Oprah: Five Reasons Why Palin Should Appear

Well, I suppose the big flap of the moment has to do with Oprah and Drudge; she claims some report he filed today is bogus, and even went so far as to issue a denial; it's no big deal, really, though Drudge (as usual) is pumping this for all it's worth. The post claim: that Oprah's staff is divided on whether she should have Sarah Palin as a guest, with Oprah insisting that she shouldn't come on.
Plus, if you're coming to this post for the first time, I've now got ten more reasons for why this interview should take place - for a total of fifteen. Click this link to see what they are.
O went so far as to issue a denial, and she does that very very rarely - in fact, I can't even remember an instance when she has. "The item in today's Drudge Report is categorically untrue. There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show. At the beginning of this Presidential campaign when I decided that I was going to take my first public stance in support of a candidate, I made the decision not to use my show as a platform for any of the candidates. I agree that Sarah Palin would be a fantastic interview, and I would love to have her on after the campaign is over."
Now, let me just give you the benefit of my expertise on Oprah: There's no such thing as a "divided" staff out there in Chicago. She is the Queen. They are her subjects. There are no disputes with the Queen, and that is that.
But Oprah's also in the bag for Obama and has made no secret of that either; said she, for example of his recent speech, "What I saw with Barack Obama was something that was transcendent and I felt transformational for me as a human being and for this country. And I only pray in the deepest part of my being that America will rise to this moment. And I feel that what he was able to offer us as individual citizens and as a united country was something that we have never seen before. I really, I think it's the most powerful thing I've ever experienced."
Fine, now, here are five reasons why O should have Palin on:
1.) To talk about motherhood, her family and Bristol; if you're really hung up on politics, O, then this doesn't have to be a "political" debriefing at all, per se, but a larger look at even more important issues, which your show claims to care about.
2.) It'd get a huge number. Hell yeah! Perhaps one of the biggest numbers in "O" history. This is a mercenary business, O, in case you've forgotten.
3.) It'd get the show back to that sweet spot of "relevance" and "news-worthiness." Wonderful to have all 150-or-so Olympians on Monday's season premiere, but the Olympics are old news; Palin is fresh news.
4.) Of course, it's O's right to support Obama in whatever forum she chooses, but she's simply too transcendent - her word - a cultural figure to pretend she's lil' ol' objective and non-political Oprah on her show, and yet Obama's most important supporter in the WORLD when she's not on screen. That's a silly artifice, transparent to all. Why not get Palin on and say, "OK, lady, I happen to think this guy walks on water. Now you tell me why he doesn't, and let's go at this." That would be great TV, and far better than a dreary debate between Palin and Joe Biden.
5.) O helped secure at least a million additional votes for Obama but probably lost hundreds of thousands of McCain supporter-viewers - if not more - to her show in the process. Here's her chance to say to everyone, "I have a right to support whomever I choose, and now to prove to you just how open-minded I am, here's the gun-toting mama from Alaska on the show."

I heard that Oprah was arrested today and when they checked her out they found 200 pounds of crack, get it!

Oprah, for all her alleged intellect, ability and talent, is utterly predictable...and a hypocrite, as all liberals are, by the nature of their illogical philosophy.
She won't invite Sarah Palin to appear on her show. Her excuse is that it would offer a political forum. What was her show other than a political forum when Barack Obama was invited to appear?
She's silly.
What? You mean the media is biased? Television is the worst news source, everyone has their own agenda.
I have never had an issue with Oprah. I feel it is her perogative to support whoever she wishes. However, by taking such a one sided stance on this presidential circus, she is showing that she is not the enlightened woman most people think she is to be. I am sure it does not matter to her core viewership... But your fence riders and others on the opposite side of the "dedicated fan" fence, lose any interest in anything you have to say. Many people watch shows for some level of objectivity. "Supply and Demand" rule the business world and if you don't want to supply your greatest asset (Brining on Palin) then potential viewers are not going to buy what you have to sell if you did.
When will the media openly and honestly report the facts about black crime, welfare rates, and IQ?
Visit C H l M P O U T . C O M
if you dare to open your mind and decide for yourself.
This is going to snowball....wait and see. Sarah had a larger viewing audience than Obama and 4 LESS stations broadcasting her speech than Obama.
McCain had more people watching than Obama even though some of the critics are saying that one (1) of the stations cut to his speech after the Football game was over.
The message is getting out and she may pay a price for this if not settled soon before the elections. She might as well do it sooner than later so that it can be old news by Nov. 4th.
I disagree with the writer that she should debate Sarah as Sarah would bury her and make O look like a hack job leaving behind a train wreck.
Who is O ??? Do they still have a show ???? Oh OHbamas mitress , OH that O !!!!
