After a nine-week run on "Rock Star: Supernova," Ryan Star delivered his farewell speech on last night's show.
As the episode began, Star appeared well-positioned to rebound out of the bottom three. He had already run through a high-energy rendition of Coldplay's "Clocks" Tuesday night, and his version of The Who's "Baba O'Reilly" on Wednesday looked like a triumph.
"The Ryan standing in front of us not the Ryan that started this competition," Supernova guitarist Gilby Clarke said. "You were great tonight. That was one of the greatest audience receptions we've seen." But Clarke ended on an ominous note, questioning whether Star was the right singer for the band.
As always, drummer Tommy Lee delivered the bad news. He sugared the pill by saying, "Ryan, after nine weeks, dude, you're the only cat who's come the farthest."
Guest judge Dave Navarro told Star: "I've become a fan over the past few weeks."
Star said goodbye to Supernova with a short speech that sounded less like a concession and more like a challenge.
"With me as your singer, I feel like you could have made 20 years of great music," he said, eyeing the band. "But I respect your decision, so good luck. And I'm going to return to being a solo artist. So I'll see you on the record charts, 'cause that's where I'm gonna be hanging out."
