending to Diane? They have found that the large posters, on neon colored paper, are effective. I could send you one of the flyers we have used, and these can get posted on the neon paper. Thanks --

Diane's address, for posters, is:

Diane Tamm
111 East Shore Road
Manhasset, New York 11030

I have already faxed them. COC. See earlier post.

Carla you lines busy but I faxed it

I e-mailed and faxed to Carla.

Beth, I rec'd an e-mail from Brian this morning - I'll forward it on to you.

10:04 Post I mean. done.

Sure, Beth-
I will do anything to help find Vivi. I am going to ask my daughter and her college friends to help as well. She goes to school nearby- just about a half hour away.
A few of her friends are Art majors, so they can really crank them out!

Please clear this for me..ARE THE NUMBERS THE SAME? STILL USING ALL THREE?

Thank you all! Gisette @ COC has all the info now.
(I'm mid-life career changer halfway through ABA Paralegal program at Queens College!)

I might be able to get a translation in Greek. Email me what you want me to have translated...

Kathleen - it's on its way.

I also faxed the COC with the new number and it went through. A Middle school or high school language teacher could translate the posters into Greek and Italian. Did any one do any NYC.gov faxes? How about dog groomers?

Ambulance Corp contacted but cannot receive fax until evening?! Go figure. Will call them back then.

Carla -- congratulations on the career! I'm a mid-life career changer to attorney. Was a paralegal for 15 years first.

We need to coordinate this so we don't end up tying up business's fax machines with multiple faxes while others remain unfaxed. Please post who you have faxed so that that doesn't happen.

I think what would be best would be for certain people to compile a fax list while certain others fax from the list. I had volunteered to do the faxing. I don't mind who does it we just need to be on the same page for efficiencies sake and so we aren;'t making businesses hate us, and hence viiew Vivi as an irritation.

Lastly I wrote a simple cover letter, a detailed how-to letter and have a poster in a 3 page package. If someone wants me to email them the package to send out (the fax to# and name would need to edited, that's all) I'll fax it or email an attachment.
Thanks

Received the flyer. We are no longer using three phones number?

If you all will send me a list of who to call/fax and a flyer - I will take on at 40 for the afternoon
Karen - send me the cover letter also.
Thanks all - Keeping the Faith for VIVI in Texas.

Please advise if more fax numbers from College Point business needed and if possible, at what point alphabetical. Thank you.

When you describe posters as large what size are you talking about?

Karen,

I can do some faxing from home this evening. Please send me 20 names along with the package.

I have no names to send. Earlier today I thought we agreed that I would fax and others would compile ames but no one has sent me names. I faxed the COC only so far and at this oint this is who the letter is addressed to. I'll send you my fax pkg though right now.

We are supposed to use 4 numbers- the original 3 plus 1800lostdog in in the hopes it can be remembered. I'll email my poster. Sent to Cherita too

Well the flyer that was sent to me only had two numbers. 917-647-4848 and 917-626-1374

GUYS-SOUNDS LIKE SOME POSTERS DON'T HAVE THE 3 CONTACT PHONE NUMBERS THAT WERE PREVIOUSLY USED. READ KATHLEEN'S POST. PLEASE MAKE SURE THE PHONE NUMBERS ON ALL THE POSTERS ARE RIGHT.

Reminder: This post is for direct information regarding today's business only. The previous post is for all other messages.

I just went to the amazon.com link Beth posted at 9:42 this morning. She isn't kidding - 16,000+ businesses listed. But, each business has a number listed next to it. Beth already said she would take the first 20. I will take the next 20. If it goes quickly, I will take on more.

The only way to coordinate this would be to have people identify what "numbers" they are taking and to have someone keep track of who is faxing who. I would be willing to do tracking, but I am at work right now. (Catching up on my lunch hour)

I could go through all the blog entries this evening and post the list if that would be helpful. To contact 16,000 is going to require many more faxing fingers!

Please see Beth Thompson's post @ 9:40AM with link to College Point businesses in which she suggested we take 20 or so names each. We need to know who will take on doing this so we don't duplicate efforts and annoy merchants.I thought some had already started & that's why I asked at what point alphabetical. I'll begin with A/B now if no one started...just let me know. Thank you.

That's why we need one person/s to make the list and email those ready to fax. I will fax letters to the addresses emailed to me. If we all just start randomly picking numbers we will get random results.
You can cc each other- the researchers so they know who has been sent what.

I went to the Google Business link since I thought it was layed out better. We have to be on one business link or else there will be duplications.

Is there any interest in having a Podcast done? I have a friend that has a podshow and she ouwld do an interview where we could have Paul discuss particulars that have not been mentioned on news programs, and be current. If anyone would like to check that out and let me know that would be great.
With a Podcast there can be more time for conversation and ever instruction, and it's another form of getting the word out about Vivi.
In the mean time I will keep holding her energy and focusing the group visualizaitons (by the way Judy from Jersey, nice quote, and great support. working from soul level is really powerful---it's all the mundane human dramam baggage that gets in the way).
I kanve been known to put energy fields around animals and moved issues to have animals in unhappy homes be given up for adoption that end up at the clinic I support with the fees for my pet psychic/healing energy services---just like I would promise the animal when I went for the initial consultation---because the owner was having a problem withthe animal.
With Vivi---this is a deeper thing to to have manifested with her out running in NY. So we can just hold the space and work at a deeper and higher level of awareness that thoughts are things and intentions have force. should I call someone about the Podcast?

Someone asked about moving companies in the College Point area. Here's a link with them:

http://www.123movers.com/moving_companies/College_Point_NY/z-11356/s-residential/results.html

I made my poster with 1800lostdog large so it will sink into people's heads as they walk by. Then I put the 3 numbers we'd prefer they call and "vivi" on small tear offs at the bottom of each poster. I can email this format to anyone who wants it.

We need to get word out to College Point Corporate Park -- they have 550 acres in the area -- here's some contact information on them; can anyone volunteer to contact them:

New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) manages the College Point Corporate Park on behalf of the City of New York. NYCEDC coordinates the maintenance and improvements of the park infrastructure and grounds. For more information on the Park, call NYCEDC's on-site office at 718-445-8333 or NYCEDC's main number, (212) 312-3600; (toll-free: (888) NYC-0100) or e-mail us at CollegePoint@nycedc.com.

May I suggest that the picture of Vive be a little smaller in order to fit all 3 or 4 phone numbers..

Also it should read, "Please call immediately"

When this is done, please resend it to me and I will have it translated into Greek. I might be able to get a translation into Italian also..

KAREN:

Yes, please, can you e-mail me copy of your poster.
Trying to keep an eye on what's happening here, but have workmen in the house with all kinds of questions and noise going on...

Want to be sure posterflyers I use is exactly how it should be.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, EVERYONE, FOR ALL YOU DO!
AMAZING IS THE ONLY WORD TO DESCRIBE IT ALL..

Irene Wilson

The google list is fine, but you are right. We have to all use the same list. I think we need to hear from Beth as to whether she has already started making calls and which list she is working from. I will log back on later for any updates.

I sent it Irene

I had said before that I was going to take the 2nd 20 but when I called the first one, she said that she was on the other side of town from the sighting as were a couple of other names in that group. Are we still doing all no matter what the location?

I think the list I sent may not be a good one -- I did call the first 20 businesses, and several were not even close to the spot of sighting. This is exactly why I think we need someone familiar with the area -- I am totally unfamiliar with the area.