My name says it all.
We suspected it-Now We know it is TRUE
Oprah is a Racist & Hates White American Women
She sure does like their money though.
First time she supports a candidate and he is black?=Racist
First Republican VP candidate and it is a White woman and Oprach won't have a woman on her show about women? = Racist
If Palin wants to be on TV then let her Face The Nation and Meet The Press!
Enough of this free ride of hers!
She's a racist, pure and simple.
Listen. I would LOVE to see Palin on Oprah but in no way do I support signing a petition to force her on the show. I do not believe in the Fairness doctrine... please...
when will the National Enquirer publish the pictures it has of Oprah & Obama?
Oprah should be ashamed of herself. Obama, the 50% white/50% black candidate, isn't the only one making history. How about the 1st female VP candidate on a Republican ticket? Whatever happened to "girl power", Oprah? Aren't women the ones who've made you a billionaire? Nice way to say thanks.
Pathetic.
Oprah is going to deny a woman who attracted 40 million viewers and is the first female vice presidential nominee in 24 years from appearing on her show? Unbelievable. I think Oprah is going to have mutiny on her hands. She is selling out all women again to support an African American man. She doesn't have to endorse Palin or even discuss politics, but to pretend as if her audience isn't interested in her story is absurd. I think Oprah is going to lose a lot of fans over this, it shows she is clearly biased and identifies and sympathizes more with the struggles of black people than she does with women. After observing this election process I think it's proven that women have a much greater struggle towards equality. What a shame that Oprah will sit on her hands once again when women need her support.

and one other reason, which is really two inter-related pieces. first, let me say that I don't watch O's show, and thus don't know if she hosted Obama since he became a Dem candidate, or any other prez candidate while they were running... but if she did, to host one and not another is simply- - censorship- - to achieve her desired political view...the second goes to Federal tax laws and Federal election laws... if she hosted Obama or any other prez candidate, but not Gov. Palin, then she is playing favorites, and giving free air time to one candidate and not another, which, if my memory is correct, is a violation of federal law... either you have them all, or you don't have any of them....
liberals have the market cornered on hypocrisy. they want to bring back the so-called "fairness doctrine" to silence rush limbaugh because the truth is killing them.
but oprah uses her show to advance B. Hussein Obama and refuses to even talk about any other candidate. this in a business where the hot "get" is fought over viciously! and don't even get me started on MSNBC and the clowns like keith and chris. i don't understand how they can show their faces in public!
you can put a $500 suit on a liberal and they are still crackpots.
Let her talk to reporters. Exactly. It's a shame so many of you are willing to get excited about somebody on your ticket who can't articulate their views or defend their positions on the major policy issues of the day.
But I guess, as the last 8 years have shown, republicans don't give a damn about actually governing the government... so why bother, right?
Hey ya all !
Here is what Oprah's actions and words this past half year says to us all:
Oprah is sick and tired of showbiz and wants to ride in on the coat-tails of the Obama's.
Oprah wants a public office future.
Oprah has 'been there done that' on the 'TV drama, give out great gifts' thing.
Oprah does not care that the women of america lifted her to where she is today. She only cares now that she got what she wanted, and now she only cares about the liberal agenda.
That's what liberals do. They like to decide FOR you what is best for you. They feel THEY are here to save the world. Hmmm...sounds like scientology
This blogger reminds me of the parents who want prayer in public schools. They don't *really* need or want it for their own kids (who can pray the other 16 hours they have at home) -- they simply want to force it on others. Likewise, this blogger knows and loves Palin, but he just wants to force her face in front of others who aren't inclined to listen to her viewpoints.
Another good analogy is people who complain about historical movies and say, "Why didn't you include this or that?" Well, the writer or director chose to tell the story in a certain way, and if you want something else portrayed, then make your own movie.
Bottom line, it's Oprah's show and it's Oprah's choice to select the guests. Palin will be invited on a million other shows to get her viewpoint out. Why isn't it good enough for you that the Palin lovefest will be running 24 hours a day on Fox News between now and the election???
Of course she baised! In that regard she's one of the Hollywood elite who, because she has money, believes that equates to a measure of intelligence beyond the rest of us poor folk. I tuned out Oprah and the likes of her in the entertainment business a long time ago, and feel much better because of it.
