Entourage 5/11: Best episode so far
No doubt this episode will be in the running for Best Episode when the Joshie Award nominees are announced next week.
I hope those who have been claiming that "Entourage" jumped the shark this season know how to swim because that theory was just sunk.
One theme this season has been Vince taking a stand in his career and fighting for everything he gets/clinging to everything he's been given. This is truly the first season we've seen Vince become a true character rather than someone who sleeps with every woman on screen and pays for everything his boys do.
He took a stand against Verner the nutjob German director, and although it backfired, at least he became a man. It's about time.
Ari Gold is always awesome. Dana Gordon is, too. And that triangular screaming match between Ari, Dana and Verner was just about the most intense scene we've ever seen on "Entourage." Even E got into the mix for a minute. (By the way, no one calls someone a J.O. on screen better than Kevin Connolly does. Clearly, that's the Long Island in him coming out.)
Gotta love how Turtle came out of his shell this week. We saw his softer side, his "Wait a second, is something good really happening to me instead of me helping someone else?" side. We all have that side. And pretty much any side we see of Jamie-Lynn Sigler is completely fine with me.
Everything about the script and acting in those scenes felt natural. Even the lighting. The soft lighting during Jamie's booty call. The tranquillity of the background leading up to Turtle's biggest confession in the show's first 65 episodes. Perhaps "Entourage's" finest technical moment.
Anyone who ever disliked Turtle had to cheer him on this week. It's like hoping Tom gets his paws on Jerry just once. Or praying that the Road Runner trips on a rock and breaks his foot, just so Wile E. Coyote can have his day. America loves an underdog.
When Doug Ellin told me back in September that this was the best season so far, I chalked it up to the typical party line being spewed on the red carpet. But after seeing this episode, I understand what he meant.

This was an amazing episode. My favorite episode of all time which will never be broken is the Victory on the Grand Canyon. And I love the party Vegas/High School party episodes. But this was amazing.
Though Sal having any chance with Jamie Lynne would be over once he showed how pathetic he is. Girls like the chase.
Yo LaMonica...answer a freaking email once in awhile huh??? Your silence is no way to reward a loyal blogger. Especially someone that loves this particular show. You know Vince and E would write back.
I thought this episode was great. Verner was scary as shit after the screaming match with Ari and Dana. "Ver ist Ellis!". I couldn't stop laughing, it was just so absurd. I feel bad for Vince and Turtle. Turtle did the right thing by sticking with his boys. I guess the series is winding down (which sucks!). Not any thing can last forever, especially good shows.
Ari's cousin : no worries. If the series is "winding down", it is gonna take 3 more season to do so. No doubt Vince will be back on top at some point. My review is below:
Where there is smoke, there's fire. And tonight's episode of Entourage was hot.
With the fires raging in Calfornia at this time, a movie, even a fictional movie in a fictional tv show, is very current and aprapos.
But, alas, Smokejumpers won't be coming to a theater near you anytime soon. Why, you ask? Because production of this film just went up in smoke!
That's the bad news. Equally bad is that this film was to be Vincent Chase's (Adrian Grenier's) return to the big screen. This once hot actor was blazing a trail across Hollywood. But, since the disasterous Medellin, he hasn't been able to reignite his career.
The good news is that, despite the fact that hot head Verner fired Vince from the set (what the heck, Eric Murphy (Kevin Connolly)? why didn't you stand up for your boy?), the whole movie has now been put on the back burner. So, rather that it looking like Vince was let go because his acting was less than inspired, it will be just another example of a movie that went over budget by burning thru money too fast
Verner's combustable persona saw fit to that when Dana Gordon (Constance Zimmer) and Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) confronted him and led him to bust up a meeting with the studio owner. After that, it all went up in smoke and Vince, Dana and Verner all got burned.
Meanwhile, Turtle aka SAL (Jerry Ferrara) found himself back in LA play'n with fire with Soprano's star Jamie Lynn Siegler. Will these two continue to keep this new flame going next season or will Vince's career extinguish this budding romance the same way it smothered Eric and Sloan (Emmanuelle Chriqui)?
Next week, Vince and the boys head back home to Queens, NY to a warm welcome home. With Season 6 confirmed, I have to believe that, like Phoenix, our hero will rise from the flames and be hot again. But, based on the previews, it looks like things will blow up even more before that happens.
Let's hope Doug Ellin puts a fire under production and we start getting sneak peeks from the set again in February 2009. Because, if we thought waiting for over a year to find out what happened with Medellin was unbearable, this is going to make it seem like that was a day at the beach.
Here's hoping that the producers and writers pay homage next week to everyone who ever left the LI/NY area for any lengthy period of time.
Show the boys performing the "1st return ritual" that just about every diaspora'ed LI'er (that I know) does upon his/her return to the NY area.
First stop(s) after arrival at the airport?
A deli, a pizza joint and a Carvel.
Just my opinion, from two time zones away.
Every episode so far this season has had me waiting even more anxiously for the next. I do wonder how bad things are going to get between E and Vince. Judging by the preview clips, it looked pretty bad. I wonder if Drama and E will leave for LA and leave Vince (and Turtle/Sal?) back east, since the former have lives to go back to while Vince seemingly doesn't at the moment.
And I've got to go with Lainiek - Vince has to get back on top before the series ends, and it's going to take at least one more season to do that. Then you've got to have one more season and market it as your last to make sure you get every last viewer and commercial deal. So at least two more seasons, and hopefully a couple more.
Great episode. One terrific guest star (Verner), one interesting guest appearance (Jamie Lynn).
But the transition to the trip back east was terrible.
Wow this has got to be the biggest emotional rollercoster ride episode this entire season. It's the first time where at the end of the episode I actually felt bad for the bunch. Turtle is a stand-up mate who really didn't let his boys down.
Can't wait to see what happens. I know all dreams come to an end, but the battle isn't over yet.
Entourage has already been re-upped for Season 6, so we're good there. My hunch is it will make it to Season 7 rather easily. After that, who knows?
Islander505, loved your call on the deli/pizza joint/carvel. I'm still holding out that something out of my dream script scenario from a few years ago will show up in the finale. I know it's a pipe dream, but "Entourage: Live it," right?
Jamie Lynn Siegler has to be one of the worst actresses on the planet. Her agent is a genius for getting a no talent all this work.
Awesome episode. really cant get enough of this program.
Anyway, am i missing something ? film shuts down which leaves Vince and the boys only one option; go home to Queens. What ? Why is that suddenly the only thing to do. ?
Question: Did anyone else agree with Verner that Vince was doing a terrible job of acting in the scene he made him do over 50 times? Was that intentional? Was the audience supposed to side with Vince or Verner?
