I unfortunately have been reminded of the nineties

By Scott A. Rosenberg

Shuffle down a little bit on the blog here and you'll find an interview with Miles Zuniga of Fastball, who's performing at Bowery Ballroom on Tuesday night.

I jumped on to YouTube to grab a video of the band's infectious single "The Way," and the related videos section was like a cross section of my high school years where, I loathe to admit, I was a slave to the radio.

After the jump, you can experience what I was going through in the mid- to late-'90s with a video retrospective I call "Songs I can Sing in Karaoke Without Looking at the Words That I Don't Want Anyone to Know About."

OK, in all fairness, I actually still like some of these songs, but do people really need to know that I'm very familiar with Verve Pipe's "The Freshman"?

The Way by Fastball I still like this song.

Closing Time by Semisonic This song is so played out it isn't funny, but the band's follow-up single, Chemistry, is a pretty damn good pop rock song.

Sex and Candy by Marcy Playground One of the first interviews I did as a cub reporter in college was with the lead singer of Marcy Playground. He was nice, but this song can stop being played from now on.

Semi-Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind The charm is all gone.

I Can't Get Enough of You, Baby by Smash Mouth We've all got enough of this.

Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger Unbridled awesomeness.

Peaches by The Presidents of the United States of America How this was a hit song, I'll never know. But I'll be lying if I said I wasn't jamming to it just now. Lump is even better, and now it's in my head.

Wonderwall by Oasis Does anyone listen to this band anymore? I don't.

No Rain by Blind Melon Fun hippy song + the bee girl = happy reporter.

Sucked Out by Superdrag Still a great song - so great in fact, that it's been a mainstay of my mixtapes for years.

The Sign by Ace of Base OK, so I saw the sign, it opened up my mind. I have subsequently close it back up.

Popular by Nada Surf This song was way ahead of its time and it's a testament to how good a band Nada Surf is that after this massive commercial success, they went on to become a much loved indie band.

Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve This is one of my all-time favorite songs. I dare you not to like it. I dare you.