Now I just laugh when one of those Hollywood liberals makes a fool of themselves.
with the extra ratings and ad revenue she can pay off her mothers 156k clothes bill in Wisconsin
Obama and Oprah have done more in just a few months to set racial tensions back for years than anyone has done for a long time. Blacks have shown their absolute racial bias during this process. I've tried my best to be open and kind to black people and make them know I have no negative feelings about them and have tried to make everyone that I come in contact with to feel comfortable. However, there is a definant chip on most of their shoulders and now Oprah and the Obama's have brought it all to the surface. A few short months have set my thinking back years. My family won't be buying or supporting another Oprah product...EVER! She's shown her true colors...she's simply backwoods thinking with an ignorant, biased view. It's a real shame that black are shooting themselves in the foot. It's rather sickening to be honest that they'll even admit that Obama doesn't hold some of their values but they're voting for him anyway and it's simply because he's black. Come on people...do you think I'm stupid? That's rather insulting to me!
Well, she had Senator OHB on her show, twice and will not let Governor Palin on (or as she says, until after the election, how convenient). So is she biased? In the liberal since, yes. I doubt it is a racial thing, unless she comes on stating it is “Black America’s time” or something like that. More likely, Oprah is like most liberals, she does not want anyone else to succeed (which Palin would show you that you can), O makes her $$$ by her audience being kept down and looking to her. This is what the Democratic Party stands for on a national level. O actually shows who the Democrats (and herself) really are; hopefully her audience will see it.
Total liberal bias has shown. Coming from Chicago I am now ashamed to live in the same city as the big fat O. What a joke she is.
Okra
You SUCK!!!..........No Really you SUCK!!!!!!
Had Sarah Palin been Black then Oprah would have had her on the show in a heart beat.
The mask has slipped.
sounds like the downfall of oprah... i think her kiss of death has been signed. cheers oprah. you had a good running.
If I was handling SP, the last place she would go is on O. It is an unpredictable audience with a major affect on the female voter. By staying off, it helps her maintain a victim status from the biased media.
The bottom line is O is the boss of her show and shouldn't be pushed around.
I will not vote for BHOJB. (Barrack and Biden), just being honest.
She SHOULD go on Fox News first, second, and third. Then Meet after the press complains thus guaranteeing more viewers. Screw the other biased folks. The way Brokaw has been handling Olberfuhrer rates letting her appear.
This is not what is the best for the USA, but the blacks are only for other blacks. This should not be a black / white issue that Opera is known for.
Everyone is going on the assumption that Sarah Palin would want to appear on Oprah's show. It's not like the VP candidate has to beg for he O's publicity. If I were Sarah I would decline any invitation I received from Oprah. Another washed out lib TV personality!!
I think it's none of our business as to what Oprah choose for her program. None of us posting here are worth billions; obviously we don't know as much about developing an award-winning show, or we wouldn't even by putting our comment here.
This is a free country; Oprah can have Obama on her show every single day; she can make him PART of the show, and since she lives in a free country; pays her bills, it is her right.
She should NOT be 'forced' to put a person on the show that she doesn't feel is in keeping with her goals; she's already said that after the campaign, she'd make a great interview, and I think she should STICK TO HER DECISION.
She clearly is NOT bigoted; she just is very aware of the plight and abuse of the negro, as I am.
I'm as white as they come; I'm German - I come from a family who is bigoted and very much opposed to not only the negro, but the Mexican - the Native American; if it's not 'white', they don't want anything to do with it. So, if I can come up through this type of orientation; break away from it at the age of 14 (and now I'm 66), I know it is something that one feels in their heart - one who studies the terrible atrocities done by the white people to those of color.
If I were Oprah, I'd stand strong - she is a wonderful woman, and inspires me and millions. More will be respectful of her decision to control her decisions HER WAY, rather than succumbing to the pressures of the 'media' and John McCain's attempt to slur her as well as Drudge and others.
Very good.
Oprah is racist pure and simple.Oprah is one of the reasons McCain and Palin are going to defeat Closet Muslim Barack Obama.
Mr O has shown that he is a sexist politician.
Ms O Winfrey has shown that she is a racist show host.
I have had enough now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now, this hard core dem will vote repub for the first time in my LIFE.
She has a right to support which ever candidate she wants to but and she is not obligated to host Sarah Palin on her show simply because Palin is a woman. If that were the case then she would have had Michelle on her show long ago.
Palin on Oprah was suggested by Mark Halperin of Time who suggested shows like the View and Oprah for Palin instead of Meet the Press of This Week.
If Oprah has not done so in the past, she should not be bullied into hosting candidates or their wives.
If Palin wants her views to be known, then she should go on the political shows who would love for her to appear.
Sorry-As I am German am I still allowed to call African American's negro? Or is that the n word? I'm white and I am voting for the negro Obama. Are they negro's? Is that cool? Or should I call them coloreds. I don't know-My parents killed lots of honkey jews.
