HEAR IT HERE: Jay-Z feat. Tony Williams, "We Make History"
Jay-Z has rolled out another potential song from the sessions for the forthcoming "Blueprint 3" CD through Kanye West's increasingly influential blog, taking a page from 'Ye's unusual marketing manual.
"We Make History," with Tony Williams singing the hook, is yet another sign of Jay-Z's decision to make hip-hop's concerns match those of grown folks. He raps of legacy and marriage and families -- "Victory is mine, tastes so sweet/She's my trophy wife, coming with me/We'll have a baby, who stutters repeatedly/We'll name him history/He'll repeat after me" -- over stately almost Beatlesque beats, presumably produced by West. (Maybe Hova's collabos with Coldplay's Chris Martin and his time at Glastonbury this year have rubbed off on him?)
How will Jay's fans react? His guess -- "Lighter! Lighters!" -- is probably right on target.