It's a shame that a woman with a wonderful story such as Oprah's, has chosen to let her personal political preferences deny her national forum the opportunity to hear the story of another brave woman's journey. Oprah's decision to deny Sarah Palin her "15 minutes on the couch" will no doubt cost her dearly. Her TV audience I would guess, is primarily comprised of those women who relate to Palin and would find her an inspiration.
Win or loose, the fact that our country has chosen a Black American to head the presidential ticket for a major party is testament to our ability to finally bury a part of our past that none of us find savory. What is Oprah afraid of?... Isn't it after all in our best interests as Americans to have the best Man or Woman win?
I believe that if Ms. Palin is not given a shot at Oprah's America, it will be viewed as an act of reverse racism by a woman who we all believed was way above that sort of thing.
Can't wait to vote for Obama !
Oprah is like most members of the Celebrity Elite ... they want to use their position to promote a specific political agenda but they don't want to be held accountable for the consequences of their actions.
Of course Oprah is biased and a little bit racist, too. And her mom-crush on Obama is sort of creepy. But the real reason she won't have Palin on her show is that she knows that she will look foolish in front of millions of her fans if she tries to debate The Barracuda. Giver her credit, Oprah knows her limitations.
this, as well as all of the mis-information broadcast over the last week on cnn and msnbc, goes to the heart of the fairness doctrine issue, and why we the people must stop them from ever reinstating it as policy.
if drudge flashed that bill o'reilly was not going to interview obama, and o'reilly issued a statement like oprah's, the drive-by's and the liberal congress would be fuming right now. however, since this is a liberal media person not interviewing a conservative candidate, not a peep from capital hill about how "the liberal agenda owns the daytime talkshow circuit."
i doubt keith olbermann will call oprah "worst person in the world" today - in fact, he just might name drudge in the top 3 for exposing oprah in this case. thankfully o'reilly avoids speaking of olby by name, or we'd have him as a 'pinhead' every night!
mccain/palin '08 - vote for america, not the EU.
If Oprah decided early in the campaign that she would not use her show as a platform for political candidates, then she should not have hosted Barak Obama, as she did. It's a free country, and she can politic all she wants, but for her to pretend that she isn't playing favorites -- when she has and she is ... Wow! She must have transcended right out of her mind. It takes me back to her defense of James Frey, the fake biographer, who she promoted and then defended for lying to her public and his. It took extreme pressure from her fan base to motive her to change her position and do the right thing. O is a great TV personality but a superficial woman, and most of us know that.
First of all, I don't care if Palin goes on or not, or much about politics in general. BUT did everyone forget that Oprah IS NOT A JOURNALIST anymore!? She's a TALK SHOW HOST. There's a big difference. There is no moral code that says talk show hosts have to be unbiased when it comes to politics or other issues in general. And she has never claimed to be unbiased, she OUTRIGHT SUPPORTS OBAMA. So why would she have Palin on her show during the election? At least she's honest and upfront about her leanings, unlike other broadcasters who PURPORT to relay the news but are just PUPPETHEADS for their political party.
There are alot of other television personalities that support Obama as well as McCain. So what? Why do you all need these celebrities to help you make up your mind? Watch or read some REAL news and decide for yourself. Trust me, Palin can and will go on other shows. 60 minutes is an actual news show and just had Obama/Biden for an interview after their convention and has openly invited McCain/Palin as well.
Ok, I'll let you get back to your spin monkeys now.
Oprah should have Palin on, but she won't.
Palin is smarter than Oprah, and Oprah will not have anyone on her show that she can't control, manipulate or possibly cause to have an "ah-ha" moment.
Oprah lost my support ages ago with her ego-tripping shows. She thinks that since she has had all these so-called revelations about herself, she can know what is best for everyone else.
Instead, she leads people down a path to destruction.
Palin is real. Palin is more in touch with middle America than anyone I've seen in my lifetime!
I'm excited again about politics. And I'm proud to be a working mother who is able to "do it all" and still raise a wonderful family!
Palin has my vote, whether Oprah has her on her show or not!
If Sarah Palin is not invited to be on the show PRIOR to the election; I will ask EVERY woman I know to ask EVERY woman they know, never to watch the show again!
Can you imagine?
Spin this way or not-
OPRAH IS A RACIST!
OPRAH HATES WHITEY!
Oprah, you're pathetic.
Talk about racist.
I guess you don't mind when white people watch your show and patronize your sponsors.
Maybe it's time to turn the channel, cancel the subscriptions, boycott the sponsors and turn off the spigots funding the liberal elite, bigots in this country.
To the hyperventilating angry right,
there are three reasons that come instantly to a clear mind why Ms. Winfrey should not be compelled to have Sarah Palin on her show:
1. Not news.
Oprah's show is NOT A NEWS PROGRAM in any way, shape or form. Hence there is no inherent reason for her to put on a newly minted political opponent of any prior guest, any more than there is reason for her to be compelled to bring on Grisham after she features a thriller by Dan Brown. If she has Racheal Ray on, does she HAVE to bring on Emeril next week for balance?
I hope the absurd and illogical nature of your argument has become clear.
2. Timing. Obama was on well before he was a candidate for POTUS, and well before most knew who Palin was. Now Oprah is absolutely correct to abstain from having either on until the election, even tho - as many correctly argue here - she would benefit highly from having one or both on now.
3. A Free Country?
IT'S HER DAMN SHOW! Who are you to tell a woman who worked her way up from a radio gig to being one of the most powerful forces in the media and entertainment world what she must or must not do on her own show. Oh yeah, and forget the backlash - she has more money than god so she won't care if a few of you whiney white-bread Dr. Phil lovin soccer moms don't show up - what are you gonna watch? Judge Judy?? LOL
Oprah is one of the biggest racists there is, so I don't think anyone should be surprised she hates Palin. She hates all white folks.
I don't want to hear that shrill, idiotic Palin on Oprah. It's O's show and she can do what she wants. Don't force this shallow, cackling VP candidate down our throats. We're sick of it. Republican ideology and conservative philosophy (if it can be even dignified by the name, "philosophy") have finally run their course and will go the way of the worst of human errors. I'm sorry that there are so many still deluded by the Republican party. It must feel bad to have the page of history turned on you, you retrograde lot.
one of the posts said "this is a free country." well, when it comes to political donations, it isn't.
according the the federal election commission, "anything of value given to influence a federal election is considered a contribution."
you or i cant give more than $2300 to a political candidate. why can oprah give obama millions of dollars in free publicity but it isnt counted as an excessive campaign contribution and a violation of federal election laws?
Oprah is a liar and a racist. Now we can see the REAL Oprah.
It is certainly true that it's her show and that BHO did not appear after he officially became a candidate but you'd think that she could comprehend that this action makes her look partisan and petty.
I was ambivalent regarding O until the Frey incident. I read one page of his stupid "Million Little Pieces" book and saw that it was bs yet O made a fool of herself for weeks promoting that jerk. Now she appears to be head over heels for BHO. Emotion trumps intellect on the O show. Palin wouldn't fit in.
Oprah is a racist ho!
To Oprah:
Let's see how this impacts your Billion $$$ empire and reputation. It will be interesting to see you cry off your fake eyelashes when you start losing viewers and sponsors.
Pure arrogance and racism.
Did Oprah have Joe Biden on? No? Then who the hell cares?
I don't think Sarah Palin could really be bothered to go on Oprah after the election. She's sort of the antithesis of your typical Oprah viewer, which is a good thing, because your typical Oprah viewer is someone who somehow manages to have absolutely nothing to do in the middle of the day. I would venture to say that the bulk of them are low self esteem saps, who view Oprah as the all-being goddess of their emotional and personal fulfillment, and do not have the courage to form their own opinions and go against Oprah in the upcoming election. It would, therefore, be a waste of Palin's time to appear on the show. If Oprah's viewers had the self-confidence to break away from Oprah and vote for someone other than Obama, they probably wouldn't be watching the show in the first place.
I too am glad that this whole bruhaha started. It has forced Oprah's hand further in terms of her intentions and feelings. It helps us to better define her and unfortunately for Oprah-she has definitely put an end to her popularity era....it is gone.
The old adage 'never forget where you came from' or something like that is good advice, advice Oprah ignores. Oprah would be nowhere without the huge following and support she has mustered from women in the US on a nonpartisan agenda. Being non partisan-but instead 'an american' all these years made Oprah larger than life and that is why she was so loved. She removed all the barriers between color in this country.
Now she has brought the division back, she has re-energized racism, she has driven a hurtful wedge into the very base that kept her afloat and got her where she is today.
Very interesting....this whole turn around of Oprah Winfrey....from the top to the bottom in no time....all because she decided to be a liberal and a black woman before being an american and a woman without color.
It is sad to me actually. Another person who fooled me this life.
Could the ACTUAL reason that Oprah won't invite Palin be that ... Oprah is afraid that PALIN MIGHT DECLINE THE OFFER? I mean, if I was Palin that's what I'd do. Why should I help support the income of a TV starlett who is in the bag for my opponent? Why should appear in a venue where I am prevented from saying anything that I wish to say when I already have the media following me around listening to every word I say?
there's enough hypocrisy in both parties .. and all you have to do is read 3/4 of the postings above to see what WHINERS people are ...
. let's see who Jay Leno had on The Tonight Show recently .. Arnold, McCain, etc. ..no prominent democrats ... all without people claiming that he's a white racist or being bothered in the least ...
.. Oprah does with Palin what she did with Hillary .. my guess is that most of these folks didn't care whether Hillary got on or no ..
Both Leno and Oprah get away with it because they're called "news" shows and thus the "fairness doctrine doesn't apply ... but we don't really don't want fair, do we? if we're democrats we only want what's good for democrats and if we're republicans we only want what's good for republicans ... that's because hypocrisy sucks when someone else practices it and we call just WHINE .. but when we practice it, hypocrisy fits very nicely, thank you, because we know that we're right, whatever it is that we happen to believe at the momemnt ..
if you don't like Oprah, don't watch Oprah (I don't) .. if you don't like Drudge, don't read Drudge (I happen to read Drudge) .. but for crissakes stop the whining -- whether democrat or republican ..
I wouldn't sweat it. Winfrey has a boring show with so many sad, pathetic guests -- it's like Us or People magazine -- no substance. On other days she has new age gurus ripping off people like those early Saturday morning TV infomercials.
Why would Sarah want to be on that? She's going places, she shouldn't waste her time with junk TV.
Think about it folks -- what is the hottest story to come from this miserable show for the past several years? Tom Cruise jumps on coaches. Substance this is not!
What is it about Chicago that makes people act like such perfect A**holes. To note; Oprah, Obama, Jesse Jackson, Mayor Daly (1968), Hillary, Billy Zane, etc.
Oprah is scared of Palin...a smarter woman, incredibly more attractive than Obitch ever was, and who could, with a smile on her face, dismantle the Obitch empire in one show
Oprah is a ultra-left bloated windbag. Please, Sarah, stay off her show - even when she begs you to appear!
Jeez.......and here I thought this post was going to be about five reasons why Palin should appear on tv news interview programs to answer questions about her political views and background. So far all we've gotten from her is a well-delivered speech written by a Bush speechwriter.........and that's it. Is she qualified and ready to assume the Presidency if called upon to do so? The jury's still out, and the hype from her speech is already fading now that she's appeared twice in public to repeat the same canned attacks on Obama and refused to take questions. Empty pantsuit? Not ready for prime time? We'll know soon enough, if the McCain campaign ever lets her out of her bunker.
It's very clear why Oprah won't have Sarah Palin on her show...She's scared! She knows the popularity of this woman and that her guy is basically an inexperienced empty suit and she doesn't want to promote that! It's really too bad because Ms. Winfrey and her sponsors WILL suffer further damage. White woman who are members of both political parties put Oprah where she is..and they'll be the same people who decide where she winds up..and I suspect that will be with a smaller audience. As far as I'm concerned, I grew up in Baltimore and remember Oprah as the local newscaster, talk show host that she was and I've never understood her rise to the top...she was a phony then and remains so today! She is simply a testament to what garbage some in the public fall for.
I really like Barbara's comments: "Tell EVERY woman you know to tell EVERY woman they know; never to watch the show again."
It's time for women to seen and HEARD in this country.
I am voting for REAL change: Republican.
I know the ticket that Joe Stalin, Castro, Ortega and Chavez would vote for and for you uneducated, it is not McCain/Palin...
I hope if Palin get invited that she'll explain - on the show - the reason she fired the head of the Department of Public Safety. We're all going to want to know how she'll carry on as VP before the general election.
After Oprah had more money than she knew what to do with, she realized the money still leaves an empty feeling inside. She turned her show into a "cult" and she the leader of that church. The chip she carries on her shoulder for "white" people was always showing to me.
Her ripping into Thomas Jefferson as a hypocrite over the "sally hemings" issue was sweet on her lips. You could see the gloating. Yet the sally hemings issue has many many holes in it. details can be found here http://www.monticello.org/plantation/hemingscontro/hemings-jefferson_contro.html
But of course that makes no difference to her, and she knows that, but it was sweet sticking it to that "special whitey".
For all her justly or unjustly dislike for white America, she better remember one thing clear... the fame and money she has would never had been hers if she were "still in Africa" and "living as an African" . She should be grateful to "white" America for giving blacks a chance like that.
Living in Africa she may have been raped when she was a virgin in the misguided belief many have over there that having sex with a virgin will get rid of AIDS. I kid you not, stuff like that is actually going on over there. Don't take my word check for yourself.
I'm sure Palin would not be permitted on the show by her "handlers" so the whole point is moot. But, I believe just the idea and statements by Oprah are going turn off a lot of viewers. Perhaps then you see her true colors come out as she becomes "angry".
You had a great ride Oprah. God bless ya!
Of course Oprah doesn't want her on because she knows that millions of her viewers will actually like her and she'd probably outshine the Queen.
If Oprah doesn't permit Palin's appearance the time she devoted to Obama should be considered political contribution and accounted for as such.
Why should Oprah be unbiased? It is her right to decide who will be on the show and who will not. If you don't like the show don't watch it. It the free market, isn't it what the republicans stand for?
If you have ever been to "Harpo" you should know that there can be no such thing as "divided staff" there.
And all this scum from chimpout as well as the ones calling Oprah racist just show the true colors of republican base.
I can't believe Sarah Palin would have any desire to go on Oprah's show. It would be beneath her. In fact, I am tired of people running for office going on talk shows. It so degrades public service to give any credibility to Hollywood, etc.Side note...Oprah said Obama is the first candidate she has ever been excited about. It is because he is black..period. Also, I am tired about hearing how hard it is for black people. They are Americans. Stop with the African-American label. Americans...period! Go USA!!!!!
She does not have to have Palin on her show. Pallin is not the one running for the president of USA. Opra have not interviewed Joe Biden.
Ridiculous!!!!!!!!
"That's what liberals do. They like to decide FOR you what is best for you."
Like deciding what a woman should do with her body?
Like deciding if the option of abortion will be available?
Doesn't Palin believe that her daughter's pregnancy should be a personal matter, without outside involvement?
I agree.
Now, anti-choice people, stay out of my womb!
PS. Its Oprah's show, she can do what she wants. When you are one of the most powerful women in the world, you can do what you want, too.
I mean, come on! The name of her show is 'Oprah.' When did you EVER think that she was offering an OBJECTIVE view? That's why people HAVE their own shows.
That's why Letterman has a show.
That's why Rush Limbaugh has a show.
That's why O'Reilly has a show.
That's why Olbermann has a show.
That's why Oprah has a show.
PPS. You guys sound like you're running scared from black people! But then again, so much of your political platform is about fear.
You guys are all hypocrites.
I love how the drudgereport, the online equavilent of rush limbaugh, funneled all you guys onto this blog to try to bully oprah into having palin on.
1.) Palin refused to address the media. I'm not making this up. The McCain campaign put out a statement saying that Palin will not take any questions from the press or the media till after the election. Why should Palin get fluff pieces if he's refusing to take the oppurtunity to answer the legimate questions of reporters.
2.) Oprah never had Joe Biden on. She stated she won't have anyone from either campaign on. This was before Palin was picked. You guys didn't complain back then. You cheered that Obama wouldn't be getting fluff pieces on Oprah's show. But now, you want Palin to get them.
3.) Oprah won over plenty of fans by endorsing Obama an year ago and proving that she is a person with feelings and beliefs. I respect her for it. I recall, all you drudge report readers cheered aloud when she did this. You were happy that Oprah and Obama were taking on the Clinton machine. But now suddenly you're upset. Please.
It's her show... get over it or give in to taking away someones right to free press...
god the internet is full of morons
Oprah should have Palin on her show and ask her some of the real hardball questions that the other networks won't ask, or the McCain campaign is shielding her from (can you say George W. in a dress?)
Such as:
- Why is she a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, a group that wants Alaska to secede from the United States?
- Why is she against teaching safe sex in schools, and only supports abstinence only education? (Everyone else's kids should be abstinent, just not hers).
- Why did she support the Bridge to Nowhere, before she was against it?
- Why was oil giant BP a sponsor of her speech at the RNC?
- Did she give credit for her "glass ceiling with cracks" reference to Hillary Clinton, who said it first?
- Why did she have an Alaskan librarian fired for refusing to ban books in the public library?
- Troopergate. Please discuss.
- And finally, what does a Vice President "do", Sarah?
Isn't Palin and her Klan rednecks. They're too trashy for Oprah. I think JERRY SPRINGER is a more appropriate venue for PALIN and KLUXY KLAN
Do you honestly think that Palin wants to be on Oprah's show? Hah!
All Oprah needs to do is to invite her. Then the burden falls on the McCain-Palin ticket to respond and explain why Palin isn't "available."
Oprah: You should know how to handle this sort of thing!

HEAR, HEAR!
Oprah's decision shows us that she knows Palin could hurt Obama's chances of victory. If Palin was not a threat, she would have her on her show. This will backfire on Oprah and hurt her credibility with at least some of her viewers. Maybe just enough will now vote for McCain/Palin and help lose the election for Obama...
Enough of Palin and the Pagans who have taken over the republican party!
Oprah's response is specious, fallacious, condescending, disingenuous, etc. etc. Something I would expect of (a) a politician (b) a lawyer, or (c) someone I normally wouldn't want to have anything to do with.
Just my humble opinion,
Scott
It is absolutely shocking that Oprah will not have Sarah Palin on her show; when Obama loses in November, Oprah will have no one to blame but herself for losing this opportunity to show that her support for Obama is not blind. I used to like her.
Why don't all you Macain/Palin zealots recognize that you are as out of touch as they are? Why should Oprah bend to your will? Palin does not deserve to be on the Oprah show. As a matter of fact, She will not be appearing on any TV show by herself. McCain will be standing over her shoulder and checking her out! Why not have her appear on Billo's or Limbaugh's? She will feel right at home.
I for one do not suscribe to what The Oprah says or does. While many sheep obey without question every command The Oprah decrees, I have absolutely no use for her. If the Earth were to open up and swallow her whole, I wouldn't miss her.
Everyone needs to take a chill pill. Oprah has every right to choose the guest she invites on her show just as you have the right to choose to watch or not watch her show.
I watched Obama on her show and it was actually then that I made my decision NOT to support him. His positions are nothing more than the same old democratic rhetoric that I've heard for years -- underachievers are to be rewarded and overachievers are to be punished.
I am sorry that Oprah has chosen to support this man. Was it the color of skin that persuaded her or his ideas? You see as far as I can discern, Obama has offered nothing different in the way of policy to offer from all of the past Democratic candidates from Dukakis on.
This has taken on a life of its own - detached from reality. Oprah's stance is actually pretty reasonable. Barack hasn't been on the show for 2 years; Oprah supports him but won't use the show to sway the election. Sound reasoning to steer clear of all members of the Palin, McCain, Biden, Obama families. Of course that will not stop the court of public opinion from delivering votes to McCain/Palin over this issue. Too funny!
So much for the liberals wanting "fairness" and the Fairness Doctrine? Oprah had on Obama, and now it's fair not to have on Palin?
And then there is the Equal Time provision, which requires candidates for the same office to have the same access to the public airwaves, which Oprah does use. I guess technically this is not the same office as Obama was probably seeking the nomination when he was on Oprah. When Reagan ran though, TV stations could show his movies because they would have had to give the opposition the same amount of time for free.
This just shows how afraid lefties like Oprah are of the Truth they claim to be seeking.
When the McCain-Palin ticket wins in November I hope they publicly refuse to appear on Oprah's show no matter how much the Oprah fans cheer and urge Sarah to honor her with her presence.
Oprah and her minions flock together.
Vote Color, Women be Dammed!
My husband caught O's number a long time ago. She showed her true racist attitude when she opened the school for girls in Africa. When asked where were the white girls her comment was I do not have to answer to the white people. Only heard it once the news media buried that one fast. Now she only wants Obama let her spend her millions on him. But she is going to lose viewers who now have her number. Never watched her and never would. She is a racist. Glad its coming out.
I'm surprised that having Obama on her show (which is essentially like donating free airtime for an hour-long campaign ad) is not considered a violation of the McCain-Feingold Act. One hour on Oprah is worth more than millions of dollars in campaign donations from Oprah. Things like this should be considered in federal election laws.
Oprah shouldn't forget that a large portion of her audience is comprised of white women and yes, some are conservatives.
Bottom line is Oprah owns Oprah and she can choose whomever she'd like to be on her show.
From a career standpoint, I think it's a huge mistake, but hey, that's her call.
WHAT I DON'T BELIEVE FOR A SECOND is, "There has been absolutely no discussion about having Sarah Palin on my show."
Come on Oprah, do you honestly believe that we're that gullible?
A strong WOMAN (last time I checked you were a true champion for women) is suddenly and historically in the national spotlight, grabbing headlines worldwide... and the concept had never been discussed until Drudge fabricated a story?
You're faaarrrr too shrewd a businesswomen. Seriously Oprah, don't for a second think we're buying it.
Why not just come out and say that you're supporting Obama and don't want to do anything to hurt his candidacy. At least (if nothing else) you'd salvage some of your credibility.
By the way, wonder why Oprah left Rev. Wright's Trinity United church.... I'd bet my lifes savings that it's because she read the vision statement and discovered that Black Liberation Theology, authored by James Cone WAS and is the vision. ( See the trinity church website) http://www.tucc.org/talking_points.htm
Oprah is way to smart to embrace this racist separatist theology knowing it would kill her career....Oprah, you' made the right decision.
If any of you think I'm overreacting on the Liberation stuff, take a look at the Trinity United Church of Christ site I referenced above and then take a look at the Wilki page about James Cone and his Black Liberation Theology teachings:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_liberation_theology
(An except from the Wiki page)
"James Cone first addressed this theology after Malcolm X’s proclamation in the 1950's against Christianity as "a white man’s religion".[18] Later, Cone indicated that Malcolm X was "not far wrong" in stating:[19]:
"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community ... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love."[20]"
Have a nice day everybody!
